Cody Zeller (and Indiana Game Thread in the Comments)

Given Pack fans distaste for UNC’s absurdly awkward Senior, Tyler Zeller, we found it only appropriate to highlight his younger brother, Cody: the lone freshman in Tom Crean’s starting rotation. I can’t wait to see how the students go after him.

For starters, the family resemblance is impeccable.

Apparently his teammates aren’t trusting young Cody and he is having some trouble getting the ball. ESPN

Crean’s thoughts:

During a preseason scrimmage in October, Indiana coach Tom Crean saw something he didn’t like: His top freshman, Cody Zeller, wasn’t getting the ball. So Crean stopped practice to institute a rule. If the 6-foot-11 forward didn’t get at least one touch on a possession, his team’s bucket wouldn’t count.

“They did not lose the next couple of scrimmages,” Crean said later. “It was amazing. Cody makes it easier for everyone. Not to be a visionary, but I saw it coming.”

On a more serious note, at an athletic 6’ll”, Zeller could create a mis-match in the paint and The Pack will need to step up inside.

BJD Update: Because I’m lazy, this shall double as your open game thread. See you in the comments, bring the snark brothers and sisters. Hallelujah!!

“And, damn, I want to shave Tom Crean’s head. That is some “please kick my ass” hair.”

LOLOL I’ve never heard that before! That’s hilarious.

I’d say that #3 may be UVA, Clemson or (gasp) … us. Not been really impressed at all by FSU.

They brought in #25 from bench for last play and I laughed when they matched him up vs Howell. Leslie had a nice follow, but Howell boxed him all the way across the lane.

Additionally, #2 on Indiana may have the ugliest shot in basketball.

Win or lose, this is a great game to watch! Love the hustle (that’s taken 20+ years to resurrect itself in Wolfpack BB!)

Amen, tractor. That might be the most enjoyable part, that the losses won’t be baffling and infuriating. Shake their hands and say good game, knowing you took your best shot.

Elmore and Patrick’s two talking points for the night.

    – Cody Zeller and Tyler Zeller are brothers and their parents made stupid shirts

    – Make fun of CJ Leslie for making mistakes like taking a bad shot

I would rather listen to Billy Packer and Gus Johnson

BJD – Gott does a great job with the refs as well. He has that “good ole boy” charm. 🙂

  8. MrPlywood 11/30/2011 at 8:51 PM #

Elmore still hasn’t gotten over 1974.

I am just glad Jordan Williams is no longer at Maryland. I am not sure how much more I could stand of discussions on how he passed a record set by Elmore every 15 minutes.

Yeah, Mike Patrick is a douche bag.

  11. BJD95 11/30/2011 at 8:57 PM #

They just need to balance the Leslie comments – he is still doing really stupid stuff, but he’s also busting his ass and being a better teammate.

Mike Patrick – drunk, stupid, or both? Discuss.

  13. Rick 11/30/2011 at 8:59 PM #

Just got back from church. It sounds like the team is doing pretty good.

  16. MrPlywood 11/30/2011 at 8:59 PM #

I say drunk. Dude always sounds drunk.

  17. MrPlywood 11/30/2011 at 9:01 PM #

Was that Cj Williams with the stop and pop at the elbow? I love that intermediate range shot…

  18. Rick 11/30/2011 at 9:02 PM #

    Yeah it was CJW
That shot is a lost art

  19. Rick 11/30/2011 at 9:02 PM #

Zo wants to take things over. He can do it once he realizes how good he is

  20. Wufpacker 11/30/2011 at 9:03 PM #

Agree with Plywood….probably drunk. But don’t underestimate his stupidity, either.

  21. Rick 11/30/2011 at 9:04 PM #

Wow Zo is 7th in the country in steals
    impressive

Nice work beating the pressure and working thru the half court doubles. Coaching, man.

This is really great college BB!
Thanks coach Gott (and great to see IU back in the mix)

“Elmore still hasn’t gotten over 1974.”

It’s fun to ask him about Tommy Burleson. Try it sometime.
