Frank Haith Gets It (Updated with Video)

In case you missed it, Miami coach Frank Haith was ejected from this evening’s basketball game at Carolina following a 10 second sequence of no less than 3 bad (if not flagrantly) missed calls. It was nice to see a coach stand up for his team and declare that he was not going to turn the other cheek to the corrupt officiating that has infested our once great conference.

Thanks to the N&O for this blog entry. They have turned our attention to the following YouTube video from last night. We TOLD YOU that the ACC is going to hate the internets!! Folks, this is only the beginning of a revolution.

In the span of 28 seconds, this is what Karl Hess, Michael Kitts and Bob Donato missed:

• A goaltending on Brandan Wright
• A push on Tyler Hansbrough
• A dead ball call
• An insult-to-injury three-point play after the missed dead ball call
• A no-call on Hansbrough and defending Brian Asbury

Now, even with every call, Haith wasn’t going to win this game. Heck, Ol’ Roy, Psycho T and the three freshmen could all get bounced and Miami wasn’t going to win. That’s not the point.

There should be more consistency by the officials, regardless of location and regardless of which coach is on the sidelines. Clearly, that’s not the case here.

UVa probably has the 2 best guards in the conference. They will cause troubles for folks in the tourney.

I hope this is not a bloodless revolution…

Duke wne the last 8 adn a 1/2 minutes of last nights game without a field goal and it took a miracle shot by Singletary to win it.

How can you beat a team when they do not have to score to win? The refs just keep giving them FTs.

Well it’s groundhog Day. Chapel Hill reports sunny conditions and that Roy Williams did see his shadow. This of course means six more weeks of basketball,

Raleigh-Durham is overcast so no reports in on when Coach’s Mike or Sid have come out of their burrows yet.

“I know for a fact there were some “inquiries” about the officiating at the State-Duke game.”

They probably came from Duke, because we shot more free throws than them for once.

Actually Rick – I thought that UVa was allowed to play very physical against Duke. They were doing lots of pushing and hanchecking too. I actually thought that the refs called it fairly evenly.

Duke lead 59 – 51 with 3:40 left in regulation. They took and made 2 foul shots in the remainder of regulation and ended up with 61 points. UVA was 6 for 6 in foul shots during the same period. In the overtime, Duke was 5 for 6 in foul shots and UVA was 3 for 4.

Total foul shots taken in the last 8:40 of the game that started with Duke holding an 8 point lead:

    Duke – 8

    UVA – 10.

I didn’t notice any egregious calls during this period.

I think between the blogs, the N&O, and signs during the game along with coaches complaining and getting T’s that some folks in the league office (while they would never admit it publically) may be starting to get the message. If they are not they are oblivious.

I will recant my statement as I have been proven wrong.

    Bullshit everybody.

If you’ve been around long enough, you know the ACC league office allows a token 2 or 3 games per season like last night, where the officiating is actually very even handed. Hell, I’ve often wondered if Mike Krzyzewski doesn’t orchestrate the whole thing to toughen his team up and prepare them to face some adversity. Make no mistake, however, these occasions are FEW and FAR between.

Everyone in the league needs to realize that unless you’re wearing blue you might as well go ahead and grab your ankles and prepare for the worst. It’s been that way since the beginning of time and it isn’t going to change anytime soon.

To beat either of the blue bellies you have to be prepared to play well enough to beat 5 on 8. Because it’s going to happen as sure as the sun rises in the east.
