Round of 32 Open Thread

Hopefully some of the later games will be more interesting than this (so far) ugly Shaka/Beilein brickfest. We can have snarky fun in the comments regardless.

UVA has nothing on Meechigan in the illegal screen department.

Funny thing is that this game is a matchup of former almost-NCSU state coaches.

    What a carousel.

    McGary to Michigan, sorry Duke
    Jefferson to Duke, sorry State
    Painter to ODU, sorry State

    Damn you, McGary.

I do wonder how Amile would have changed the dynamic. Still amazes me how he essentially doesn’t play at all.

“You can’t run if you don’t get stops” -}ohn Beilien

I hope our coaches and returning players were listening

Methinks Purvis has defensive potential, he just needs to regain confidence offensively. I don’t follow HS enough to know what kind of defender Cat Barber might be. Turner is supposed to be very solid on D.

I am more worried about scoring next year. Buckets might be asked to carry too much of the load. We really need WBS to be a three point threat, especially from the dual PG look.

VCU has played 11 guys so far (it may be normal for them?).

Michigan has only played 8 guys.

    UM 68 VCU 41

    Those Michigan boys are “talented”!

  8. TOBtime 03/23/2013 at 2:07 PM #

So the next big thing isn’t going to make it to the next round? Pity. That isn’t very smart!

  9. BJD95 03/23/2013 at 2:08 PM #

I’m watching the Cardinals’ spring training game. That’s how bored I am!

  10. BJD95 03/23/2013 at 2:10 PM #

VCU also had a very favorable draw – Akron didn’t have their best player (also the starting PG) available. Certainly got exposed hard today. Trey Burke is very good.

  11. TOBtime 03/23/2013 at 2:13 PM #

You know BJD, I’ve been thinking Burke is what I’d like to see from Zo but Burke has the luxury of Hardaway for help in scoring. Burke can flat-out play the point.

    Beilien just schooled Shaka.

  13. Wufpacker 03/23/2013 at 2:41 PM #

Funny BJD, I’m bouncing between cbs and mlb myself (eff the marlins btw) while keeping up with NCS/UVa via twitter…all from the comfy confines of my couch lol. Ain’t technology great? Cards tie it as I’m clicking btw.

  14. BJD95 03/23/2013 at 2:55 PM #

How are the Pack Nine doing? I am too lazy to sign up for twitter.

The Marlins are just sad. A monster in Giancarlo, a dazzling defensive SS…and a whole lot of nothing otherwise. Loria is the most public con man in the world.

  15. BamaPack 03/23/2013 at 3:04 PM #

Beilein has done pretty well for himself it seems.

  16. Wufpacker 03/23/2013 at 3:05 PM #

Tied 2-2 with 2 away bottom 6, man on 1st for UVa…Woeck relieving Rodon now

  17. Wufpacker 03/23/2013 at 3:08 PM #

Woeck gets 1st batter he faces..2-2 end of 6

  18. Wufpacker 03/23/2013 at 3:19 PM #

    Sparty getting sloppy.

  19. MP 03/23/2013 at 3:21 PM #

Just saw the headline that this is Michigan’s 1st sweet sixteen since 1994…! That is remarkable, I had lost track of how far they had fallen.

  20. BJD95 03/23/2013 at 3:36 PM #

Finally getting a close game, at least. Not pretty, but close.

  21. wolfonthehill 03/23/2013 at 3:38 PM #

Dude for Memphis just got away with a walk that would make Hansbrough proud. Seriously – last possession of the half – the guy who threw the pass to the shooter – rewind & slow-mo it – he took 8 steps. He moved from 4 feet inside the 3-point line, all the way out to the 3-point line, without taking a dribble. The non-call of walks is simply embarrassing at this point.

  22. Wufpacker 03/23/2013 at 4:09 PM #

UVa explodes in the 8th, now lead 8-2…Pack has 3 outs to make up 6 runs.

Game two will start sometime b/w 4:30 and 5:00 as it looks now.

  23. Alpha Wolf 03/23/2013 at 4:44 PM #

It’s hard to believe how many free throws I have seen come up short this weekend. Memphis would be right in this game if they weren’t clanking them off the rim, and we probably would have won ours.

That tells me that a solid FT shooting team would have a tremendous competitive advantage. It’s not that freaking hard to master them, and it’s something that a player can practice on their own time. I hope our coaching staff has taken note of that weakness.

  24. BJD95 03/23/2013 at 4:44 PM #

Tis a lost Wolfpack weekend. Pity.

Looking forward to having multiple viewing options in the night games.

As for VCU, it’s time for Shaka Smart to start getting the annual rush of job offers…
