NC State signs deal with Adidas

GoPack.com reports NC State has signed a deal with Adidas.

I am not sure what to think about this. I have heard that Nike will never sign NCSU because of the whole Jimmy V travesty so that might not even be an option but Adidas has always seemed like the “runner up” in the shoe wars. However, the list of schools signing with Adidas is pretty impressive. Will this have any effect on recruiting?

No matter what it should bring in some extra funds and that is extremely important.

I may as well endorse Adidas I’m so loyal. Until DrMartens starts making b-ball shoes and attire, I will always be an Adidas wearer on the court….except when I pull on my Ponys, and I do love my Ponys.

I ran track in HS and at STATE, coached travel soccer for years and have spent lots of $$ on footware. I have always considered Nike stuff like I have TarHole apparel … any fool can pick that crap up at Walmart.

I couldn’t care less what brand of shoes our teams are wearing next season, as long as they run over the opposition.

It is common knowledge in the world of college athletics that unless Hell freezes over or Phil Knight dies which ever comes first is when NC State will be able to sign an All School deal. Phil was good friends with Jimmy V and was infuriated in the way the School treated him.

Yes Women’s Basketball is Nike, they where allowed to stay with Nike following Jimmy V departure, becasue Phil liked Yow but, guess what they PAID for the Majority of there stuff, they got uniforms free and a few other things, it wasn’t that big of a contract for the team/university.

When Amato was hired he flew out to Oregon and had to beg Phil for some kind of Deal, which Phil agreed too…during Phil Rivers junior year a school deal was written signed and crossed Phil Knights desk for final approval….that contract was shredded and the guy who wrote it fired….fast forward to a National TV game and Chuck wearing Oakley’s, Nike immediately sent Nike Sunglasses and told him to stop wearing Oakley,

Chuck said NO, Nike said Yes, this went back and forth, also note at the time NC State was at the end of the contract and renegotiating. Chuck didn’t like being told what he could and couldn’t wear so in the Bowl Game that year the bowl patches where purposely put over the nike swoosh, needless to say the next season we where Adidas.

He tried the same thing by wearing UA hat on the sideline with Adidas, Adidas called this time the Administration afraid to burn down another bridge put a stop to it, and both Football and Men’s Basketball where no longer allowed to wear or have UA at any time.

That with the fact we have not won in how many decades is why Nike only wanted to sponsor one sport Men’s Basketball and refused to even talk about an all school deal.

If all of that is true, it just shows how inept our leadership has been. I truly believe it is a new day. We are under great leadership.

I was waiting for a “Knightdale schools suck” comment…and there it was…smh…

while Knightdale schools aren’t the greatest in the county…they are on the come up…

Well, Adidas footwear does suck, in my opinion. However, the high-end apparel is pretty good, though I am not really crazy about the ‘soccer-ish’ look to some of it. Regardless, I have no doubt Dr. Yow has made the decision that is best for State athletics as a whole. Adidas has stepped their game up in past couple years with the Tech-Fit line, etc.

Adidas and State. Very parallel. Back in the 70’s Adidas was THE soccor shoe. You could buy Adidas Speed in size 1 and up. All leather shoes. Big argument at my house. My boy won’t wearing WalMart plastic shoes to play in. Same thing with shirts and shorts. So what they cost more and we had to drive 30 miles to get them.

Why parallel? State was kicking Tarhole ass in those days as well as Adidas was kicking Nike ass. What goes around, comes around. Ain’t it great to be a Pack fan?

“From what I understand Addidas will supply us with all the gear that we had to buy in the past and that is the $900k savings.”

    Thanks Rick. That makes sense.

Nike promised never to deal with NCSU admin because of what they did to V. I promised never to give the N&O a nickel till they issued a front page apology. Both promises have been kept !

This grudge Phil Knight has is pretty interesting. He appears to have blasted Penn State a Joe Pa’s Memorial. I wonder if Penn State is going to get the same treatment.

    since this is two-part thread….
    1. Nike with State happens after the ACC accepts Gamecocks.
    2. WF vs KD boils down to:
    a. WF has MUCHO better public schools.
    b. KD has lower overall real estate costs.
    c. KD is a better commute in terms of time.
    d. WF has lots of stores closer to home.
    e. WF gets most of the bad weather that passes through.
    f. KD and Lizard Lick Towing and Recovery are neighbors.

Where does the common knowledge come from?

Anyone see the Nike shoe designers comment after the Rose injury? About how LBJ with Nike is getting stronger and Rise with Adidas is out for the season…….
