ACC’s so called ‘statement’ another slap in the face to NC State (10:10pm)

Why did they f***ing bother? In this statement the conference weasels its way into even more disdain from fans focusing on Karl Hess’ authority to remove Chris Corchiani and Tom Gugliotta, while completely ignoring his controversial judgement to do so.

—————————————-

Feb. 18, 2012

Statement from ACC Supervisor of Officials John Clougherty on the ejection that took place at today’s Florida State at NC State men’s basketball game:

“Under Rule 10, when circumstances warrant, an official has the authority to request home game management to eject fans when the behavior, in the officials’ judgement, is extreme or excessive. It’s unfortunate in this instance that ACC protocol of communicating directly with the home game management was not followed, and instead, a building security officer was solicited. We will re-communicate this policy with all officials to ensure proper protocol is followed.”

—————————————-

Sadly, one of the best explanations of the statement came from the twitter account of a UNC fan:

So, instead of “Hess was wrong to throw them out,” the ACC’s position is “Hess threw them out wrong”?

—————————————-

Another Tar heel homer also agreed when WRAL’s @ErinESummers used the following description of the statement:

ACC stands behind Hess and does not question/comment on his judgment to eject Corch, Gugs but instead comments on how it was done improperly

She also seems to agree with all of WolfpackNation’s characteristic of this farse –

that’s the official release and it is absolutely lame

—————————————-

So…after the ACC has had a chance to comment on the issue, the primary question still remains — EXACTLY WHY did Karl Hess have Corchiani and Gugliotta removed today? Corch & Googs have taken the stance to go on the record to publicly state that no curse words were used or threatening statements. This account of the situation seems to have been corroborated by multiple eye-witness accounts of people on press row and around the incident.

So, WHY is the ACC and Karl Hess not expected to be held accountable to explain the specifics of the situation that Hess CHOSE to initiate?

—————————————-

I will ask the same question that was being asked on the blog on Thursday night — why do NC State fans, leaders and administrators CONTINUE to participate in an affiliation that is so dis-respectful and slanted against us? Why do we keep fooling ourselves into believing that we are a part of anything less rigged than professional wrestling at this point?

What dogbreath said. The statement is just out. I imagine that right now Yow is confering with Woodson and coordinating the next move. When something like this happens you don’t make rash moves that make you look the ass, because that just gives the offending party a way to deflect attention. Instead proceed deliberately and keep the pressure on.

It has nothing to do with the NCAA. This is about the disrespect and utter contempt the ACC has for it’s non-blue member institutions – especially NC State.

We are a major state university with a large alumni, donor, and TV viewer base. Who thinks that’s worth being treated better than used toilet paper? When can you announce the press conference and put us on your conference’s master schedule?

  3. vtpackfan 02/18/2012 at 10:57 PM #

BJD, remember that we went in with Sleezy Swoff’s up’n the anti to 20 million to walk. We indentured our servitude right there and then, for better or for worse.

For one thing, IMO State should advise the police/public safety members who work games at the RBC not to take direction directly from game officials from here forward. That is one way to ensure this will not happen again without the ref having to go to RBC officials first.

  5. Wulfpack 02/18/2012 at 11:00 PM #

Well, I’ve seen enough to know they aren’t listening. So yea, do your best to put forth a sound argument to stand up for the university. Good luck is all I have to say. Seen enough.

I’ve asked around — $20 million buyout is a drop in the bucket and not an impediment for a school to leave for the SEC. SEC might even pay it.

  7. BJD95 02/18/2012 at 11:02 PM #

That was stupid (agreeing to the $20M). But we have no choice but to pay it and get the f-ck out. Otherwise, we should stop selling our virtues to prospective student athletes.

Big Ten, Big Twelve, SEC…I really don’t care anymore. Just want out as soon as humanly possible.

“What happened in this world to someone being a man and admitting a mistake?”

Are you under the impression that Hess and Swofford are men?

  9. JT 02/18/2012 at 11:04 PM #

I doubt there is a whole lot Yow can do in line with what we would like, such as a public “F**k you!” to Swofford. But I have no doubt she has and will do what she can. This is completely f**king bogus. Pathetic. Maybe it can serve as a rallying cry to kick UNC’s ass, get the team out of the funk.

Who do we take with us to the SEC pitch meeting? VPI or Maryland? The latter might be a tad awkward for DY. The former makes more sense if they’re willing (and they should be).

NC State and VPI give the SEC a footprint covering the entire South. Lots of TV sets in VA and NC.

  11. Wulfpack 02/18/2012 at 11:06 PM #

You know, Gott did quite well for himself and the Tide in the SEC. I’m just sayin…

  12. Scratch 02/18/2012 at 11:07 PM #

Out of curiosity, what were the circumstances surrounding South Carolina’s departure from the ACC? Was it in any way similar to what’s happening now (ie, perceived lack of respect)? Or was it something else?

  13. tjfoose1 02/18/2012 at 11:08 PM #

“For one thing, IMO State should advise the police/public safety members who work games at the RBC not to take direction directly from game officials from here forward. That is one way to ensure this will not happen again without the ref having to go to RBC officials first.”

And begin by removing the police officer who did Hess’s bidding. He also failed to follow protocol. He no longer works an event at the arena.

  14. BJD95 02/18/2012 at 11:09 PM #

She can say “This is ridiculous, unjust, and North Carolina State won’t stand for it. Stay tuned.”

And then take a meeting with each of the Big Ten, Big Twelve, and SEC. I would love an announcement before the ACCT starts. Maybe during the ACCT, as our grandest middle finger gesture.

This is like getting caught burning down a building and apologizing for wasting gasoline

Not exactly, WilmyWolf. It’s more like your employee getting caught burning down the building and you slap him on the wrist for using 93 octane instead of 87.

Until a couple of weeks ago I thought all the “let’s to go the SEC” crowd was insane. Now I’m right there with you guys. Expansion has eliminated what was left of tradition. The only reason to stay in the ACC now is to get a twice weekly anal probing. No thanks.

  16. BJD95 02/18/2012 at 11:12 PM #

Scratch – that’s basically how I understand it, yes. They’ve done quite nicely for themselves in the SEC. I’m sure MG is on board. Definitely will help raise our profile when we have to hire TOB’s successor (after he retires in a few years).

  17. JT 02/18/2012 at 11:15 PM #

Hess has to go. Doesn’t have to be a big public deal, but he has to go.

  18. Dogbreath 02/18/2012 at 11:15 PM #

    BJD,

I like your assertive approach, but with one wrinkle: we should publicly humiliate the ACC on this incident. Ride it for all we can, knowing full well they will never grovel. All the while we orchestrate our exit. That way, we look golden having given the ACC every opportunity to show they can be impartial, and in the end the good old boy country club just can’t bring themselves to man up and make this right.

  19. Rick 02/18/2012 at 11:15 PM #

This is completely what I expected.
The ACC just craps on NC State and it’s history.

The sad thing is nothing will happen. We will go about out normal every day business and things will stay the same.

The blues will continue “winning” the ACC while the rest of the teams waste away to nothing. And the NCSU “leadership” will talk about next year.

The funny thing is even through all of the past 15 years of crap I have still cared. This might be the breaking point in which I stop. It is plain as day that we are nothing but fodder for the two blue schools and NCSU is going to do nothing but bend over and take it. I am not ever irate right now. I expected this.

NCSU is not going to pursue the SEC. We should be we will not. We will continue to be wallow in the crap that the bottom half of the ACC has become.

Welcome to irrelevance. The ACC just crapped on us and we smiled and said “Thank you may I have another”.

This is typically where prominent, individual board of trustee members can be useful. They are free to say whatever the hell they want about the league, and can shoot the proverbial cannon ball over the bow of the conference in a way that Gottfried, Yow, and even Woodsen cannot.

This is the way Texas A&M went about their business.

Let’s see if anyone comes forward, or if they really are all mossbacks.

  21. LRM 02/18/2012 at 11:23 PM #

Seems like Sourh Carolina set a precedence for responding to this kind of ****.

  22. BJD95 02/18/2012 at 11:25 PM #

We are Texas A-M. I hope we realize that and act accordingly. Don’t look back except to laugh at the idiots running this league.

  23. LRM 02/18/2012 at 11:26 PM #

Seems like Sourh Carolina set a precedence for responding to this kind of bull****.

I just imagined the phone call, if there was one between Hess and Clougherty and I thought of the exchange between Vincent and Jules in Pulp Fiction after they shoot Marvin in the face and they’re washing their hands in Jimmy’s bathroom. Vincent gets blood all on Jimmy’s wife’s good towels and Jules flips on him for risking a huge blow-up over something so small, “It’s shit like this that’s gonna bring this situation to a boil.”

We were all talking about how these three games (Duke, FSU and UNC) was make or break for our NCAA hopes. Well, if things continue in the downward spiral on Tuesday night, we may see NCSU absolutely explode with real vitriol toward the ACC and its operators.

So in a way, even losing all three games might be a win in the long run.
