(Trout should love this one)
By now, you probably know how much SFN appreciates a great coaching job and values the impact of coaching on a program. We are firm believers that every person maintains within themselves individual skills and characteristics that create unique impacts on games, seasons, and programs. We found this article focusing on the immediate impact of Tim Floyd at USC to be worth sharing.
Floyd wasn’t aware of the fact that the coaching staff avoided showing recruits their home arena because it was embarrassing. They used to make up stories that there was a tractor pull, a rodeo or even that Disney on Ice was calling the L.A. Sports Arena home on that particular night.
Floyd also didn’t realize that the coaches’ locker room was about the size of a pantry. Or that the team didn’t even have a legitimate practice court and had to share a film room with various other sports.
Times have changed — and much quicker than anticipated for Floyd and the Trojans.
They play in the gorgeous new $147 million Galen Center, which opened this season, and Floyd has taken a last-place team and turned it into an instant contender in the Pac-10.
(^I’m flabbergasted by how Floyd has been able to translate his new arena into immediate success while many NC State supporters claimed that it ‘should’ take years for the ESA/RBC to help our program. But, we all know what was really going on with that excuse making.)
We’re not very big fans of the author of the article, Jeff Goodman. Despite the fact that his name is listed on Pack Pride’s website as a former author for the site, Goodman has been publicly critical of NC State fans in the past. He also seems to have a love affair with Herb Sendek that is similar to that of Gregg Dickhead of CBS Sportsline. In a recent piece in recent piece about the greatness of Pac-1o basketball Goodman said the following:
Oregon State (RPI, No. 259) and Arizona State (304) are the only teams outside of the Top 80 in the RPI, but that won’t last long in Tempe.
Look for the Sun Devils to be much-improved in the next year or two now that Herb Sendek has taken over for Rob Evans.
So, excuse us for being surprised when Goodman omited future power, Arizona State, when he was discussing the future of the top of the Pac-1o in this most recent article.
It’s going to be scary when Floyd is able to match up talent-wise with the likes of Arizona and UCLA.
