Hopefully some of the later games will be more interesting than this (so far) ugly Shaka/Beilein brickfest. We can have snarky fun in the comments regardless.

    I do wonder how Amile would have changed the dynamic. Still amazes me how he essentially doesn’t play at all.

    Methinks Purvis has defensive potential, he just needs to regain confidence offensively. I don’t follow HS enough to know what kind of defender Cat Barber might be. Turner is supposed to be very solid on D.

    I am more worried about scoring next year. Buckets might be asked to carry too much of the load. We really need WBS to be a three point threat, especially from the dual PG look.

    VCU has played 11 guys so far (it may be normal for them?).

    Michigan has only played 8 guys.

    UM 68 VCU 41

    Those Michigan boys are “talented”!

    VCU also had a very favorable draw – Akron didn’t have their best player (also the starting PG) available. Certainly got exposed hard today. Trey Burke is very good.

    You know BJD, I’ve been thinking Burke is what I’d like to see from Zo but Burke has the luxury of Hardaway for help in scoring. Burke can flat-out play the point.

    The Marlins are just sad. A monster in Giancarlo, a dazzling defensive SS…and a whole lot of nothing otherwise. Loria is the most public con man in the world.

    Dude for Memphis just got away with a walk that would make Hansbrough proud. Seriously – last possession of the half – the guy who threw the pass to the shooter – rewind & slow-mo it – he took 8 steps. He moved from 4 feet inside the 3-point line, all the way out to the 3-point line, without taking a dribble. The non-call of walks is simply embarrassing at this point.

    Game two will start sometime b/w 4:30 and 5:00 as it looks now.

    It’s hard to believe how many free throws I have seen come up short this weekend. Memphis would be right in this game if they weren’t clanking them off the rim, and we probably would have won ours.

    That tells me that a solid FT shooting team would have a tremendous competitive advantage. It’s not that freaking hard to master them, and it’s something that a player can practice on their own time. I hope our coaching staff has taken note of that weakness.

    As for VCU, it’s time for Shaka Smart to start getting the annual rush of job offers…
