Cody Zeller (and Indiana Game Thread in the Comments)

Given Pack fans distaste for UNC’s absurdly awkward Senior, Tyler Zeller, we found it only appropriate to highlight his younger brother, Cody: the lone freshman in Tom Crean’s starting rotation. I can’t wait to see how the students go after him.

For starters, the family resemblance is impeccable.

Apparently his teammates aren’t trusting young Cody and he is having some trouble getting the ball. ESPN

Crean’s thoughts:

During a preseason scrimmage in October, Indiana coach Tom Crean saw something he didn’t like: His top freshman, Cody Zeller, wasn’t getting the ball. So Crean stopped practice to institute a rule. If the 6-foot-11 forward didn’t get at least one touch on a possession, his team’s bucket wouldn’t count.

“They did not lose the next couple of scrimmages,” Crean said later. “It was amazing. Cody makes it easier for everyone. Not to be a visionary, but I saw it coming.”

On a more serious note, at an athletic 6’ll”, Zeller could create a mis-match in the paint and The Pack will need to step up inside.

BJD Update: Because I’m lazy, this shall double as your open game thread. See you in the comments, bring the snark brothers and sisters. Hallelujah!!

one question, Why are we playing a zone against a great shooting team????

  2. Wufpacker 11/30/2011 at 8:23 PM #

No one else has said it so I’ll be the one….

The Zeller brothers got their geekiness honest, apparently.

All this all-out hustle by the Wolfpack has me confused. It’s been soooooooo looooooong since I have seen it sustained like this.

Gotta be to stay out of foul trouble and stop CZ but they are still strokin it

    Scott Wood is money. Damn.

  6. redcanine 11/30/2011 at 8:26 PM #

Where the hell is Howell? I hope he gets his act together.

Painter went from barely sniffing the floor last year to a well earned starter. That’s not luck but coaching and conditioning.

Does anyone remember the last time a Wolfpack team was this fun to watch? It’s been a very long time.

  8. Wufpacker 11/30/2011 at 8:28 PM #

Man, I like this team. They’re not exactly pretty all the time, but they do not get out-hustled.

Corchiani’s sophomore or junior year. 1988. Before the scandal.

BC and FSU both in 1 pt games currently, btw.

Sure seems like its a touch-foul game on the outside and hack-at-will in the paint. That and Indiana is getting away with a lot of hand-checking. Different refs have different trigger points, I guess.

Leslie sort of reminds me of Chris Webber for some reason.

  13. mafpack 11/30/2011 at 8:37 PM #

Tom reminds me of Dwight from the Office… haha.

  14. Wufpacker 11/30/2011 at 8:38 PM #

Dang…sometimes the ball bounces your way. Halftime lead isn’t too bad considering.

  15. lupus occidit arietem 11/30/2011 at 8:38 PM #

Leslie pumped to make the last shot of the half….love it

Also, glad we have 42 at half, not the end of the game.

  16. Rochester 11/30/2011 at 8:39 PM #

From 11 down to up 1 at the half. Nice rally. Way to stick together, guys. Looking good.

And, damn, I want to shave Tom Crean’s head. That is some “please kick my ass” hair.

  17. Alpha Wolf 11/30/2011 at 8:40 PM #

Oh, and Mike Patrick is a still a douchebag. Some things never change.

  18. BJD95 11/30/2011 at 8:40 PM #

Really pleased with the effort, especially on the boards and defense. Sometimes the decisionmaking is bad, but zero complaints re effort.

Been a looooooonnnnnng damned time since I’ve been able to say that. Thank God for competent leadership.

Gentlemen this is what college BB should be

  20. Lunatic Fringe 11/30/2011 at 8:42 PM #

I love the way this team plays. Keep fighting, keep clawing, keep hustling, and doing it with a confidence that they can/will win the game.

  21. Wufpacker 11/30/2011 at 8:43 PM #

Loved the smiles from Gott as the team came to the bench for the timeout earlier. Not sure what he said to Leslie, but it was obviously approval of some sort.

  22. TheAliasTroll 11/30/2011 at 8:43 PM #

This is straight up exciting basketball.

Was on the edge of my seat for the entire 1st half.

  23. BJD95 11/30/2011 at 8:45 PM #

Now that I’m channel flipping at halftime – if FSU is the league’s #3 team…then the ACC is a real sack of monkey shit this year. These guys are AWFUL.

  24. tractor57 11/30/2011 at 8:45 PM #

I want the Pack to win always but this is a great game regardless of who wins

  25. BJD95 11/30/2011 at 8:46 PM #

Gottfried does seem to understand how to balance carrot and stick. Very important characteristic in any kind of leader.
