Official Embarrassment Thread

To a man, it appears that the NC State Wolfpack forgot there was a basketball game scheduled for today. Just a hideous effort all around. Yes, the game isn’t over yet, and maybe a miracle finish will make me look silly – but I seriously doubt it.

Officially, this is the first truly inexplicable, embarrassing loss of the Lowe era.

5:40 – This classic “too little, too late” run just pisses me off more. Why couldn’t we try for the first 32 minutes? And can we please let someone else guard Harris?

5:44 – Go ahead and foul out, Gavin.

5:46 – Nice moron play from Ben.

5:47 – By all means, let’s keep fouling their only 2 decent FT shooters. What a suckfest.

5:50 – How can this get worse? Fells gets injured.

5:55 – Ferguson finally hits the rim! Oh, and Miami wins 80-65. Just awful.

dapackster: More heart? Are you freaking kidding me? Have you forgotten the Carolina game at the RBC last year?

  2. BJD95 02/10/2007 at 5:52 PM #

Forget the Sendek comparison. Focus on TODAY. The effort was inexcusable.

No possible way we’re in the Field of 65 now, even if we beat UNC again. Unless by some miracle we win the ACC Tourney. Were ganna have to play so much harder even to get an NIT birth. Absolutly ridiculous today. My neighbors little sister’s 9-10 year old rec team could out-rebound NC State.

  4. ktpritch 02/10/2007 at 6:08 PM #

that was bad – nice spurt in the middle of the 2nd half but that was it.

  5. Wulfpack 02/10/2007 at 6:11 PM #

I don’t know what in the hell this team drank since the Carolina game. That’s now 3 straight halves of the worst basketball I have seen from a Wolfpack team in recent memory. Don’t give me any of this crap on how Miami is talented. They are minus 5 and ruined us in the post. Miami’s offense consisted of driving the basket, throwing up some junk and getting the offensive rebound and either a bucket or a foul. If this team had the heart it showed against our arch rival, we would have taken care of business.

Lowe was severely out-coached today by Frank Haith. If both set of coaches had their horses, I doubt either would be sitting in the ACC cellar today. No matter what happens from here on out, that loss right there ends any NCAA speculation barring an ACC Tourney miracle.

“Herb’s teams played with more heart. ”

This line alone shows this posters agenda. He is to be ignored like the coach he adores.

  7. Rick 02/10/2007 at 6:16 PM #

As for the game, it was the first time we were outcoached and outplayed.
How we let them get so many offensive rebounds I have no idea.
Their speed hurt us but we should have been able to rule the block. I am still not sure what happened.

  8. coppertop 02/10/2007 at 6:17 PM #

Not a pretty outting all around for sure, I had hoped the post carolina game high now hangover was over but apparently not.
    Just wow.

that was a load of crap

I just gave up and kept on playing my wii.

I’m tired of hearing about Sendek for one thing. He couldnt beat Carolina or duke, the offense sucked, and sure we were ranked, but when you can’t beat one of the big two, you hit a wall and you’re going to make it to elite status. Sidney’s an alum, won a championship, and knows how to coach. He’s one of us. HE is who we have now, it’s not like we’re going to bring Herb back, so let it go.

Now, aside from that. The game today brought up a lot of concern for me. You guys are right about the heart part, we didnt have it, not even half of what we had against unc, a game of which i was on hand to see. I don’t know if Sidney needs to change something or what, but we can’t get up for unc and duke, and then play down to lower tier teams. Got to keep the same intensity every game. Again with rebounds, we outrebounded unc who was the best rebounding team in the ACC, and then turn around and Miami get 20+ offensive rebounds. This bothers me real bad.

  11. stateguy08 02/10/2007 at 6:42 PM #

*sorry, NOT going to make it to elite status^

  12. vtpackfan 02/10/2007 at 6:45 PM #

Let’s see, we’ve had a 30 plus TO game against Cincy, multiple game earlier in the year where teams shot lights out from behind the arc, a span of over eleven minutes where we couldn’t find the rim less put the ball in the basket against GT (during an 18-0 run), a now a game where they opposition gets more offensive rebounds then we make fg’s (we may have pulled ahead at the end, don’t know-don’t care)

And still I feel this team and Sidney Lowe have accomplished things with this team that outweigh the embarrassments I just mentioned. It may be I am too die hard a fan to see clearer beyond that, but hey, like Sid and Frank Haith I got to go with what I’ve got.

  13. vtpackfan 02/10/2007 at 6:52 PM #

Costner is starting to look like someone who will play alot of minutes at points next year and have his ass sat down for many in others. The best all around player we have is someone who on occassion doesn’t show up ready to compete. My only complaint about Lowe was not sitting Costner more in favor of Davis, or even going to a samller line up with Fells going against some of the bigs. Sidney Lowe is the man and the Coach, but I want to see some shake up out there once in awhile. Some Coachs seem so relunctant to try things without having the time to sit down and watch film and go over it. It was obvious that Costner was getting fried under the basket Sid, don’t wait until monday’s film session to look for potential way’s to change the tide.

BJD, there’s a reason why it’s called “posting during a loss.”

Like what another poster said after another embarrassing, have-they-forgot-how-to-play loss, Sidney’s biggest obstacle this year may be changing the culture.

As for DaPackster’s comments, they speak for themselves yet again.

At least he didn’t stoop to the name-calling for once.

  17. PapaJohn 02/10/2007 at 7:24 PM #

The CNN SI box score shows Big Lew playing and scoring a basket! I bailed on the game after it got too painful, but did he get in?? I thought he had redshirted.

  18. TNCSU 02/10/2007 at 7:28 PM #

Anyone notice L.F. in the stands??? Does he go to all away games? or only the ones in Miami Beach?? Looks like our team had too much fun last night — did Haith have a bunch of Miami Beach bombshells greet the plane at the airport?? Definitely doesn’t look like the guys were focused on basketball.

  19. Classof04 02/10/2007 at 7:30 PM #

I’m upset about the loss; did anybody comment on the playing time that Fergie got today? That was laughable. Anyway, this kind of thing is not getting to me – we’ve already out-played ourselves this year.

  20. TNCSU 02/10/2007 at 7:35 PM #

BTW, I’m not a L.F. basher, either. But after this performance, I’m thinking that this “away game” was treated more like a “road trip.”

Again, let’s focus on next year. We will definitely have to win some big games if we want to get to the NIT. Also, NO way you can tell me Hickson won’t start next year. We got abused on the boards!

That was an awful game. Total lack of effort and execution. Games like this, I’d really like to see what little bench we have.

This is Sid’s first inexcusable loss. We’ve underperformed in games vs. Clemson, Cincy, Duke and BC – but this was just ugly.

I can’t understand it – win this game and some special things still can happen. It didn’t look like we cared until it was too late.

Oh well, back to looking forward to next year.

  23. buttPACKer 02/10/2007 at 8:13 PM #

the way i see it, this season was a foregone conclusion. . . We had a couple of landmark games-for-the-books, and the rest–if any–are gravy.

This mindset has allowed me to keep my stress level manageable, and I have found the season to be much more palatable. . .

Even with incredibly uninspired performances such as today.

So, there it is. . .

  24. NCStateDud92 02/10/2007 at 8:58 PM #

” Let’s keep fouling their best FT shooters”

You have to, when they are the ones handling the ball. I am pissed to, but at least use logic.

  25. chilly water 02/10/2007 at 8:59 PM #

State will win the ACC Tourney, I repeat N.C State will win the ACC Tourney. I have that feeling, and I had the same feeling about the carolina game.
