Roy Williams Kicks Presbyterian Fan Out of Dean Dome

During the second half, Deon Thompson was shooting free throws. The Smith Center was so quiet you could hear a pin drop. That’s when it happened. One of the Blue Hose faithful yelled something to the effect of “You’re gonna miss it, Deon.” Although it didn’t cause Thompson to miss the free throw, it did catch the ire of head coach Roy Williams.

    Thanks for sharing, coppertop.

I like the preferred throwback jersey… Serge Zwikker.

Hilarious. I had a roommate who would always yell with hands firmly mounted on his head: “Oh my God, it’s Serge Zwicker with the Zwicker surge!!” For whatever reason it always made me laugh.

I’m beginning to think that the Roy that we all like is the fake one – and the Roy here – is the real one.

Remember, this is the same guy earlier who chastisted UNC fans for daring not to show up to watch them play some cupcake. He really comes across as a spoiled brat who has very little tolerance for others.

You have to wonder how if this is an effect of spending too much time on the hill…..

timeless question – did Roy become an arrogant prick because he’s the holes’ coach, or did Roy make such a good fit for the holes coach…

    chicken or the egg.

Guys, I hate the Tarheads as much as anyone, but we would be FINE if Sid kicked out an annoying Carolina fan. Sid would be a hero. Roy is just setting a precident that “when you come to the Dean Dome as an opposing fan, you better watch your behavior.” If he’ll kick out a Presbyterian fan, he’ll kick out anyone. I think it’s fine to have a “homecourt” advantage and I think it’s fine for Roy to kick someone out.

  6. theghost 12/15/2009 at 12:58 PM #

^if Sid kicked out a heels fan for being obnoxious – absolutely. If Sid kicked out a heel for spilling his popcorn I’d be okay with it.

But if Sid kicked out a Georgia Southern fan for heckling a free throw? He would not be a hero.

And the only precedent he’s setting is for duke students to start buying up tickets to cupcake games to see if they can get thrown out of the dean dome by Roy. This is either going to be a comical debacle spiraling out of control on Roy, or an Orwellian crackdown on hecklers for the rest of the OOC schedule – or both.

My definition of “heckling” could be as simple as pulling for the someone other than the home team. Based on this, when UNikeC visits the RBC, they should kick every Tarheel fan out of the building!

Seriously, the guy – good ole Roy – has finally shown his true spots and the UNikeC adminstration is attempting spin control by trying to discredit the poor Presbyterian fan.

this is all very interesting, especially in light of the little write up in SI last week with Dan Patrick who said he spoke with Roy Williams and roy said he liked it when fans of other schools go crazy…. he even mentioned last yr they were yelling “roys been tan-nig!” after they played in teh Maui invitational. what a douche.

When good ol’ Roy is coaching against State in the RBC, he should be subject to the same rules. First time he says anything negative, out he goes.

  10. GAWolf 12/15/2009 at 4:46 PM #

The students should reinact the whole thing at one of the timeouts. Everyone could point to the corner where it will go down and they should do it. The “Roy” could dress up like the picture at the head of this thread. Just a thought…

“Guys, I hate the Tarheads as much as anyone, but we would be FINE if Sid kicked out an annoying Carolina fan.”

Hold it right there, umm, no it would not be ok if Sid Kicked out a Carolina fan. The Dean Dome is not a private club. Blue Hose fans have the right to ceer for thier team and against the opposing team. If Sid is ever reduced to childish arguments with fans in the seats then we have major issues. The allure of college sports or sports in general is the ability to cheer for or against the team of ones choosing. And anoter thing, the home court advantage is just that, an advantage, not an absolute. I think the real issue is the Dean Dome was so dead you could hear a single opposing fan. I think this speaks volumes of the state of UNX basketball this year and is laughable.

If annoying behavior alone is prohibited at sporting events the entire tarhole team would never see the floor because of the dancing prior to player introductions lol, not to mention duke fans in general. I paint with a broad stroke.

I am good friends with the fan in question, spoke with him last night about the incident. I posted about it on the forum piece. Roy’s a jerk.

I love the portrait of Kasier Roy Wilheim btw

  15. gcpack 12/15/2009 at 7:15 PM #

I’d like to see a student make a pic of Roy as Deputy Barney Roy Fife with a sheriff uniform on with a big caption in upper case letters,
    “CITIZEN’S ARREST!, CITIZEN’S ARREST!”

Hold it up throughout the entire UNC game this season at RBC.

You are one tough hombre Deputy Roy. What a big shot since you got 2 rings. He wouldn’t have said a word if he hadn’t had a whole team of
6ft.8in 20 yr olds standing around him. Pathetic and more proof that since Dean retired there ain’t no class at baby blue u. despite their self proclamation that they have the monopoly on class in college athletics.

I feel sorry for the poor guy who is being negatively portrayed by Kirschner. Its borderline slander to say such things. If he can show damages, he has a civil case (agree GA Wolf?).

The fellow actually showed a lot of class during and after the incident.

    This is fabulous….

Roy keeps having to ‘splain his position and comments. The Blue Hose fan is handling it far more professional. If you leave the sports pages for a while, you will proably remember that some of the “libs” there attacked folks who were peacefully talking AGAINST illegal immigration. I have figured out that conservatives provide military and police support for liberals who want “free speech”. However, when a conservative expresses an opinion that a liberal doesn’t like, then it is NO HOLDS BARRED to silence the conservative.

The LAST time I looked, it was called “The Dean Smith….” not “ROY’S HOUSE”. His outbursts about penalizing the LTR fans who dast give or sell their tickets to folks that might “taunt” the vaulted blue is getting to be a joke.

Roy is a great coach. He is usually a fine and upstanding individual. WRAL’s headline was “Roy gives HIS side…”. This is great. Roy is making a fool of himself. I have read excerpts of Roy’s book. He is usually pretty straightforward. The MEDS have gotten to him.

Keep this in the spotlight….it will only show that liberals screaming for “FREE SPEECH” mean…”You are allowed to express your opinion as long as it agrees with mine….”

SID is doing a great job…the team is playing like a TEAM and he has them on a short leach.

    GO PACK…BOO ROY!

Any chance NC State could hire Robin Ficker to sit behind Roy at our game this year?

    Remember Robin Ficker? If not:

Guarantee majority of State fans would be “okay” with Sid throwing a Carolina fan out at RBC. I was at a game where a rowdy Heel got taken out by security and the fans cheered. If Sid kicked out a rowdy Heel behind the State bench, fans would cheer. That said, I do agree with the point about level of competition. IE. I probably would think Sid was a bit luney if he kicked out a Ga Southern fan for shouting at a free throw. Still, I am okay with Roy’s actions here.

  20. fullmoon1 12/16/2009 at 8:09 PM #

Wolfmanmat, the only thing I would say is the scenario you lay out of a rowdy heel feen getting kicked out is very different. First of all the heel fan was rowdy as you describe, not simply cheering, the 2nd issue i have is the facility and security handled the situation based on behavior, not the fact that the coach or Sid in this case was irritated simply because the guy cheered or yelled. I think as State fans, we are not shy about criticizing our own coaches when it is due. anyway i am just making a small point, no disrespect intended. Thank God we have an excellent forum to disagree in a mature way.
