Lowe: ‘NC State fans will be at their finest’

A subset of an entire new generation of NC State fans are going to get the opportunity to enjoy a taste of “the good old days” when NC State plays host to Marist on Friday night on Kay Yow Court in Reynolds Coliseum!!

Of course…the real question becomes – does NC State roll out a floor that includes the Men’s “Block S’ at half court or will the only option be the women’s version that includes the strutting wolf.

I am working hard to get to Raleigh tonight so that I can take my wife to her first (and probably last) experience in Reynolds. When I saw the comments that Coach Lowe shared on Thursday I immediately emailed them home so that she starts to understand that I don’t just make this stuff up!

“We wanted to get home, get a good day’s rest, and play in front of our crowd. I’m just glad they worked it out that we’ll be able to play at Reynolds. It’s sold out, it’s going to be loud… they have never been in an environment like they are going to be in tomorrow. I can almost guarantee you that. These NC State fans will be at their finest in Reynolds. It’s just a different atmosphere.”

Tartan? That floor is still there. The wood floor sits on top of it.

Trust me, if you value your knees and ankles, you won’t play basketball on tartan. It’s horrible. It has dead spots on it…so not only are there places where it’s like trying to dribble on sand, you can get hurt just running across it.

There are several conferences that have banned tartan floors completely.

Tartan, as it is called, provided a true home court advantage. The old parkay court in Boston was hardly a dream to play on but the Celtics loved to have the advantage of knowing the dead spots where the other teams didn’t.

What State players do you know of that have been damaged by that old floor? If it is so dangerous I’m sure there are any number of former State athletes you can point to that had suffered damage. That sounds more like something put out by the US Wood Industry or something.

It seems to me that after that floor was removed Les had 10 players or more suffer ankle injuries.

I hope that the crowd gives the team, staff and Sid a standing ovation tonight when they come out for warmups. IMO it would be very appropriate no matter the outcome of the game.

We’re on the road to Raleigh from VA. Can,t wait for tonight. Go Pack!

  5. packbackr04 03/16/2007 at 1:12 PM #

heard people are going to give the team an ovation after the game tonight, win or lose and i for one think it is very well deserved!

    GO PACK!

does anyone know if it is going to be on anything other than espnu?

Why a network doesn’t pick up the NIT is beyond me. Seems like a great way to piggyback on the NCAA tourney. Even if NBC, ABC or Fox don’t think they could turn a profit I’m sure CW or the My network could get more viewers with the NIT than a show like Smallville or America’s Next Top Model. It would also help them get there foot in the door to sports programing that every other network does.

I am stuck up north here with 5 inches of snow on the ground and no cable network that caries ESPNU. Does anyone know where on-line I can find a place to listen to the game? I would really like to here the Wolpack Sports Network as I try to stay warm tonight.

  10. tractor57 03/16/2007 at 2:45 PM #

I just gave in and upgraded my satellite package to include ESPNU. Wish I could be in Reynolds tonight but this will have to do.
    GO PACK!

    ^wirogers,

Just go stand outside. You should be able to hear it!

  12. tractor57 03/16/2007 at 2:58 PM #

    I’m watching ND vs. Winthrop – 52 / 34 Winthrop early 2 half.

Does anyone know where on-line I can find a place to listen to the game?

You can sign up for an account on Yahoo sports or through GoPack.com and can listen to radio broadcasts on-line.

Both require a payment via credit card.

  14. old13 03/16/2007 at 3:06 PM #

    Online listening:

    http://www.wwnc.com/pages/stream.html

I can usually get it here. But sometimes they cut off in mid-game for regular broadcasting.

I am desperately looking for a ticket – I was just at the end of the line for student tickets yesterday. If any one knows of a way I could get one, I’d appreciate it – email is [email protected], if you are feeling generous – of course, if it was me I wouldn’t give up my ticket. If I can’t find one before tonight I’ll probably go stand out in front of Reynolds and see if someone has an extra.

What about XM? Any idea if they’ll have it?

  17. Mr O 03/16/2007 at 3:27 PM #

Is there a more underachieving coach in the country than Paul Hewitt?

Obviously, this topic isn’t about coaches on the hotseat next year, but it will be interesting to see how much pressure Hewitt, Hamilton and Prosser face going into next season.

Hewitt is obviously a popular guy, but how many years of disappointment can GT fans stand until that popularity wears off?

Prosser probably needs a tourney bid at minimum next year. And Leonard Hamilton still hasn’t done anything at FSU.

XM hasn’t been carrying the ACC NCAA games, so they probably won’t have the NIT game. Wirogers, you can sign up for PackPass to hear Gary Hahn at gopack.com, but I’m not sure if that is audio only for tonite or video too. I really hope its video too, although I’m not holding my breath because they didn’t have video for the Drexel game.

  19. beowolf 03/16/2007 at 3:32 PM #

GT peaked in the second half against us.

  20. ShootingGuard 03/16/2007 at 3:42 PM #

Paul Hewitt is only good at a couple things—going to the pure hack attack and whining so the refs don’t call anything while his guys are mugging you.

He did it vs us this year. He has done it vs Duke a few times now. He did it vs Hansborough this year, though, admittedly, I enjoyed watch Hanny get hacked to pieces without many calls going his way…

“Just go stand outside. You should be able to hear it!”

I did that in 1984 as a 9th grader for the Van Halen show. I think that was the end of concerts at Reynolds for a long time.

  22. Gene 03/16/2007 at 3:58 PM #

I really hope its video too, although I’m not holding my breath because they didn’t have video for the Drexel game.

Might have video for a home game, since GoPack can set up camera’s in our joint, more easily than they could get permission to do it at the DAC.

  23. Andy 03/16/2007 at 4:16 PM #

They usually dont have video if the game is on ESPN or RLF

  24. choppack1 03/16/2007 at 4:31 PM #

shoot no game for me tonight – another cwappy day at work.

Cheer ’em on guys – tonight Reynolds. Enjoy basketball games as they once were – it’s days like these I really wish I lived in Raleighwood.
