Saturday’s Stat of the Day

A team ranked either #1 or #2 in the BCS standings has lost their final game 11 different times in the past 10 years!

UPDATE: The trend continues today as #1 Alabama lost 31-20 to #4 Florida.

Let’s use this entry as Saturday’s open entry to discuss the Wolfpack’s game with Davidson as well as all of the college football action.  Also, don’t forget that we have new chat room open that is accessible from the link in the banner above.

  5. PoppaJohn 12/06/2008 at 1:54 PM #

    Me too, WSFM dropped
    Score please???

    GO PACK!!!

PS – Agree w/ SFN. Fells opportunity to shine, drops the ball.

  6. Tau837 12/06/2008 at 1:56 PM #

The announcers said James and Hickson are there together.

  7. PoppaJohn 12/06/2008 at 1:56 PM #

    WSFM is back. Weird.

  9. PackerInRussia 12/06/2008 at 1:57 PM #

WSFM does that for some reason. They will go several minutes playing music and then they’ll come back to the game. I don’t understand. It’s back now.

Even thru the radio, I “see” us being taken to school on the boards. Ground Hog Day! Davidson w/ 19 O rebounds? Make it 21.

Three point shooting needs to be worked on, it is awful and the difference in this game.

  12. PoppaJohn 12/06/2008 at 2:06 PM #

Down 3, 11 seconds left. We need a score, I’m wondering who we turn to? Who’s our ‘go to’ guy?

Just too young of a team to win this game…

Not Horner . . . evidently the coaches don’t agree.

I wonder when ESPN will quit slurping Stephen “The Most Unselfish Player in College Basketball” Curry. When Allen Iverson jacks up 30+ shots– and misses over half– he’s a ball hog.

But, I suppose Curry has a nice boyish smile.

Anybody who shoots the ball 30+ times doesn’t particularly need gift calls from officials either, be them fouls or double dribbles.

  16. PoppaJohn 12/06/2008 at 2:11 PM #

Hey, at least we held Curry to 44! I guess Sid’s defensive strategy worked.

. . . classic.. . when it really counted most, nobody could make a bloody shot~!

  18. cowdog 12/06/2008 at 2:13 PM #

When you are an ave. shooting team at best ya can’t turn it over 18 times and give up 23 2nd chance pts.
That’s the diff in the game. Nothing new.

Go back to the dessert buffet, until Marquette comes to town in a couple of weeks.

We’ll see if the team’s learned anything from this loss, because we could’ve won it. We could’ve taken control part way through the second half, but had some awful play on offense – turnovers and missed shots – to let Davidson back in the game.

“Just too young of a team to win this game…”

Two seniors and a red-shirt junior make up your starting front court. Ferguson’s a junior or senior by now. Inexperience isn’t the problem. The players just have the wrong type of experiences to win games like this.

Saturday’s stat of the day: Stephon Curry: 44 points.

  21. Gene 12/06/2008 at 2:19 PM #

If our perimeter defense is this suspect now, wait till we get into conference play…

  22. wufpup76 12/06/2008 at 2:22 PM #

Almost a complete meltdown in the 2nd half … Davidson got much more physical on D and on the boards and we didn’t respond enough … very disappointing – they just wanted it more in the 2nd half

    – Courtney Fells wasn’t even assigned Curry and I guess felt he didn’t need to show up today … pretty poor overall effort … Williams was by far the best guy assigned to Curry today

    – We looked our best at times when Mays was on the floor … not an encouraging game from the point guards, particularly in the 2nd half

    – Rebounds, rebounds, rebounds … we won the first half and led the game … we lost the boards battle badly in the 2nd half and it cost us the game

Even w/ all that above, we were still in the game … Both Costner and McCauley played hard, though I wish Smith could’ve played more

Disappointing loss in that we had our opportunities to win, but at least we lost to a good team

  23. Garrett 12/06/2008 at 2:23 PM #

He may have had 44 but Curry was not the reason we lost the game.

First half our transition defense sucked.
Second half our defensive rebounding was nonexistent.
We would have beaten them relatively comfortably had we grabbed half the rebounds that floated by us in the second half. Just ridiculous.

That being said, I still think this team has alot more going for it than last years team. Javi, CJ, Ben and BC all played pretty well. No one else really helped. We’ll be a decent team as the season goes along IF courtney decides to use the scholarship he’s been given. If not, we’ll play hard but be overmatched and finish near the bottom of the acc again.

  24. BJD95 12/06/2008 at 2:25 PM #

Yes, Curry got 44 – but we held the team to 72 total. Lack of offense and poor rebounding down the stretch cost us this one, not perimeter defense or the gameplan.

Having your most gifted offensive player be a total headcase doesn’t help. Post-game thread is open.
