A Reminder of SFN’s Role

Over the past few weeks, we’ve seen a mini-tsunami of ignorant analysis from the national and regional media. SFN has chronicled same here, here, and here (likely a few others I glossed over). As much as I subscribe to the “don’t feed the media trolls” philosophy, it’s hard to completely ignore such nonsense. It’s gotten so bad that the Duke Basketball Report and local sports radio finally stepped in to note how patently absurd this “analysis” really is.

But ignorance in the national media – particularly the national sports media – is nothing new. What may be a bit more puzzling is when the PAID editor/administrator of a site that charges Wolfpack fans actual, hard earned money cites some of the above-referenced nonsense as a “good read.” That’s exactly what Pack Pride’s James Henderson did. I’m not going to link to any of their drivel, but trust me, I’ve confirmed with multple people that this is exactly what happened. Of course, this doesn’t surprise many people who remember how tirelessly Henderson and Pack Pride have shilled for Lee Fowler and the status quo “company line” (gosh, anything involving NC State athletics is a terrible job, and rising as high as mediocre should be celebrated and rewarded). I guess it’s nice to see consistency from PP, even after Drs. Woodson and Yow have thoroughly turned that status quo mentality upside down.

Simply put, this is a good time to remind everyone of why SFN is here. We don’t want your money. We don’t want “insider access.” We only want what is best for North Carolina State University, and to see that the voices of countless everyday fans (from doctors, lawyers, and engineers to new students) can be heard above the din of idiocy. And you can count on one thing – we will always tell you the truth, whether or not it’s pleasant to hear. We can’t share all of our information (or we wouldn’t keep receiving it), but we stand by our track record. Long-time readers (even ones that have disagreed with one or more of our editorial stances) can attest to the fact that we don’t pull “analysis” out of our rear ends, and that you can figure out lots of information by reading between the lines.

We hope you will keep reading and following SFN in the weeks, months, and years ahead. We have the best readers and commenters in Wolfpack internet-dom, and we can’t stress enough how very much we appreciate that.

This site provides an invaluable service to the NC State fan community. This is the homepage for my browser, and I always look forward to the commentary and the fellow fan views in the forums. I certainly would never consider paying any of the other sites, but this one I would.

But I’m glad it’s free. Makes it all the better.

Pano, It is premium content so I cannot link it but suffice it to say Henderson agrees with everything Parrish said and sees no reason why PP should try to refute the garbage that is being spewed about us. The DBR certainly provided an exceptional summation of our history and why we should expect better but when questioned why PP has not produced such a piece all Henderson et al can say is it is not worth their time to respond to the national media when they denigrate our program and lie about our history.

Thanks Baylis. I never really realized that Henderson didn’t have our best interests at heart. I’m done with that site now.

SFN…I am sure that my post had something to do with this announcement from you. Please know that I am very thankful for SFN and as I may have semi-hammered the site on posting the national media junk…I should have also stated that SFN is a haven for us in so many areas. I do want to say thank you for the service. I know that all of us just want the pack bball program to grow. The history is rich and lets go help be a big part of the rescue.

    Thanks again.

    BAM… AMEN!

Thanks for all you do SFN….you are the only site I read.I think it helps me get thru the the mess that is NCSTATE BB over the years.
I think you have some of the most intelligent people commenting on this site.I think we all want what’s best for NCSTATE and sometimes the truth hurts.

Simply would not have seen the Featherston article if not for SFN. He made points with the history and also with the fact that Duke/unx would not stand for what we have gone through. . As with many others, I need to hear what the fan base thinks about the teams, coaches, and management. We would not get this anywhere else. Again thank you SFN.

This is my favorite website. I never miss a day reading the blogs and forums. Thanks for all you do to make SFN the #1 authority of N. C. State athletics and of N. C. State in general.

You know the only thing that could make SFN better is have some nekid NCSU coeds!
    ….NOT THAT I CARE…
Just that it would probably generate a lot more hits for the blog thus a lot more revenue so SFN could fight an even better fight against the forces of evil…..

    …just sayin’

Golden Chain. really nice. naked coeds, huh ?????
Then SFN would stand for Students F…ing Naked.

Lets stick to sports and attracting the people that want to help make change at NCSU.

    ….just sayin”

Thanks guys. Appreciate all the time and effort, and of course, the resultant end product.

Same to all contributers and posters. Agree or disagree, we can almost always get well presented and thought out points and counterpoints from our diverse community.

    It is all greatly appreciated.

    nocard,

GC’s comments were made in jest.

Thanks guys! SFN is the only NCSU site bookmarked on my Blackberry. As an alumni out in the sticks it gets lonely out here, surrounded by all the non-graduate fans of baby blue U.

Some of you new readers should go to the very beginnings of this site and read it from the start. SFN’s record speaks for itself. Read their analyses through time of Herb. Of Chuck. Of Lee Fowler. Of Oblinger.

When you do, you will find that the truthiness of this site, written as it is by regular people with other real jobs, far exceeds that of the so-called pros who supposedly cover stories with balance and accuracy.

The guys at PackPride are too busy kissing up to the mainstream media IMHO. They are no more authority on NC State than many of us…and I would bet the farm on that. Being a native of Raleigh I was literally raised in Reynolds, from the time I was born in 1977. Heck, I attended my first ACC tourney in my mother’s womb. While I don’t like what the national media says, it doesn’t surprise me because they don’t know. What really angers me is when our own pile it on. MARK MY WORDS, NC STATE will be back. It will be all out war this go round. We have been disrespected by too many people and our new administration will not accept any more mediocrity. GO PACK
