Tourney time! NC State vs. Pitt Game Thread!

One score and 8 years ago, Jimmy V and Vinny D led their NC State team to a surprise championship in the 1987 ACC tournament. In three memorable games, the sixth-seeded Wolfpack would defeat each of their Big 4 rivals in succession: an overtime win over 3-seed Duke, a double-overtime win over 7-seed Wake Forest, and a 1-point win over the top seeded Cheats. Classic ‘Cardiac Pack’ March magic. The Wolfpack have been unable to stand alone on the ACC mountaintop since. There have been some fun runs since, but no titles. Twenty-eight years.

The 2015 Wolfpack stand at least a reasonable chance to end that drought and deliver something long sought after and truly cherishable to the University and fanbase: some meaningful postseason hardware. If this season’s squad is going to conjure some ‘Classic ‘Pack March magic’ they start tonight against Pitt.

If you can’t be arsed to get over to the forums, feel free to use this thread to talk about the day session at the ACC tournament. Lots of good discussion going on in other threads, too.

A loss would have caused mild discomfort, but there was no way State wasn’t making it. Now at least we don’t have to hear that tripe BS the rest of the weekend.

    Wow, they are/were seriously uninformed. You don’t go from a projected 9 to bubble in one loss to a good team.

    I think it was BJD who wanted the Pitt matchup for that reason.

    Absolutely, the idea of playing FSU (their mudder style of play and their 125ish RPI) scared the piss out of me. That certainly made me fear the prospect of the play-in round, at least as a possibility.

    Pitt was a very, very safe matchup.

    No “uh huh” or “sure” or “no problem.” It’s a sign I’m getting old, but “you’re welcome” is always the right thing to say.

    That moved my estimation of Cat’s manners up quite a bit.

    Anthony Barber (NCST): career-high 34 points, first player to go 12-12 from the FT line in an ACC Tournament game since UVA’s Sean Singletary in 2006.

    This was a solid performance. Wining one without BSW making anything is a nice way to start. He did match Freeman with six rebounds.

    Great point. We scored 80+ without Turner hitting a 3 or doing much of anything offensively

    Man, Turner stunk it up that game. When he is off, I mean he is off. Seems like ever since Cat 2.0 started, Turner has been a no show a majority of the time. Good win, very proud of Cat. Once again, just imagine where we would be standing if Barber started the year like this. On to tomorrow, don’t have a good feeling about it. Its damn hard to beat Duke twice.

    Man, Turner stunk it up that game.

    Very interesting. The record would show me as one of RT’s biggest critics. But tonight I found myself thinking of him as a clear Senior leader… Regardless of his scoring.
