It’s Official – Jagodzinski Out at BC

Here’s your link. I suppose once DeFilippo went public with his insane threat, he kind of had to go through with it. For the idiots in BC’s fanbase, it is probably a proud chest-thumping moment. For the rational folks, thoughts of “who would work this Al Davis-like guy?” are in the forefront.

We previously discussed this matter here.

I’ve heard several reports indicating that Jags lied to Gene and went ahead with the interview. I’m less sympathetic toward Jags after hearing it, if it’s true.

Regardless, apparently he didn’t share the “vision” of staying long term at BC. Good luck trying to find that guy now!

“I thought that if he left the position on his own, BC does not owe him anything.”

Well, BC pulled the trigger and fired him first. There may be some clause that says if he finds work, BC is no longer on the hook for his salary. If that’s the case, he should go somewhere and work for $1/year so BC will be stuck paying for their stupidity.

I heard Steve Logan did that when ECU fired him with several years left on his contract. Not sure if that’s true or not.

Any good BC recruits back on the market that the Pack might be interested in?

One of our last remaining targets is also considering BC.

  4. bradleyb123 01/07/2009 at 4:26 PM #

Are you saying he is considering BC now, or he was before all this happened, and may NOT be considering them any longer?

  5. Noah 01/07/2009 at 4:30 PM #

One of our last targets —> IS consider ING <– BC.

    Present tense.

  6. Noah 01/07/2009 at 4:31 PM #

Well, that went all to crap. There should be big arrows pointing at the words “is” and the “ing” in considering.

  7. bradleyb123 01/07/2009 at 4:32 PM #

    Hopefully PAST tense now. 🙂

Fat Phil Fulmer to BC…book it 🙂

  9. Clarksa 01/07/2009 at 4:50 PM #

Supposedly Fat Phil and GD are friends…

Noah, is Justin Brown the recruit you were talking about?

Fulmer at BC would be a lot scarier than Jags. Particularly if Logan stuck around (finding a good OC was Fulmer’s achilles heel). If Spaz stayed, that’d just be icing on the cake for BC.

Somehow I just don’t think it will happen though. Fulmer would be a fish out of water in the northeast and trying to recruit there (both given how little talent is in the area and the additional restrictions in place).

  12. whitefang 01/07/2009 at 5:07 PM #

yeah the restrictions would be a little stricter than Tenn.

No one looks particularly good here.

Jags allegedly lied about the Jets & DeFillipo looks like the worst AD in major college athletics (with apologies to LF). Could Jags have seen the writing on the wall with recruiting & the team he had coming back in ’09? In any case, I’d say the odds are good they both lose out… Jags probably won’t get the Jets HC job and GD probably won’t get a very good FB coach.

  14. bradleyb123 01/07/2009 at 5:23 PM #

Did Jags lie, or did he just not tell DeFillipo about the interview?

  15. packpower 01/07/2009 at 5:23 PM #

When Fowler was interviewing for the Tennessee job in 2001 or 2002, I was told that GD was interviewing because he was friends with the former Tennessee AD and Fulmer.

Ruffles – what do you mean by “Cougar Hunting Fowler”?

  16. Astral Rain 01/07/2009 at 5:57 PM #

Why do I expect them to get more rejections then we got when Sid took the job?

They should just hire one of their coordinators and be done with it- might save some embarassment.

The Cougar Hunting was due to a comment by Fowler that we only wish would have gotten him fired.

You got to feel bad for BC, this is the second coach in 3 yrs that either walked away or was out looking. 70% of second marriages end in divorce, DeFillipo dumped his Coach before he could be dumped . . . this time at least. Too quick to pull the trigger? probably.
Oh well – it’ll be fun to watch them try to hire now.

I sorta think Jags is a genius here. 2 seasons, 2 trips to the ACC title game… and he’s only going down from there, since the last of the key TOB studs are soon departing.

He’s getting out while the getting’s good… no place for his stock to go but down from here.

  19. highstick 01/07/2009 at 7:15 PM #

Fat Phil in Boston, that’s funny! There’s no BBQ or cornbread in Boston! Fat Phil might be Spurriers new offensive coordinator…Now that would be really funny!!

Somebody link the fellow up with the “Cougar” so he won’t be left in the dark.

One question for the BC AD…If contracts are ironclad and a coach should never interview for another job while under contract does this mean that BC will not interview any candidate (current head or assistant coach) who is still under contract with their present school? Just wondering that’s all…

In other football news, former NCSU recruit Matt Simms is leaving Louisville. Justin Burke, former NCSU player, is one of the guys who will compete for his spot.

I think we are missing what is really happening here…

Jags was handed the reigns to one of the best rosters in the conference. The idea behind BC’s AD not extending TOB’s contract or trying to keep him was that he was going to get a big personality guy to come in and recruit better players to take BC to the “next level”. The idea was that TOB was one of the reasons BC wasn’t attracting 4 and 5 star players, so get someone like Jags in there to improve recruiting and build on the foundation TOB established.

While Jags did fine as a game coach(a grand total of one more regular season ACC win than TOB the previous two years), recruiting wasn’t his cup of tea. Either he didn’t like recruiting or he wasn’t good at because if you look at their class this year it is total crap. Jags is an NFL guy and he wanted out of BC.

The AD understood what was going on in recruiting and hoped it would get better. But when Jags made this move to strike while the iron was hot, the BC AD knew that Jags wasn’t going to be a long-term solution and to keep the program from slipping further he decided to fire Jags and get a college coach in place.

It was a no-brainer move for the AD. He had to do it. The BC program has hit a peak and it is going to slip from here. They have no answer at QB and they lose several key defensive players from this year’s team. He needed to get a college coach interested in recruiting in place to rebuild the roster again like TOB did during his time at BC.

Glad to see an AD do the right thing.jag had agreed to be the BC coach for 5 years but planned not to honor this agreement if something better was available.he was dishonest to the school, his players, his assistants and next years recruiting was destroyed.I admire their AD.

  24. PackerInRussia 01/07/2009 at 9:48 PM #

To top off the day, BC loses by 12 to Harvard. Ouch.

  25. Wolf Dog 01/07/2009 at 10:34 PM #

Did the jets ever ask for permission to talk to jags? NFL teams will usually ask permission to talk to another team’s assistants and some AD’s ask other college ad’s to talk to thier coaches. Wonder if the jets ever sought permission to talk to Jags?
