A Reminder of SFN’s Role

Over the past few weeks, we’ve seen a mini-tsunami of ignorant analysis from the national and regional media. SFN has chronicled same here, here, and here (likely a few others I glossed over). As much as I subscribe to the “don’t feed the media trolls” philosophy, it’s hard to completely ignore such nonsense. It’s gotten so bad that the Duke Basketball Report and local sports radio finally stepped in to note how patently absurd this “analysis” really is.

But ignorance in the national media – particularly the national sports media – is nothing new. What may be a bit more puzzling is when the PAID editor/administrator of a site that charges Wolfpack fans actual, hard earned money cites some of the above-referenced nonsense as a “good read.” That’s exactly what Pack Pride’s James Henderson did. I’m not going to link to any of their drivel, but trust me, I’ve confirmed with multple people that this is exactly what happened. Of course, this doesn’t surprise many people who remember how tirelessly Henderson and Pack Pride have shilled for Lee Fowler and the status quo “company line” (gosh, anything involving NC State athletics is a terrible job, and rising as high as mediocre should be celebrated and rewarded). I guess it’s nice to see consistency from PP, even after Drs. Woodson and Yow have thoroughly turned that status quo mentality upside down.

Simply put, this is a good time to remind everyone of why SFN is here. We don’t want your money. We don’t want “insider access.” We only want what is best for North Carolina State University, and to see that the voices of countless everyday fans (from doctors, lawyers, and engineers to new students) can be heard above the din of idiocy. And you can count on one thing – we will always tell you the truth, whether or not it’s pleasant to hear. We can’t share all of our information (or we wouldn’t keep receiving it), but we stand by our track record. Long-time readers (even ones that have disagreed with one or more of our editorial stances) can attest to the fact that we don’t pull “analysis” out of our rear ends, and that you can figure out lots of information by reading between the lines.

We hope you will keep reading and following SFN in the weeks, months, and years ahead. We have the best readers and commenters in Wolfpack internet-dom, and we can’t stress enough how very much we appreciate that.

    mini-tsunami of ignorant analysis

    What a great characterization.

great work guys. Really appreciate the site being a constant voice for our fans. Too many other sites try to play both sides, afraid to anger their media buddies like Mike DeCourcy, etc.

Agree, no need to look any further than SFN. Great site where writers call it like it is and readers have the ability to comment freely.

    Great work SFN!

I think it’s also important to note that many of the SFN authors are just ordinary fans with no insider’s access at all (like myself). Essentially, we’re nothing more than a representative cross-section of the entire fan base — we don’t always agree with each other but we all want to see State succeed. Jeff & BJD gave us a platform to contribute as much or as little as we’d like, and considering we all have full-time jobs, the quality of the research and commentary from guys like Daily Update, VaWolf, WVWolf and Old MacDonald is what is most impressive about SFN.

Plus, unlike the traditional media outlets — local or national — we all take pride in our work rather than simply mailing it in.

    Your site is certainly appreciated.

Please quit calling her Dr. Yow. It was an honorary doctorate, not an earned one. You sound like, in particular, one of her kiss-ass assistant ADs.

I find myself spending more and more time over here. I admit that I am a premium subscriber at PP but honestly I am going to let it lapse. I have had enough of Henderson running down N.C. State. He is a clueless, spineless shill for the status quo. The Parrish garbage and his response to the DBR piece sent me over the edge. Keep up the good work SFN.

It’s always nice to go to a place on the interwebs where there is such a high signal to noise ratio. And bonus, it’s about NC State!

Keep up the good work guys.

Damn BJD, yet another hammer meets nail momemt for you. You’re so good at it I bet you have Popeye style forearms.

    1. Baylis – Do you have a link to Henderson’s response to the DBR piece? I find it a little difficult to believe that anything negative could be said about Featherston’s article.

    2. I come to SFN for what it is. Honest commentary on all things NC State. I recognize that PackPride is a commercial site that is part of a larger network of sites that is only going to give us good news (or at least party line). There is decent stuff on PP as far as recruiting and stats. But, that’s about it. When PP stopped doing the webrun, I really stopped going there very much. I never visit their monkey boards. Additionally, Henderson was flat out wrong to post the Parrish stuff and should be ashamed of himself.

    3. Oh yeah. Good win today Pack. Let’s get another.

^Ditto. More than appreciative to be able to come here to talk, celebrate, or commiserate. Don’t know what I’d do without SFN.

I love this place, but Derek Medlin makes me want to throw up. GO PACK!

With sarcasm “Don’t you know your role? You’re associated with NC State so you have to suck”. Again with a heavy dose of sarcasm…

Good work as usual SFN. It’s only a matter of time before we’re back to the good ole days

Bravo! Most of the alumni, myself included, thank you for your service to N C State.

    Hey I have an idea!!!
Why don’t we just WIN for a change, regularly, consistantly, and occasionally in a grand way then perhaps the “mini-tsunami of ignorant analysis” would turn into a mud puddle!

…but until then SFN is needed more than ever!

  23. Wolfpack_1995 02/13/2011 at 6:29 PM #

The other site, Wolfpacker, is more responsible. I go there and here for news on things.
