    “I’m tired of MORAL VICTORIES.

I want a banner. No one remembers the also-rans.

…the best years I’ve witnessed as a Wolfpack fan are under Herb Sendek.”

Gene, you just had your post in the wrong order. Fixed it for ya. 🙂

“The only consolation I take from this loss is Wake Forest is fourth all time in ACC Tourney titles with four total. So we’re safely in 3rd place in that catagory.”

Let’s see now, after basically forfeiting the last 15+ years NC STATE is still THIRD in the number of ACCT titles by a looong damn shot. Sorry you guys spent your sexual primes in those miserable years, but I lived in a different time. Fortunately I’ve seen days like today before, and they weren’t hokey or flukes, we played people straight up and up on anyone’s level back then also.

Nobody can win them all. I am certainly not going to cry over living through a war with a far superior group of players and coming up a little short. Especially when we could walk away with dignity and our chins held high, knowing we pushed them to their limit.

NIT selection is at 9PM EST.

Good Luck Wolfpack. I need a trip to Madison Square Garden and so do you.

^Redfred – Les Robinson was able to win with V’s players. Sidney did a remarkable job with what he had to work with. I really think he’ll be able do do more with more weapons. I think he’s shown that X’s & O’s won’t be a problem for him. The run in the ACC clearly helps the visibility of the program and the prospects for recruiting.

That leads me back to recruiting and bringing in ACC caliber players consistently. I didn’t for one moment think that State was on par talent wise, especially 8-9 deep, with most of the ACC. That was compounded by inexperience. Valvano and Sloan recruited some really top notch players AND they were very good game coaches. It takes both to be a consistent top 5 finisher in the ACC.

Does anybody know when the team will be coming back?

Don’t rub it in old man. 🙂

I don’t expect to win them all. I just want to win ONE.

I’m not crying. I just needed to vent a little bit. Feel better now.

Now to wait and see if we’re in the NIT’s.

That was probably the most remarkable 4 days of basketball I have seen from any team in some time. I have nothing but praise for our kids and the job our coaching staff did. We played with heart. We played with passion. And, we played smart.

Carolina was simply too much for us today. Perhaps if we hadn’t had to play four straight days we would have had a much better shot. But I really felt UNC blew past us in that middle stretch and it was just a little too much to overcome. We fought back admirably, but Terry was clutch. Give UNC credit. They played very tough down the stretch and the did it mostly with freshmen and a sophomore. I think the RED and baby blue are in for a few more barn burners in the coming years. Boy is it going to be exciting.

I desperately hope our beloved Pack get an NIT bid. They certainly deserve it. Engin deserves one last shot if he can recover.

There are many aspects to recruiting beyond dragging down and claiming the best class of HIGH SCHOOL AGED kids in the nation. A 5 star recruit may mean two years in college, IF the coach plays and develops him, then he’s NBA bound. What people who have only experienced the last decade and a half can’t seem to comprehend is that there are coaches in place in Raleigh now who can take and develop raw talent. If they can spot it early enough even though it’s not the most well known, I will trust their judgement, and I won’t be sweating every signing period like I have in the past.

We were closer today then we’ve been in a long, long time. I agree it’s not enough though, but we just need to hold on a SHORT while longer.

    I certainly hope so.

I’d be more fired up if I hadn’t seen almost the exact same thing 10 years ago. NC State played a great tournament and gave UNC all it could handle only to come up short. 10 years ago as you watched that, you were sure “The pack was back.”

Well, I’m cursed w/ a good memory. There have been more times than I could think of in the last 10 years that I thought that we’d turned the proverbial corner.

I will say this much. This run was more impressive because we beat 3 NCAA tournament teams to reach the championship instead of 2. Also, picture us trying to make that run w/ a gimpy Justin Gainey…

The future does look bright. However, it’s looked bright a lot, and I, like so many others, am tired of moral victories. Here’s hoping that next year, we cut down those nets in Charlotte. I love the red blazer and the heart. I love the coach saying Friday night that we haven’t accomplished anything (or was that Saturday night.)

Here’s hoping that Costner and Grant are back in the red and white next year and that we aren’t thinking about what might have been on this same Sunday.

Talent development is crucial to any winning program. I think that Sidney and the coaching staff are conscious of the type of player they need to recruit. We are competing on the court with Duke and Carolina, so the next step is to compete with Duke and Carolina off the court. The recruits we have so far seem like good ones. The thing I like most about what the recruiting these guys are doing is the locality. I’m really sick of seeing the best players in NC goint to Texas or other places. Keep them here Sid, they will help you win, I promise!

  16. Rochester 03/11/2007 at 7:26 PM #

What Sid showed me this week makes me truly believe that we will win a tournament (or a couple) in the coming years. ACC, NCAA, both, who knows. He will not be outcoached. If he has the personnel he will win games. And judging by the recruiting class he’s got coming in, he will soon have the personnel.

I just had to make one of the saddest calls of the year. Called DirecTV to cancel my Mega March Madness package. For a couple of months now I figured we were a longshot, but I didn’t cancel it, figuring what the hell, maybe, maybe, maybe. Sigh. On the plus side I saved $69. But I’d trade that in a heartbeat. We’ll be back in the dance next year, I have no doubt.

Am I the only one who thinks Dean being on the NIT committee actually helps our chances of getting in?

  20. WolfPup35 03/11/2007 at 8:09 PM #

It is not actually possible for me to put into words the pride I feel to have class players who never quit, and a class coach that never quits. Hell of a run, boys! We shook up the ACC and made the nation hold it’s breath! We may be in the NIT, but at least we’re still playing and, who knows, we could end up with a rematch with Alabama or W. Va. Go ‘Pack, win it all!

  21. redfred2 03/11/2007 at 8:12 PM #

I know Dan doesn’t think I’m personally capable of it, but I am still going to bring up restraint, and expecting too much too soon. The past four days have been fantastic, but no reasonable person among us was “expecting” anything when it started.

We have great recruiting class coming in, and next season does look promising, but we were late in arriving on the recruiting scene though the staff did a remarkable job of picking up on what was still available to them. I believe the coaching staff will be able to get the most out of the talent they have now, along with that coming in, but it may(?) still take a while to elevate the entire program back up to consistently playing where it should be.

We’re already playing basketball like the WOLFPACK that I grew up loving though, and I can stick it out for a while longer until our time arrives.

The NIT show just started. I sure wish they’d put a 15 second time limit for the talking haircuts. Shut up, you don’t know what the hell you’re talking about!

These are the same kind of talking haircuts that said NC State would finish dead last in the ACC and be non-competitive!

  23. WolfPup35 03/11/2007 at 8:20 PM #

Great, we pulled Drexel! Would that be on the road?

  24. Astral Rain 03/11/2007 at 8:27 PM #

Yeah, they’re played at the higher seed. W.VA if it happens will be to go to NY
