Second Half Offensive Meltdown Dooms Pack

Stop me if you heard this one before – but after building a solid first half lead, the Wolfpack offense goes into a coma for the entire second half, losing 72-64. At least it was just shitty and braindead play, not effort (unlike the Maryland game).

State will be seeded 10th, and square off against Maryland unless VT wins tomorrow and the Terps lose later today. For the rest of the weekend, here’s what you should want as an NC State fan:

1) Maryland to beat Virginia. If the Cavs win, you are looking at 3 ACC teams projected to fall into the NIT (Maryland, Miami, Virginia Tech) ahead of NC State. Although there is no hard and fast rule, the only reason I saw for leaving Wake out of the NIT last year was that 3 ACC teams were already in the field.

2) UNC to beat Duke. From a “hoping for a miracle” matchup standpoint, we need to avoid UNC for as long as humanly possible. Perhaps someone else (I’m thinking FSU) can beat them for us.

3) Wake to beat Clemson. Coupled with a Duke loss, this would put the Deacs in the #2 slot, and Wake is by far NC State’s best possible Friday matchup.

Yea, we are a totally awesome basketball team. 12 minutes without a field goal against Miami. Seriously? Did you watch the game?

If you read TJ Everette’s post with a little bit of slobber in your mouth and fake lisp, it sounds just like a Lou Holtz pep talk.

TJ: I promise you I don’t mean that as a cut to the substance of your post or that I agree or don’t agree with anything written therein. Rather, the simple cadence of the post and the stressed words is exactly like a Lou Holtz pep talk… but the lisp and slobber are absolutely necessary to get the full effect.

I hate to burst your bubble, but the likelihood of Wall coming here is getting slimmer and slimmer every day. Cousins committed to Memphis and says they’re talking about winning a national championship next year. Everything I’ve read about Wall tells me he’ll bite hook, line and sinker on that pitch.

    TJEVERETTE1984,

I for one, have very much enjoyed your contributions today, and you have hit the nail on the head 99% of the time. The one thing, and I know where you’re coming from, being a fan of NC State and all, but if you actually believe that NC State is the draw for HS kids that it once was, and that a kid today would be looking into just NC State alone, as in a separate entity that is detached from the ACC, then you too, are only kidding yourself.

The time period that NC State has ALLOWED IT’S OWNSELF to be separated from it’s “rich tradition” has all but eliminated any worth that those days may have afforded at the bargaining table in this day and time. Again, that may not be true for you personally, but those days are long gone, and they never even existed in the minds of these high schoolers right now, simply because of the way they have been wrecklessly and openly ALLOWED to slip out of sight, totally off of everyone’s radar screens, and right into the ancient history books.

  4. redfred2 03/08/2009 at 7:17 PM #

Well, so maybe we don’t get the #1 PG in the nation. Damnit, you people can’t expect us to get players like that every single time we go after them. I mean, there’s no way anyone should expect NC State to have the ability and keep up the rich tradition/pipeline of stellar PG’s coming in year after year. I hate it too, but it simply had to end somewhere, and sometime.

ok… so here is my view of wall from the game.

he sat right in front of Dwon’s brother, and beside some other kid around his age.

at the half, Jason Smith sat beside him and talked to both him and Clifton for a good ten minutes. I saw Robert Griffin exchange words with him as well.

Wall was on his phone a lot, looked bored… funny, i was too most of the game.

Aaron Bruce was there, and said hello to him as well.

on the most stalker-ish note, and absolutely worthless observation I could give… he had a soda and popcorn.

I wonder what sort of post-game activities they have lined up for him.

So, what exactly does ^that (???, invasion of privacy) actually tell us???

Is it telling us (NC State) something totally different from what it is telling a John Calipari at Memphis University right now, or even a Coach K and Duke University, and blah, blah, blah,… and right on down the line???

Is it possible that most every single HS kid/recruit that reaches that high level, including those who have already quietly committed elsewhere, is forced to deal with that type stuff to some extent, especially in today’s grand and glorious world of NCAA “controlled”/”amateur”/athletics/BB?

I’m not even talking about NCSU now, but isn’t it also very possible that some coach, somewhere, may not allow that behavior to continue any longer once that kid arrives on his campus, and once he becomes a part of his BB team? Is also possible that that kid can actually learn something different from that point forward, and for whatever amount of time he choose’s to spend under that college BB coach’s wing?

Or, am I just niave as all get out?

Invasion of privacy. No I think it’s called the internet, where
everybody and anybody can search the web. Just because I paste
it on this site doesn’t make it an invasion. Whats the difference between going to the site and copy it over here.
No your not niave and yes they do have to put up with
that kind of stuff. I was responding to another blogger who
asked if anyone knew something about John Wall. Since it is
getting to the point that if the kid farts we want to know when. I include myself, have been sucked into this worldwind. So,Im sorry if I crossed the line. I guess Im obsessed knowing
full well that he is what we need to jump start this thing
off the ground. Please except my apology redfred2 and to any
of my fellow State fans. I guess I thought I was trying to help.

  8. TJEVERETTE1984 03/08/2009 at 9:51 PM #

John Wall will be in NC State jersey next year 100% guranteed. His mom loves NC State and he wants to make a difference and he will be the bridge gap to get us to Ryan Harrow . He is coming ! has no reason to leave NC to go to school will stay close to mom and his family loves Sid

  9. redfred2 03/08/2009 at 10:09 PM #

wolfp83, Whoa, slow down, just because I didn’t know that that type of stuff is readily available on the interweb, doesn’t mean you owe me an apology. Take it back.

  10. redfred2 03/08/2009 at 10:19 PM #

TJE1984, I see all of your points, but what if you are wrong?

  11. redfred2 03/08/2009 at 10:28 PM #

Totally off topic, but ahs anyone else ever been flagged with a single sentence on blank page that reads:

“You are posting too rapidly, slow down.”

Probably not, just me. I seriously got that message on here this morning. Like I don’t already know that I post too much. “The Surgeon General says that constant posting is a threat to RedFred’s health.” Too funny.

  12. wolfp83 03/08/2009 at 11:03 PM #

OK refred2 I take it back. But I am catching myself into this
way too much. Can’t wait for the spring game, get me ready for
some football. Now that is the sport I’ve always wanted to
see State win it all in. Lets see for the last 41 years.

the lack of historical perspective demonstrated by some of the posters on here is appalling. Statements without proper factual support like “Lowe is the best recruiter we’ve had here in 10 years” simply demonstrate how disconnected with reality some in the fan base are. Les Robinson probably came closer to landing Jerry Stackhouse than we ever were to landing Favors. So why is it a cause for celebration that we make the final 5 of some really good players? There is absolutely no difference in that department, like Noah said, from every single NC State coach over the last 30 years.

What are the excuses going to be next year, when Lowe has even more of his own recruits on the court?

  14. GAWolf 03/09/2009 at 12:25 PM #

Jerry Stackhouse was a life-long NC State fan, if I recall correctly. Wouldn’t that then beg to reason the exact OPPOSITE is true… that instead of coming close to landing him Les actually BLEW it?

    Just playing devil’s advocate….

  15. TJEVERETTE1984 03/09/2009 at 12:50 PM #

I will make it simple if you do not believe in NC State and if you do not believe in Sidney Lowe then stop coming on this website and stop your bitching and moaning and complaining. Some of you guys sound like UNC fans FOR REAL !!! If you dont believe then turn the channel. PEACE

  16. Wulfpack 03/09/2009 at 9:12 PM #

^With all due respect, there are some very intelligent/passionate N.C. State fans that have been “believing” since 1983, and there hasn’t been a whole lot in return. They’ve poured their time, emotions, and checkbooks into the program, and for the most part, it’s been a poor investment. That’s not being “negative” or “pessimistic”, it’s simply a fact. In a nutshell, our program has become dogshit. We’re getting pummeled by Duke and UNC and now Wake and Clemson are handing it to us as well. We’ve finished T-10th, T-12th, and 10th the past three years. THOSE ARE FACTS. You can’t simply dismiss them. Sidney Lowe has been the head coach during that timeframe.

You are free to defend Sidney Lowe to no end, that’s your right and that’s your true belief. I will wait and see what happens and become optimistic when I feel the program is truly headed in the right direction. Right now, it’s not. And it’s not even close. That’s my belief and it is substantiated on FACT.

If the past three years are any indication, his tenure will be short lived. If he gets his act together, he’ll be around for a good long while and can become the coach we all want him to become. That’s the way it happens. But it’s up to him to get the job done. It hasn’t been easy nor will it get any easier. Next year is a crucial year.

  17. redfred2 03/10/2009 at 11:45 AM #

wulfpack, I can’t argue with much of your statement. The only difference, and the only thing I have seen is that NC State’s BB program is, HAS BEEN, and WAS, “dog shit” long before Sidney Lowe ever arrived to take it over.

I’m different though, I see the first and second places in the ACC as where we should have always been all along, and I do not compromise in that belief. While some of you can stomach anywhere from the three spot on down to eight spot as OK for NC State, I cannot. For that reason alone, once NC State drops out of TRUE contention for a championship, I couldn’t really care less where we finish in the conference standings. At that point all I want to see is constant improvement, to hell with the W/L records.

Also, I for one, am not so much defending Sidney Lowe, I am defending what he needs to do, why he ever even needed to do it in the first place, and just saying that people should recognize that it will take time.
