Hamlet just because people disagree with you does not mean there are less experienced or knowledgable about basketball.

“Barnes has had great regular season success with 400+ wins and has transformed Texas into a one of the top college basketball programs in the nation. He also led Texas to their first #1 ranking in 2010. However, he has won only one post season conference tourney championship (Providence, 1994 Big East) in his 21 years as a collegiate head coach. He has an overall record of 19–18 (.527) in the NCAA tournament (17-12 at Texas). In eight of his twelve years at Texas, the Longhorns went on to lose to a seed in the NCAA Tournament.”

At Clemson he had a 28-36 conference play and lost in the first round of NIT or NCAA in 3 of 4 years.

I don’t see greatness. I remember when he was at Clemson he was much like the complaints about TOB — never knew which team would show up and he always blamed the “youngness” of his team when they lost. He was also 1-9 against UNC-BS.

re: the “tourney” – I also like the fact that Vandy went on the beat Oregon St. If you’re going to lose, it’s always good to have the team that beat you continue to win. Unless it’s UNX of course.

^^Way to copy word-for-word from Wikipedia regarding Barnes. Hey, at least you quoted it, which means you didn’t graduate from UNC.

More than 400 wins? Try 526…against 259 losses. If he isn’t great then he is very, very good. Either way, he is a top coach in the sport and has been for quite some time. Did you notice that his third year at Clemson had them ranked 14th and 8th at season’s end in the AP and Coaches Polls?? Check how many times that has happened in the Tigers’ history, before or after he left. He also basically had a .500 record in ACC play at Clemson once you discard his first year when he had to clean up the mess Cliff Ellis left behind.

This post should be about Gottfried and the very good start he has gotten off to at N.C. State. I certainly do not wish to distract from that. At the same time, it is difficult to stand by while revisionist history is being promulgated.

Hamlet. I graduated from chemical engineering in 1987 (fourth generation).

It is difficult to stand by and tolerate UNC-BS attitude from some on here. It is an opinion. In my opinion he is a good coach but no where close to a great one (look at his record when it counted and against top-25 teams) and would not have been a good fit at NC State. You opinon can be different. I am ok with that.

What I am not ok with is “I shall refrain from being too negative in response to some of you…eh, less experienced (??) observers posting about Barnes, Lowe, and Gottfried. Let’s make this short and sweet:”. I get enough of this high and mighty attitude from blue fans.
