3-23 (0-16) aka “Progress” redux

Ineptitude reaches a deeper abyss. Actually, we have won 1 more game this year than last, but who is counting (certainly not coach Jed)?

3-23 (0-16)

That would be the record for this year’s women’s Volleyball team. Zero conference wins in 16 attempts. 0-38 in the last two seasons. Another feather in the cap for one, Lee Fowler.

You can find last year’s similarly titled entry here. The following is a little more information provided by Dan below the fold.

The match record doesn’t come close to showing how bad that program became under Fowler.

Volleyball matches are best of five games.

I think maybe we’ve won seven games total in ACC play. We are 7-60 in games. Last year they five total games (5-66). Two year combined 12-126. I believe there have been recent years without having won a single game of a best of five match in ACC play.

Its one thing to lose every match. Its another thing to not even be competitive. I’m not piling on the girls. The girls on the team deserve better. So does NC State. Its a matter of institutional pride.

WTNY: “Coach Stubbs is in her second year. I don’t follow the sport but my understanding is she is an upgrade in coaching. I think giving a coach more than 2 years is reasonable.”

Do we really know she is an “upgrade”?? How would we really know?…all we know is that the last person was horrible, and the current person has no head coaching experience prior to coming here. I understand it takes time to build a program, but sheeze, 0-38? As was noted above, volleyball is a best of five games. We haven’t taken a single ACC opponent to 5 games all season.

Q: “Please post Lee Fowler’s successess. What exactly is better now than when he came on board in regards to the success and performance improvement of NCSU Athletics?”

A1: “I don’t care if Fowler is axed, but I think most fans would say the current FB and BB coaches are much better than the guys on hand when Fowler was hired.”

Does anybody have anything else? Cedar?

    A2: Facilities

A3: the fortitude to stick to his guns when he knows a coach is GREAT

Facilities? Cedar, have you been to the swimming pool? It’s a f-ing joke! After years of Easterling dominating the ACC competition we are stuck with shitty little tiled pool and a Coach with no prospect.

  6. vtpackfan 11/08/2007 at 6:12 PM #

And can we get off the facilities issue? Both sides (pro Jed, anti Jed) need to just accept that they had to be built sometime. We had been on the cheap for so long that something had to done eventually. V had it all mapped out but it all got thrown out because athletics was scandalous and dirty according to the boards and trustees.

NC State and new facilities, it had to happen sometime. Even Afghanastan has paved roads now. Should we thank Bin Laden for calling it to our attention that they were stuck in the stone age? Give me a break.

I enjoy how some are quick to label NCSU fans as a “lunatic fringe” and lack the understanding of how well informed we actually are. Would you like to know how the current state of NCSU Volleyball can be linked directly to Fowler? I’ll tell you: We had a chance to hire one of the top assistants in college volleyball. Rod Wilde is currently at the University of Wisconsin and wanted the job at NCSU (which some could argue is a step down for him). He has exceptional credentials as well as contacts (check his Bio) far and away more than who was eventually hired. A current and top ACC coach claimed that Wilde would have been an upgrade to not only NCSU but the conference as well. Why would someone of such a high caliber and so well thought of consider the job…He has family in the area and wanted to be closer to them. To make it worse for Fowler, the search committee and current volleyball players all recommend Wilde, yet he went against their recommendations. If this isn’t an example of Fowler’s ineptitude I don’t know what is. His job is to oversee the wellbeing and success of all sports, not just two.

Again, a logical argument without consideration of all the facts. Do you know the salary expectations of Rod Wilde? or the budget NC State was working with and if the two matched? These items are part of the decision. We all jump to the simple answers, but life (and ther’s jobs) are probably a lot more complex.

Here’s one thing I believe. Non-revenue coaches at NC State will not be fired before the end of there contracts, which make good financial sense, although i may not agree with it.

  9. ccdc15 11/08/2007 at 8:19 PM #

That is an excellent question and I’m glad you brought it up. One of the most amazing “facts” is that he was willing to come here and coach for the salary that State was offering him! Please be careful when suggesting someone doesn’t have “all the facts”. I am not here suggesting the firing of the current volleyball coach. I’m just giving tangible examples of why some State fans are unhappy with Fowler’s lack of attention to non-revenue sports.

I can confirm what ccdc15 is saying as absolutely true.

My wife played vball at State and she was in on much of what he’s saying…

    A2: “Facilities”

Is this all we’ve got. As a group here at SFN, we have got to be some of the most knowlege folkd regarding NCSU Athletics as there is. If the above is ALL WE can come up with, then I would say the problems at the AD spot could be even worse than we think. I gave it a honest try last night, and I could not come up with anything else to add to list of Lee Fowlers success as it relates to performance. If the group of us can not come up with more than the above, we are in deep crap in the AD’s office.

Guess he fell into Sid & TOB. What about Larry Harris?

  13. primacyone 11/09/2007 at 4:42 PM #

What about Lee MF Fowler Cedar? Larry Harris is doing a bang up job and nobody’s complaining. I wish Lee Fowler was doing his job as well as Larry Harris is doing his! Larry Harris has been impressive.

Honestly and truthfully, are you really impressed with Lee’s performance?

What else would you ad to the list above? What has Lee done to impress you?
