Pack/Canes Game Thread

As was the Wake contest last weekend, this will be a “treadmill game” for me. I will join you in the comments for the second half, but hopefully my first half running will provide similar good luck.

NC State is in a three game “house money” stretch. Well, sort of. Going 0-for-3 wouldn’t be good – but one win is all we really need to hold serve and be well on track for a winning record in ACC play – which is the sensible goal for the 2011-12 Wolfpack.

CJ Williams will apparently give it a go today, which is huge for us. Hard to beat anybody with just a 6-man playable rotation. I like today being a test case for him – if he can’t play much or is exceptionally sore afterwards, I expect him to be held out until next Saturday’s pivotal contest against UVA. But that is just my opinion, and I’m sure tons of people will bitch about it some more. Free country and whatnot.

    Nice pass by Calvin.
We need to put the foot on the neck now

Johnson and Painter are playing well today. Good timing for them to have good games.

“Wood is frequently out of position because the majority of the time, he is guarding a player who is much quicker than he is”

We will have to agree to disagree. He does not play fundamentally sound defense and gets some stupid fouls because of it.

Nice run here, I’m loving to the hustle.

How is it fundamentally sound defense if you are getting beat off the dribble? If they guy is quicker than you, and you have the length, give him the space. If he rises up, you’re there to pressure the shot. It is not fundamentally sound to attempt to block jump shots from behind.

Dang it that was a big missed opportunity. We could have made it a double figure lead.

If they can keep up the solid D and come out in the 2nd playing solid, they should bow Miami off the court. That’s two ifs and a should, though.

Anyone know how many FTs Wood needs to get the ACC record?

  9. Rick 01/22/2012 at 1:20 PM #

    Make that one behind

  10. Rick 01/22/2012 at 1:21 PM #

    Hit these Calvin.

Wood has how many stupid fouls in this game?

  12. Rick 01/22/2012 at 1:22 PM #

Calvin is working really hard on post defense. If you get a chance, watch him.

  13. Rick 01/22/2012 at 1:23 PM #

Wood has aat least one bad foul when he tried to block the ball from behind.

  14. Rick 01/22/2012 at 1:24 PM #

The team is really playing hard and CJW just hit two threes. Me likey

I cant see the game so I guess the online game trax is wrong because it lists Wood as having one foul period.

  16. Rick 01/22/2012 at 1:26 PM #

How was that a foul. The player fell down because he pushed off of Calvin. Gee refs are gullible

Brown handled that double team perfectly. That would have been a TO as recently as a month ago.

Good half. Looking like a very good ball club. FSU, Duke, UNC and UVA take notice.

    Nice half.
12 point lead and we did not play a “perfect half”. We just played nice solid basketball.

LOL at how many complaints there are in this thread about Wood’s single “bad” foul.

Glad to see a nice working margin at the half, although it feels like it should be larger. Pretty impressive to hold Miami under 30 points in the first half at home.

Remember that bad pass from cjw. We were up 16 with ball…bad pass converted to an open 3 and a quick 5-0 run for the canes.

You can’t afford those kind of mistakes.

I’m glad Kadji picked up that bad foul, but the 5-1 run by Miami in the final minute brought the ugh.

  23. old13 01/22/2012 at 1:30 PM #

All our bigs plus Wood with two fouls.

  24. WeAreCured 01/22/2012 at 1:30 PM #

Thank you, BJD. Keep up the good work on the treadmill.

“LOL at how many complaints there are in this thread about Wood’s single “bad” foul.”

Heaven forbid we discuss a Woflpack player during a Wolfpack game.
