Wolfpackers around the country woke this morning to read their internet news and were hit with a dose of reality that will change all of our moods related to our beleaguered basketball program!!! We learned some important information that will change our view of the last nine years that we obviously have overlooked in the […]
Quote of Note: Gary Williams’ Will
From Duke-Maryland rivalry needs more respect by Jay Bilas: The Duke-Maryland rivalry is so vicious now in large measure because of the incredible success of Gary Williams. He fought tooth and nail to resurrect the Terps program from the ashes, after sanctions, probation and a television ban that would have buried most programs for years […]
Penders has UH flying high
In light of the relationship that NC State’s basketball history has with the University of Houston, I found today’s article in the Houston Chronicle regarding the immediate impact of Tom Penders quite an interesting read. I thought that I would share it. There he goes again: Penders has UH flying By Michael Murphy Copyright 2005 […]
Media Notes Groundhog Day in Raleigh
A couple of weeks ago my new favorite reporter, John Brasier, wrote a fantastic article that made a lot of great points related to NC State Basketball under the leadership of Lee Fowler and Herb Sendek. Among Brasier’s points was a perspective on the inexplicable support that NC State’s administration has thrown behind Sendek through […]
Flashback: Feb 9 & 10, 2001
The following article originally appeared in the February 10, 2001 edition of Raleigh’s News & Observer. I had originally planned to share this this article and some comments on February 9th to observe the ‘anniversary’ of the day that Lee Fowler came clean with the public and proclaimed that wins/losses and on court performance was […]
Sendek vs Big Four
(Updated: 2/11/05 @ 10:00am ET) NC State dropped its fourth game in its last five outings tonight (thank you for exisiting, Clemson) tonight in an 86-75 loss at Wake Forest. The Wolfpack is currently tied with Virginia and Florida State for next to last place in the ACC with a 3-7 record (13-10 overall). * […]
Littlepage Leads by Example For Fowler
For what may be the first time in Lee Fowler’s 4+ years in Raleigh, the man has been publicly quiet. Silent. I mean, silent as a mouse. He hasn’t popped-off in a newspaper interview for weeks. I hope someone has taken the time to check his temperature?
(Good, God. Has he really been here that long? How many SEC jobs can one guy fail to land in an election cycle?! Surely one has to come up with something after all of those swings of the bat? Don’t worry, Lee. Your behind the scenes jockeying for the Ohio State job might pay off yet….oops…did I just say that? Was that supposed to stay quiet?)
As the season has progressed, I have cited Fowler’s conspicuous silence to my friends as a reason for optimism that this dismal basketball record may actually have an opportunity to come to an end this year. (Please let me dream).
* One of my all-time favorites is how Lee gave his cell phone number to all of the newspaper reporters when he first got to State because he wanted to make sure that they always had the truth. LOL!!! As we soon learned, they always had the truth, and Lee always had his name in the paper.
ESPN: State “Biggest Disappointment”
It really shouldn’t be a big surprise to most people that can swallow water without a machine, but Joe Lunardi of ESPN named NC State the “biggest disappointment of the college basketball season.” Additionally, Lunardi named Boston College, next year’s new member of the ACC, as the biggest surprise. * Since Al Skinner of BC […]
Flashback: Beowolf’s Top 10 Excuses
At 9:35am on March 10, 2001, the (in)famous Beowolf posted an article on the original Statefans.com When the article was originally written, WolfpackNation was in the midst of heated debate regarding the future of Herb Sendek’s leadership of the NC State Basketball Program. Sound familiar? I draw your attention to Beo’s article from almost four […]
Quotes of Note: Bloggers on Sendek
= > RedandWhiteFrom State: We pay Herb Sendek to be a leader. Doing nothing is not leading, especially when the situation is dire. If Sendek had nothing to contribute, he should have bought a ticket and watched from the stands like the 18,000 happy Tar Heel fans. It is time for leadership for Wolfpack basketball. […]
