It’s a Red Out, Not a Black Out on Thursday

There was a misinformed tweet going around last night that State would be wearing all black uniforms on Thursday night for our national TV game vs Clemson but those rumors were 100% false.  The official Twitter handle @PackFootball quickly put an end to those rumors by tweeting out a status and picture.

We will be rockin’ the red Thursday. Will you?

Which got a response from New Orleans Saints TE, and brother of Asa Watson (pictured), Benjamin Watson.

RT @BenjaminSWatson: Lil bro looking swole! Lets go Asa!

So in summary, WEAR RED on Thursday night, dress your kids in all RED and Tell your friends to wear RED.

With that said, I wanted to add my 2 cents on the whole black uniform issue.  It’s a topic that for some reason really works up the State fan base and earlier in the year during one of the Wolfpack Caravans Coach Doeren was asked about black uni’s and said:

“Our fans want to see red and white,” Doeren said. “They don’t want to see black jerseys and matted helmets. They want to see red and white. Our fans are very traditional and very proud of the school colors.”

No don’t get me wrong, I love red and I think the ‘Red Out’ will be great. Half my clothes are red, my car is red, my wife has red hair (not really) and my dog is red (that would be cool though) but if the players and coaches want to wear black uniforms for a game or 2 who really cares? I know it is the older generation that makes a big fuss about non-traditional uniforms but I don’t understand why.  If the coaches and players wanted to wear neon-pink uniforms because they played better or because the recruits like it I am all for it.  As a good friend of mine once said, “If you look good, you feel good, you play good.”

So let’s have it, what’s your opinion on the black uniforms?

How ’bout turtle necks and cardigans?

  2. PackerInRussia 09/19/2013 at 3:01 AM #

Someone mentioned black and strutting wolf earlier. I don’t remember if the wolf was supposed to go on the helmet, but what if they wore all black unis with a large strutting wolf on the front and the red helmets with block “s”? That could be kind of cool.
Here’s my fear of being too cool: You could do it up real big and the players are feeling great and everyone’s talking about how interesting/weird/cool the uniforms are. And if you win, you still look cool in the end. If you get beat (especially bad), you just look silly in the end. Sort of an “emporer’s got no clothes on” moment.

A little over 12 hours. It’s going to be a long wait. Go Pack!!!!

Okay, okay, okay. This is a really funny blog to me. Personally to me black and white are for cookies, keyboards and _________________.(you fill in the blank)
I do like black and gold though admitting I am a Steeler fan. I always wear red to the games with the NC State logo in some fashion. Wearing black might seem sexy to some (especially those pimpin matted black helmets) and perhaps it is, however I watch football and pull for the team and kids. So matters not to me, but deep down I love the RED…okay okay okay!!!

Black out, red out…either way it’ll be a blowout.

  7. Tuffy2 09/19/2013 at 9:22 AM #

IT MIGHT BE A BLOWOUT AS LONG AS IT AIN’T NO SHUT OUT!!!

  8. Wolfgarden 09/19/2013 at 9:22 AM #

Spike…while I would tend to agree with you…the line is only 14…with our team this would not be a blowout in my humble opinion…if it holds true. If our front four, and they are good, can get to Boyd and disrupt him it will certainly help our not ready for prime time linebackers or our lackluster secondary. Now everyone do not go crazy on me. I readily recognize we are young in many areas and my comments were not meant in a disparaging way…we can have our moments and perhaps tonight will be one of them. We have beat a ranked Clemson team at home before and it was with some seasoned players I know…but we do seem to get up for them. With the moon full lets all howl together as we wear red…GO PACK!!!

  9. Tuffy2 09/19/2013 at 9:28 AM #

Yes Wolfgarden we have beaten a 3rd ranked Clemson team before but we had a QB that had at least threw for a td before that game. Even with our good defensive line it will not be a 10-7 game. You are going to have to be able to score points this year against Clemson to beat them who ever plays them.

Tuffy2: Well said. I believe they have the potential to hang sixty on us. I know this will upset some that I stated this…but as we have always been told the truth hurts at times…again well said Tuffy2. One question and not that it matters didn’t Thomas throw for a TD in the opener?

It is going to be a long night.

Black uniforms are good for one thing and one thing only – page hits.

  13. Tuffy2 09/19/2013 at 10:40 AM #

Wolfgarden that was our 2nd string QB Bryant Shirreffs who I like a whole lot.
If Pete Thomas can make the quicker decision while in the pocket he will be successful this year. I just think he is having a hard time reading the coverage or maybe the WR’s are not helping him at times by not running the correct routes.
Against a team like clemson or an fsu he better be counting the seconds in his head to get that pass off no matter what or we will be playing a running qb in Shirreffs and we will be one dimensional.

Remember we are young and this is a new offense.

  14. tjfoose1 09/19/2013 at 12:29 PM #

Bryant Shirreffs didn’t attempt a pass in the opener, so that would kinda make it difficult for him to have thrown a TD.

  15. tjfoose1 09/19/2013 at 12:32 PM #

We need two things to happen for a chance of winning… Run the ball and run the clock + Clemson pulling a Clemson.

Even with both, it’s still only a chance.

Regardless of the outcome, it will be Clemson who defeats the loser.

  16. MISTA WOLF 09/19/2013 at 12:46 PM #

Personally I think we need to stretch the field out on offense ( run 4 and 5 wide) and zone run them to death with our backs. Control the clock like stated above and not allow their offense to get in rythym. These teams that run the hurry up must be treated like a pitcher in baseball. You can’t let them dictate the flow of the game. We need to burn some clock, keep our D fresh and blitz at least one backer on each play from different areas. We’ve got to get Boyd into happy feet mode. We allow him to set back and sling it its going to be a rout. Hope the boys did extra conditioning this last week and a half.

  17. Wolfgarden 09/19/2013 at 1:08 PM #

Ball control will indeed be important…we need to keep Boyd and company off the field as log as we can. I thought sure Thomas threw one, a TD against LT…oh well. I take all will have a yabo dabo do time tonight either way tjfoose1.

  18. Wolfgarden 09/19/2013 at 1:14 PM #

Thomas has no TD’s. Shirreff has one TD against Richmond….However Thomas’s QB ratings are looking pretty good…in spite of the interceptions…I hope he throws none tonight.

  19. Tuffy2 09/19/2013 at 4:27 PM #

I meant to say the only touchdown pass so far this year was by Bryant Shirreffs tjfoose1. Sorry I misunderstood or read you wrong their Wolfgarden.

I hope we just play smart and play hard . Continue to improve each week and we will start to see this program become something very special under this staff.

Tuffy – We’ll let you slide, this time.

“Oregon made a name for itself with their funky uniforms because it helped recruiting”

I disagree. It was Nike and illegal recruiting that helped Oregon with recruiting. Oregon got a slap on the wrist and pass just like UNC-CH
