Yea, Tenneesse is just awesome????? Take the big plays away, and our turnovers, and we are on the winning side. Think all the praise heaped on Glennon and Amerson, went to their head. Guess that is over with.

Never said they were awesome. But don’t you see the problem with this logic…

“Take the big plays away, and our turnovers, and we are on the winning side.”

So, if they hadn’t found and exploited our weaknesses on D, and if they hadn’t forced Glennon into five turnovers, we would have been able to beat them? Good to know. And because it usually only took them a few plays to go from one end of the field to the other, that’s an indication that they’re a bad team? Cool…I guess they do suck after all.

And I disagree with your statement anyway. I don’t think we would have stopped them even without their big plays. It would have just taken them a little longer to put us away. You’re assuming that if they hadn’t hit those big plays that they would have stalled out on those drives, as if those were the only two options available. I seem to recall them putting the nail in our proverbial coffin with a 14 play drive that took 6:30 off the clock, and then icing us with a 7 play, 3:20 drive for a FG when they weren’t even trying hard anymore.

I’ll join in the minority with Wufpacker I suppose. I thought we looked like a JV team playing against the varsity. Based on the “eye test” I would say they should beat us 9/10 times.

We were straight out coached. We didn’t have the right players on the field at times and we certainly didn’t call (or execute) the right plays. They beat us good in every facet of the game.

I’m flat out embarrassed for us and the ACC as a whole. It just became a track meet that we obviously couldn’t win.

Agreed. ‘Embarrassed’ pretty much sums it up.

Sitting at the game thinking that it was only two games ago that this defense gave up 42 to Maryland (worst in the ACC) in 3 quarters. So why would we think we would shut down a future NFL QB like Tyler Bray? Big plays by UT and poor execution early by State killed us today. Our offense looked fine in first half but just did not execute. There were several missed passes. UT and their staff must have made the necessary adjustments in 2nd half because Glennon looked lost. Either our receivers are not getting open….or Glennon cannot find them quick enough.
Oh…and I kept saying Amerson was getting torched. Friend of mine said he was not getting support from safety? Help me out here…can he not cover anyone one on one?

Guess we will have to agree to disagree on this one. We had two scoring drives that came away with nothing, potentially two touchdowns, which would make 35, not to say that our defense did us any favors, and Glennon certainly sucked, spotting them points, and deserves to be the Tennessee MVP. We could have beaten them. Maybe someday we will have coaches that know how to prepare a team for a big game. Failing grade on this one. But considering all our turnovers, we did well to only lose by two scores. I trust Clemson will win today, and make the ACC proud, against the SEC.

Not Ready, not even close to being ready to play a football game. Very poor prep.

Caught the Inside All Access before the game & it was telling: while the facilities are awesome there was a surprising lack of urgency among the coaches especially. While I was jacked-up for the nat’l exposure, a little voice in the back went “uh oh”… The practice sequences were lackadaisical & I’m thinking 1) they know they’re being filmed, right? 2) they’re getting ready for Tennessee? Then I look across the field during the game & you just know their coach lights a fire under their @$s during practice.

Trying not to be too negative. Thinking: a couple years ago Va Tech started 0-2 (losses to Boises and – unbelievably – James Madison) but they regrouped to win the ACC. Stay positive. Stay positve.

“Maybe someday we will have coaches that know how to prepare a team for a big game.”

100%agree, but you also can never make a sports argument with words like “potentially” “would” “could” and “should” after loosing. Kinda like looking at a test that you did poorly on and looking at stupid questions you got wrong that you new the answer too…

Should have gotten it right and should have done better, but also should have studied more and paid more attention….can’t blame anyone else or make excuses for that….

Tennessee DID we DID NOT. kinda goes back to the coaching thing…..

Before I give up on this team I’ll wait and see how they react and how well (or bad) they do in the next two or three weeks. It is really beyond belief, however, that year after year this coaching staff is unable to get a team up and prepared to play to start the season. Maybe this team bought into all the pre-season hype and brought a lazy attitude into the game but another year like before, struggling to just have a winning record and make a mediocre bowl and it will be time for Yow to find another coaching staff.

To all who are being critical of our team, please remember, this was a game against an SEC opponent. Traditionaly, the SEC recruits the BEST athletes in nation and it should not be a surprise to anyone that TN was faster, bigger, stronger than our team was prepared for. On the bright side, this first game may help to prepare our team for future competition – only time will tell.

it was only two games ago that we gave up 42 to Maryland in 3 quarters. How much progress did you expect against the caliber of QB we faced last night? I think Archer needs to be on notice.

  15. Big T 09/01/2012 at 9:29 AM #

For all the near misses we bring up on here UT can counter that they missed an extra pt and fumbled on the one before halftime. Could have been 43-21.
I am feeling good about our chances vs. S. Alabama and The Citadel though.

    embarassing.

The only positive spin I can put on this one right now is that it’s now September and basketball season starts the month after next.

The recruiting (or lack of) is my biggest football concern. The Wolfpack’s football program is a B level team with a B minus staff. And given the way recruiting is going lately, the B could easily change to a C. And as long as we keep on scheduling cupcakes at home, we aren’t likely to make many As out of beating up South Alabama and Central Michigan 3 times each.

Upgrade the schedule. And if our coaches’ plateau continues to be 3rd place in the division and a win over a mediocre UNC program every year, then maybe we need to upgrade them as well. I like playing on national tv, but last night’s performance won’t change many minds as to the level of this football program right now.

Big T: Those are valid points. We’ve lost more and gained some since that game versus Maryland. It’s ridiculous that our fans expect us to dominate an SEC opponent. Or even win. We’re a slow starting team that is average in the ACC. Period.
