College Football Saturday- Week 1 Open Thread

I thought I’d put this up to leave a place for folks to comment on the first Saturday of college football. If you’re like me, this marks the first of many Saturdays filled with grilled food and the beverage of your choice.

Plenty of action today, VT and ECU are at it now, and in a surprise Hawaii and Florida are in a low scoring game in the Swamp. Later in the day we get Virginia/USC (the Yankees of college football- read into that what you will) and Clemson/Alabama in a night game. Plus a smattering of other games, some more interesting than others. (Me for example, I’m enjoying Wisconsin vs. partial qualifier university, err, Akron.)

Have at it.

highstick, yeah that right actually. whadayaknow, a tarhole told the truth about something. The story is that the weather became so bad, so the pilot and the skydivers were just circling, then when the weather cleared they jumped, but they happened to be over Duke’s Stadium

My future brother in law offered me tickets to the ECU/VT game, so of course I went.

We all agreed (2.5 ECU fans, 1 NCSU fan, .5 UNC fan) that ECU had little chance of winning. Boy were we surprised.

Good tailgating, good beer, and really a good, exciting, fun game. ECU was outnumbered in the stands close to 3 to 1, but when that last score went up it got pretty noisy, at least in the middle of the ECU section.

ECU has potential to have a pretty good year, but then again, they may crap it away like they are prone to doing.

BTW, you wouldn’t believe the amount of UNC tailgating supplies in the ECU section of a tailgate. It was painful at times.

And traffic in Charlotte after a game reeeealy sucks.

The skydiver story is true, they mentioned it on NPR this morning. My buddy who was at Kennan said a) construction fences everywhere made getting into the stadium a nightmare b) the scoreboards were all on the fritz c) the PA system buzzed all night until they turned the main scoreboard off c) no PA system on the concourses. All this for an extra $15 dollars a game for season ticket holders. His evaluation of unx after one game? They stink.

The ACC sux and that includes that terrible perfomance by the Holes (you know, this year’s world beaters) who had a hard time with McNeese State.
