There’s a reason he was the guy they left open. And it WAS a tough play to make, not like he missed a sitter (to use a British footy phrase).

Hopefully he comes back, much to the chagrin of Wake County’s Golden Corral locations…

Today Dook just soaked us on the 3 ball. Tomorrow, Dook shoots 40% for the game and about 35% on the 3’s.

I’m proud of the way the guys gave it a go and I hope that Cat can take it to the bank!!

Anya had an opportunity but just wasn’t prepared, it happens. Do I think that Abu goes NBA…..NO, what a waste of time
if he thinks he’s ready. Potential, maybe…..but thats only an upside if some cards fall into place. Abu needs one more year then maybe he’ll be ready.

Wrestling is an upside we need to focus on ……… !! Go Pack Wrestlers!!

I thought this game showed what we were capable of. What if, what if, what if, what if……

I had to watch it out of the corner of my eye, but the defense looked decent. I didn’t see many shots where we completely lost a guy, both teams were just lights out.

If you had told me we scored 89 points, shoot a higher % from 2, 3, FT, have more rebounds, 14 assists and only 6 turnovers…….I dunno. I probably would have laughed in your face. It’s cruel that we can be that good and still lose. I guess even “Make shots, win games” isn’t 100%.

Cat is a revelation. I was thinking about it the last couple of days, NC State has been blessed with point guards.

I’m going to have a drink and try to get it sorted out in my mind.

Edit: Also, I truly dislike that turd Grayson Allen, and not just because he’s good, which he undoubtably is.

Paki – I agree with your first sentence 100%. (And why it’s a little painful.) It sounds like I missed a classic – but I would rather watch an ugly win than a pretty loss.

I’m just glad my last impression of the team was the effort we gave in the loss today, rather than what we gave in the win yesterday.

    I know dat’s right.

Our first half defense was pretty sad. Much better in the second, even though we were tired. Everybody passed the gut check, yeah even the seldom used Captain Kirk (who kept his chin up all season).

Packzingo – you have to remember how the NBA works…the more they see of a college kid the less they like him. Most NBA GM’s will take a flyer on some 7 footer from Senegal before they will draft an upper class man from a major university.

I don’t like it and I don’t like watching a league, but if you believe folks it’s more popular than ever.

Yeah 2034 sounds like an an accurate guess for how long Gott keeps his job and never wins a title.

Abu is definitely coming back. But he’s going to need help.

Again Anya should be more of offensive threat with his size inside, to make us a team to reckon with. Did hear that this was the second highest scoring game in ACC tourney history, with us also in the first vs. Maryland, when we won the championship. Next year should be interesting, especially if Cat gives us another year.

We also look to have a good baseball season, along with the wrestling championship. As for basketball, we still have a women’s team that is having a successful season, and headed to the NCAA tourney.

Women’s team is something. At least they are winning.

    fwiw… not in any order….

I’m glad this season is over…

None of our kids quit playing hard in the face of adversity and, not that matters, I’m damn proud of this team…

GOTT & Company coached their a%%es off all season…

If the rest of ’em had worked as hard as GOTT and Anthony, it might have been a different story…

Most of our kids just ain’t GOTT IT yet, in spite of what they’ve been told or read and yes, some of ’em won’t ever get IT…

So close yet so far… 15-20 bad plays that shoulda, coulda been good plays was the difference…

Exegesis and Pontification regarding the past or the future is a total waste of good time for all concerned… there’s nothing much to analyze and this season is in no good ways a prediction of the future… go plant your garden… it’s much better therapy, if that’s what you need…

So maybe we rest and relax, watch some baseball, and then some football and then we will all be ready for the maple again….

We entered the season with an 8 man rotation with 2 guards, 3 wings, and 3 bigs. We expected that we would have 3 strong offensive players — Cat, Abu, Henderson. Rowan was a freshman, and so a bit of a wild card. The others were for the most part expected to play specific roles.

Then we lost Henderson 7 minutes into the season. That took away 1 of the 2 guards and 1 of the 3 players expected to be strong offensively. Huge blow that is probably underrated in terms of its impact on our season.

Then Cat broke out even better than expected, which was great… but Abu didn’t really break out as expected… not so great. Leaving the team with one strong offensive player. As great as he was, there just wasn’t enough help on offense.

Yes, I know it is Gott’s fault he wasn’t better prepared. That isn’t the point. The point is, the team did its best given the roster they had to work with. IMO next season is set to be a strong rebound season, with 3 guards coming in and the wealth of experience gained by the Martins and Rowan, plus hopefully a healthier Freeman. I’m sure some people will respond to forecast transfers, but I will view the glass half full and not half empty until and unless there are negative developments.

Back to this season, the effort was consistently good, which made watching tolerable despite the poor record. And Cat was a joy to watch. For those of you who chose to stop watching, IMO you missed a lot.

While I’m sure I didn’t watch as many minutes of NC Basketball as Cat Barber played (I’d like to see the statistic for him, minutes played vs. minutes not played), my thoughts are as follows:

    1. Watching Cat Barber was amazing. I was in school at the beginning of Chris Corchiani’s playing time, and I completely missed everything that happened before 1985, but in my mind, Cat is the best PG we’ve ever had.
    2. The upside for Mav Rowan is very high. I think before he’s done, Scott Wood will have faded in our collective memories
    3. The year was certainly disappointing, but at least the team listened to Jimmy V.: they never gave up. Too bad we couldn’t say the same for the fans.

Enjoy the offseason guys, but remember, in 8 months we start this road again…

Tau and mak – do you think this is the first time this has happened to Gott? Three of the last 4 years we were on the bubble…this year the bubble popped.

I don’t understand the criticism of players when you have a coach with a 16 year track record, who basically had shown this type of season is possible.

Anya is limited offensively – great hands – think Duke’s Okafor last year, Chucky Brown – are a gift. His gift is his wingspan. To me, he seems like the typical college kid who hasn’t found himself yet and doesn’t understand the intense kind of effort it takes someone with a limited skillset to separate himself from the pack….and guess what – he is not the only kid on this team that falls into that category.

Abu doubled his scoring average and averaged 4 more rebounds a game than last year. He improved in every statistical category – and that was with a rough patch in the season.

This year we payed the price for having 3 big men and 2 guards. It is not fair to the kids who did come here to blame the shortcoming of the season on their lack of development. We had the season we had this year because the person whose job it is to build a complete roster failed to do so…and when the injuries happened to us (that contrary to what you may think aren’t that unusual) we were left with a skeleton’s crew with a very limited skillset.

The good news is that we appear to have more guards next year. The bad news is that we don’t have any new big men yet and let’s just say that from where I am standing I think there’s a durn good chance we are in this same situation in 2 years.

We have actually been very fortunate during Gott’s tenure to not have many injuries. I think some of that is a testament to good strength and conditioning and some is just good fortune. But they are going to happen and we need to be prepared for it.

Is there any word on how Henderson is actually doing? Seems like an odd injury that kept him out the entire season? Also will be interesting to see how Freeman does this off season. Kid looked really hurt the last month. Another surgery in order?
