Julius Mays will transfer, family says (11:30 p.m. update)

Where there is smoke there is usually fire.

The rumors regarding Julius Mays potentially transferring from NC State have been on the message boards for a few days, but this morning things got a bit more intense. It’s tough to say whether Mays’ potential decision to transfer says anything about the recruitment of CJ Leslie, but it certainly appears a connection is there. It’s tough to blame Mays for leaving. His minutes would have likely gone way down next year compared with his first two years on campus. He can go somewhere smaller and get playing time and be a contributor to a solid mid-major type team.

Here’s a radio segment from this morning.

WRAL: PackPride: Signs point to Mays transferring from NC State

Message boards and Internet rumors. The latest one involves N.C. State guard Julius Mays leaving the program.

PackPride.com editor James Henderson joined Mark Thomas on 620 The Buzz Wednesday morning. Henderson was aware of the impending situation with Mays but was noncommittal when discussing it on the show.

“We really can’t run anything on that situation until we can get someone to publicly comment on it,” Henderson said. “But from everything we gathered all signs point to that happening. It’s just a matter of us reaching Julius, a family member, someone along those lines to confirm it.”

UPDATE

Pack Pride: Mays to Transfer

A source close to the situation has informed Pack Pride sophomore guard Julius Mays will transfer from NC State at the end of the school semester. A family member confirmed that Mays would be leaving NC State, but has yet to decide on a destination.

“He’s transferring,” said Mays’ grandfather. “I don’t know where he’s going yet. He told us we would talk about all of that when he got home from North Carolina.”

    “Mays was an over-hyped recruit”

He was a three star recruit and he played like one.
The question is why Lowe and company locked onto him so early.

does anyone know if Mabry has an offer?

Mays was a mediocre player at his best. He was a well below average ACC player most of the time. He did seem like a very nice guy. His transferring is probably good for a team that wants to be made up of talented players. If I were him I would want to transfer to a mid-major team which is consistent with his talent level and where he could be a major contributor.

As for CJ’s tweets – I guess it’s all about you CJ. Billy Donovan sounds very smart.

Isn’t that what Twitter is all about? Believing the world is so obsessed with you that you must let everyone know what you are doing with your day. Why would an 18 year old kid with the world at his feet be any different?

I wonder more why the lady down the hall in HR asked me to follow her.

I appreciate the effort and attitude of Julius Mays, and I hope he succeeds whereever he transfers. As for the 3-star status, lots of players are 3-stars coming in, and turn into 5-stars going out. Sometimes you take a flyer, and sometimes it doesn’t pan out.

^Julius Mays got us Scott Wood. That’s why he was recruited IMO.

Any news on CJL or Mabry?

  8. 61Packer 04/22/2010 at 8:59 PM #

Does this mean we can go after another Athens Drive player?

“Julius Mays got us Scott Wood. That’s why he was recruited IMO.”

So we recruited one three star recruit so we could get another one?
That does not make sense as it is easy to get three star recruits and while Wood is good, he is not good enough to have been worth a scholarship to Mays.
I think you are wrong on this one.

That’s a bit of a stretch. Sid was just wrong on Mays, plain and simple.

Plain and simple Sid has been wrong more than he has been right.

Good News State Fans – T. Mabry was on campus today and I think Lowe is supposed to go to Rocky Mount on Tuesday so I was told today by a close friend of Mike Mabry and son Tayshawn. My friend is almost certain that an offer is coming and will be accepted.

Better News State Fans – CJ Leslie was also in the gym today today too and I was told that he was very excited for Mabry and told him “that it would be great to play with you again” because they are on the same AAU team now.

AAU teammate, close friend in Harrow, and other talented players on the team. We have at least a good a shot as KY and my friend who thought he was a shoe in for KY previously thinks we are favored now in the race to get CJ. He said don’t expect a CJ commit anytime soon though because CJ has indicated he wants to be the last major signee which could be huge for us if he picks state.

GO NCST haha kidding… Go Pack

Me thinks that CJL, in all his attention whoring glory, will come to State because it is close to home. That’s how he rolls. Whether that’s a good thing or not remains to be seen.

I hope J Mayes is successful wherever he goes. But the wolfpack will be better of because the guards will be: Harrow. Javi g, possibly Lbrown and another kid, signed to the classs. But we all know that Ryan Harrow was to be the minutes and lbrown the Javi to rest these two. If his temper does not get him and a great front line in Tracy smith and richard howell and scott wood with cjl if he commits.
The only teams to worry about are Duke and Unc asnd perhaps maryland because the following are in trouble:
Wake:new coach and lost Aminui and smith
Virigna:lost lburg and no real players
GT:Favors gone and others so Paul Hewitt made is 1-4 yrs visit to the ncaa;s
    BC:another coach and bad talent
Clemson:another coach and less than stelar talent
VTECH:Maleaney has declared and i doubt he will be back.
    Miami:Coming off a losing season
Fstate:ADIAU turns pro and state usually beats them anyway

So only Duke,UNC(and that is a little iffy because the recruits have not played one minute) and Maryland ,whom lost Vaquez(glad to see that jerkhead go)

So this is lowes time, He cannot blame the “i don’t have a point guard game anymore and with the solid front line returning. It is NCAA”S and i mean at least a sweet 16 or possible elite eight run or i think he should be shown the doorala Dino Gaudio!!!

Julius should leave. Let’s be realistic guys. With Lorenzo Brown and Ryan Harrow coming in and the other roster guards, he can expect about ZERO playing time.

It was bad timing for him.

We have been waiting for so long for real quality guard play. And BAMMMM….

We wish him luck at hist next stop.

mays isn’t gonna see any minutes when harrow gets here. he really doesn’t have what it takes to play in the acc, he’d be great at a slightly lower level. i’d like to see what mabry’s got if the scholarship opens up.
