“The Carolina Way” = “an academic scandal that could be the worst the NCAA has ever seen”

Matt Hayes of The Sporting News has always been one of my favorite national writers and I have historically ascribed more value to his views and commentary than to the average sports writer. Well, today, Hayes just catapulted himself into the stratosphere of the “Mount Rushmore” of the national media.

In this MUST SEE 3 minute video, Hayes rips UNC-CHeat and the NCAA from all angles while he publicly recognizes the questions that SFN has been making for years regarding the true commitment and thoroughness of the NCAA’s obviously flawed “investigation” at UNC. We wanted to memorialize some of the quotes from the video. We’ll have more commentary later —————————

“I can tell you someone who is NOT getting to the bottom of it all — that is the NCAA”.

“It took [the NCAA] two years to NOT get to this point already.”

“The University and the athletics department are combining to have NO-SHOW classes to get credit …”

“The goes from football to basketball…this could be the harshest penalty that any University has ever seen, academically”

“It seems that the academic side and the athletics side…everyone is working together. Could this be ‘worst case scenario’?”

“We’ve learned after two years that the NCAA is not that good at investigating”

Isn’t Doyel one of the sport’s writers who wrote Wolfpack fans were unreasonable to expect to compete with UNC? That we should just accept our place in the pecking order and stop trying to to build a competitive program. Maybe Doyel owes State fans an apology. Because if you have to cheat to win, what have you won?

UNC played winning basketball but sacrificed academic integrity in order to do so. If even half of what has been discovered is true, every coach, administrator, professor and department head should be dismissed; entire seasons vacated and programs shut down for a period of time. Furthermore any coach guilty of involvement or compliciant in the eligibility scheme perpetrated by the university should be banned for a period of time.

If the NCAA is unwilling to act, every school ever penalized by the NCAA should join in a class action lawsuit in order to force equal treatment of all member institutions by the NCAA. If not, then the NCAA should cease to exist and college athletics should be governed by a body that does not turn a blind eye when one of its cash cow members cheats to win.

UNC has disgraced the university, the ACC, the state of NC and all of the graduates who actually earned a degree at UNC by attending real classes, doing real work and having their academic performance evaluated by professors who actually taught classes and required attendance. Right now a UNC diploma is greatly diminished in value by the scandal. The banners that hang in the Dean Dome are about a credible as Rosie Ruiz’s Boston Marathon win or all the Olympic medals won by the East Germans in the 70’s and 80’s.

How ridiculous is it a few select members of the media are now asking if NC State fans hatred has gone too far? Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, Batman? How is fact finding by an internet fan page when the NCAA had full access and “didn’t” find anything hatred? Il Marvin Austin Veritas!

This has probably been said before, but I don’t care what the NCAA has to say anymore. this should fall under the jurisdiction of UNC, The UNC school system, BOG, Swofford, et al. They should have the cajones to put the hammer down just like they’ve done to every other ACC school whose issues paled in comparison.

Just discovered/watchd last night on Netflix the “30 for 30” piece on SMU (Pony Excess) – the parallels to UNC and the irrogance, continued ignoring of rules and corruption are similar.

Side note, moved to Dallas in 1995 so I didn’t ever really no the whole story – very interesting.
