Pack/Canes Game Thread

As was the Wake contest last weekend, this will be a “treadmill game” for me. I will join you in the comments for the second half, but hopefully my first half running will provide similar good luck.

NC State is in a three game “house money” stretch. Well, sort of. Going 0-for-3 wouldn’t be good – but one win is all we really need to hold serve and be well on track for a winning record in ACC play – which is the sensible goal for the 2011-12 Wolfpack.

CJ Williams will apparently give it a go today, which is huge for us. Hard to beat anybody with just a 6-man playable rotation. I like today being a test case for him – if he can’t play much or is exceptionally sore afterwards, I expect him to be held out until next Saturday’s pivotal contest against UVA. But that is just my opinion, and I’m sure tons of people will bitch about it some more. Free country and whatnot.

3.25 miles, and the best half of basketball (especially defensively) we’ve played all year. Raise your hand if you predicted it would be the DeShawn Painter show.

    Yeah, me neither.

    Go Pack!!!!!

Uh BJD, time to get back on the hamster wheel. We need another good half and everyone has to make sacrifices for it. Chiefly you.

And come on, Indiana. I know Penn State has the Joe Pa bump today, but seriously…

Cant see the game but watching the live gametrax and looking at halftime stats (44% FG/86% FT VERSUS 29%/70%) makes it appear to have been a good first half of BB and that the team was well prepared, AGAIN, for the game.

I was especially watching Painter play defense. Saw good things in general.

Decent first half but a lot of missed opportunities. Time for foot on throat.

^I am just glad we don’t do this live thread stuff for baseball games….Can you imagine the pitch by pitch, swing by swing, commentary ??

Basketball, just like baseball, is a game of percentages…. for the first half of this game, our’s are looking much better than the ‘Canes.

we have played well, lets not screw up. Give CJL some fluids at half-time.

  9. Rick 01/22/2012 at 1:38 PM #

They decided to let the spectators play at half time.

I heard Calvin say Pedialyte has helped the most. Pump it into him.

I’m very impressed with our defense overall. Maybe it’s Miami, but they haven’t gotten anything going offensively. They don’t ever seem to have an easy time getting it into the paint. If we keep clamping down, we can finish this.

“Remember that bad pass from cjw. We were up 16 with ball…bad pass converted to an open 3 and a quick 5-0 run for the canes.

You can’t afford those kind of mistakes.”

I had the same thought initially. I have to remind myself that if you constantly push the ball, like we do this year, you will have a couple of those each game. I don’t mind a couple of those in exchange for keeping constant pressure on the opposition’s transition defense.

My only concern for the second half is that Miami missed what I thought were a good many open 3’s. If that turns around for them it will be close down the stretch. Two three’s from CJW is the definition of gravy.

Oh one other stat. We are 3-5 from 3 pt range and they are 1-9.

Our FT shooting has given us the edge thus far (along with Painter’s touch). I like just about everything that we’re doing.

How does CJW look? Does he appeared hindered by the shoulder injury? I am guess if he hit 2 3-pt shots his range of motion must not be too bad.

Nice start to the 2nd Richard.

  17. Rick 01/22/2012 at 1:46 PM #

Howell with his third foul. He has fits with players that are bigger than he is

  18. Rick 01/22/2012 at 1:47 PM #

Brown a little too sloppy wiht the ball the last two trips.

  19. Rick 01/22/2012 at 1:47 PM #

Painter gets it and it is a shot

  20. lawful 01/22/2012 at 1:48 PM #

Don’t like them getting so many three looks. Good thing they’re not making them.

  21. Rick 01/22/2012 at 1:49 PM #

Calvin kicks it out for a wide open three

  22. lawful 01/22/2012 at 1:49 PM #

They’re a lot more physical on D this half. Nice Scott.

  23. Rick 01/22/2012 at 1:50 PM #

Great sequence until we lost the ball. I like how we are starting this half

  24. NCStatePride 01/22/2012 at 1:50 PM #

Lot’s of good chat going on here. 🙂

Yeah, Miami seems like a terrible shooting team. Haven’t looked at the stats, but they seem pretty weak.

  25. BJD95 01/22/2012 at 1:51 PM #

Oh, we are gonna finish. Their will is broken. Might beat em by 30.

I will TRY to hamster wheel the whole way on Thursday night. If I die, will at least die happy.

This Raycom play-by-play guy is excellent. He should not be 3rd or 4th string. I’ve heard him somehwere before, but can’t place him.
