Is Roy afraid to travel to Wisconsin?

Adam Mertz at Madison.com caught up with former University of Wisconsin Athletic Director Pat Richter for his thoughts on the upcoming ACC/B10 Challenge matchup between Wisconsin/UNC. I’ll let you decide where Richter stands on the game. (emphasis is mine in bold)

UW men’s basketball: For Richter, timing of Tar Heels matchup reeks of Roy

Former University of Wisconsin athletic director Pat Richter is miffed at the timing and location of the Badgers’ first-ever matchup against North Carolina in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge, and it’s safe to assume he and Tar Heels coach Roy Williams aren’t exchanging Christmas cards.

In comments taped for his weekly radio show on WTLX-FM/100.5 and made public in advance of air time, Richter takes the Challenge’s scheduling process to task. And he asserts that Williams, who remains an unpopular character locally a decade after ripping the Badgers’ style of play in their 2000 Final Four appearance, “won’t come to Madison” and ensures that aim by unduly influencing the decision-makers at ESPN and the respective conferences.

“It still is a joke,” said Richter, whose full comments can be heard Wednesday at 6 p.m. on WTLX. “I know darn well that you’ll never get Roy Williams here. He won’t come to Wisconsin; he’s afraid the people are going to boo him and everything else. I think that’s all bogus.”

And how does he feel about Roy’s career?

“There are times we should have had them at our place, and it never happened,” Richter said. “And I think Roy Williams squeals. He’s never really had to pay his dues, so to speak, like a Bo Ryan and Dick Bennett.”

Aww shucks.

Sounds about right for Roy. We’ve all seen how he handles being booed in a situation where he can influence stadium security.

I’m pretty sure our guys are still having nightmares about traveling to Wisconsin too though.

Love it; ORW seems to be getting called out pretty regularly lately; to seem rather than to be…

coach K will only play home / neutral games.

K and Roy have figured out it’s not worth it to play away games. why take the risk?

“And here we go again — we’ve got to go down there when they’re supposed to have all these horses back, and it’s going to be a tough road for us. Who’s going to benefit but Roy Williams?”

Sounds like whining on UW’s part to me. I’m not ORW fan, but if you’re scared, say you’re scared. Just put your big boy drawers on and go play ball. He’s making excuses. And what’s this “they should have been up here before” stuff? What has that got to do with next year’s Challenge?

The shot about ORW not paying his dues is funny however.

It seems to me that just about everybody associated with the Hill is pretty weaselly. From top to bottom.

Thomas de Thaey, 6’8″ forward from the Canary Islands by way of Belgium. NCSU basketball commit today. Hellooooo? Anybody know anything about this guy? Is This our first commit from the Canary Islands? (I kiiid, I kid). Do tell. ….. My curiosity is most certainly up.

Sour grapes…UW’s never been to Chapel Hill either. And this is suppose to be one of UW’s best teams.

ACC-BIG10 challenge is set by the conference, isn’t it?
Does Roy have undue influence on the ACC, then?
It would be interesting to learn how much/little schools have input on planning the ACC-BIG10 challenge.

Isn’t the ACC/Big Ten Challenge supposed to be home and away? UNC played away last year, Wisconsin played home last year.

The stuff about Roy is funny, but like wolfbuff, I don’t think it is relevant to the match-up.

“Does Roy have undue influence on the ACC, then?”

Tell me again, who’s the commissioner of the ACC? … but really, is that a serious question? Perhaps I am missing the sarcasm.

I mean, c’mon… we all know Butchie and the football program doesn’t get any special treatment from the ACC. They’re coming down on them just like they would any program…

it’s all pretty funny to me.. ^^ however it does sound a bit roy like to cry about unc-ch not ever visiting wisconsin. ..but, it’s still nice to hear someone outside the ACC to dump on hole roy!

^^^yes, i’m sure our guys are will never forget the badgers’ introducing us to the wood shed. my eyes were as big as saucers when i saw that performance.. scary, easily one of the worst performances i’ve ever seen.. maybe only second to the blistering we took at unc-ch a few years ago..

hopefully the years of unc-ch AND duke getting their way is coming to an end!? roy williams may be a good coach.. but he’s a whining little _____ (take your pick)! i cannot stand anyone who behaves that way.. i don’t respect people who associate with that type.. which includes their players…
