My seats are in Section 14 — right next to the student seating. I saw none of this. However, NCSU does have a major problem with student seating. There are ALWAYS more students looking for a seat that there are seats. They have these pieces of paper with no fixed seat and for almost 1/2 of the first quarter they are coming up the steps looking for seats. When I leave my lifetime seat to make nature’s call in the proper place downstairs, inevtitably they try to sit in our seats (until we get back). I put up with this because the game is more for the students and they are great fans.

However, NCSU has a bigger problem.
One — even if this is not true, it makes up look bad.

Two — Surely the geniuses in the ticket office can give seats to students with seat numbers assigned and end that frustration for them (and everyone else in Section 14). Get your act together WPC.

Three — Where are the Kampus Kops? Where are the students not turning this in? A presence by security would go a long long way.

Maybe installing Portapotty Skyboxes is the next WPC Fundrasier. I can just see it now — a box seat for everyone with our donors names on them. I could probably afford that.

(Insert picture of Peeing Calvin with WPC below?)

Anyone out there with deadspin commenting rights, please post CG’s comment from yesterday, or something along the lines of ‘better than the semen-staining bleachers of UNC’s Kenan Stadium’

    cfpack03,

That was clever. It made us all angry in Chapel Hill.

Committee lowers seat on overflowing bowl
    by Kyle Blakely in News

A committee of representatives from across the University revealed yesterday that Athletics will no longer assign sections online for student tickets prior to football games.

Starting Oct. 5 at the Florida State football game, event staff will assign sections to students contingent upon the time students (piss) pass through the gate.

  6. RAWFS 09/28/2006 at 3:22 PM #

So students will now have first-come, first-served game day seating?

    GREAT solution.

Just stamp “Section Pee” on all tickets. And pass out Depends Adult Diapers.

Making up as they go along aren’t they?

  8. BoKnowsNCS71 09/28/2006 at 3:40 PM #

Yeah the Student Body was really pissed off. The technician had a rant about the decision. Screws up their tailgating and really a watered down solution. Now they are getting pissed on. Guess they will have to go with the flow or shake things up. Maybe they’ll get their hands around the situation eventually and get their heads in the game and not in the popcorn cups.

I think this solution also came from the Tailgate rule maker. Brilliant! 2 for 2.

    That one is classic BoKnows!

I understand that students had a real problem with the lottery system when I was in school, and that the online system is more efficient. I also remember, however, that when I was in school (when we had a lottery and assigned seats, and it was the Phillip Rivers years, and even more students were even more into getting tickets than now) we never had a problem with over-crowding, and therefore, never had a problem with public urination.

It’s not the WPC that are creating these problems, it’s actually a board of STUDENTS and faculty that create the ticketing policy. They probably just need to forget about the distribution’s EFFICIENCY and start remembering how EFFECTIVE it used to be!

    (of course…i was also able to go tailgate a 7:30 a.m. for a 7:30 p.m. game…ahhhhh…nostalgia)

I don’t get this whole thing. I have a son who is a Junior and in the past he’s gone with the Turlington block seating and there always seemed to be plenty of room when I went to check on him (I know, I know, he moved to Bragaw while they renovate). Now there isn’t enough room?!
Oh well, a grassy bank had it’s usefulness I guess!
If the purpose is to see the game then these students need to come upstairs and get in the corners where there are always seats. If the issue is to see and be seen then my only suggestion is that they wear something that they don’t care if someone goes to the bathroom on it!

“or something along the lines of ‘better than the semen-staining bleachers of UNC’s Kenan Stadium’”

I think they are going to rename Kenan with a name similar to Tennessee’s stadium.

    Kneelin’

this is insane…. last year’s problems seemed to be fixed after the VaTech game… I went to a couple games last year in the Student section. FirstComeFirstServe is just asking for problems. idiots….

USC’s student newspaper is “The Daily Trojan.” Gotta love their optimism!

Is there a pattern of overreacting?

When some attendees (non-students/non-alumni) in a parking lot (on the State of NC State Fairgrounds) not part of Carter Finley got into a fight and shootout, the leaders at State came up with a tailgating rule that:
    1) has no relationship to the events that happened, 2
    2) does not prevent a recurrance of the same type events (which occur everywhere even in high schools) and
    3) generally ruins the game day experience for everyone else.

When some students trying to see their home team are forced into a stupid ticketing system that creates problems and then a few (if any) students act improperly, they leaders at state create a stupider system and generally ruin it for all the students.

I pray to God that nothing ever happens between fans of the WP and an opponent in the stadium because based on the thought process by these leaders — they would next ban all the home fans and permit only the away team and non-alumni/non-students to attend.

This ain’t rocket science. The solution isn’t more rules. It’s providing what the leaders should have been doing all along (and continuously fail to do) and that is simply to provide more security. The police only came up to Section 15 – ONE TIME — during the game — and did nothing.

So rather than keep screwing everyone up, the leaders ought to put a few more feet on the ground and a few more eyes in place and in time this will all get fixed.

^ This is what we get when the Good Ole Boys ran Mary Anne Fox off.

Seriously, they are, have been and always will be bureaucratic hacks that forget they are there FOR the students of NC State, not IN SPITE of them.

Dr. Tom Stafford’s comment that it was pleasing to him that tailgating will be reduced so that kids can wait in line just shows that HE NEEDS TO GO.

  19. tcthdi-tgsf-twhwtnc 09/29/2006 at 12:31 PM #

Why not assign seats? That seems to work for everyone else that goes to the game.

Maybe they can ask to students to buy rights to get season tickets. When they come to freshman orientation they will be provided with the privilege to spend $500 for the right to buy season tickets for the next four years. They will then be placed on a list for the right to buy tickets provided they make a $100 annual contribution to the WPC. If at any time the the student does anything stupid while attending the Office of Student Affairs can remove that student’s privilege without refund.

I would feel awful if this happened now.

I was listening to Jim Roam yesterday and he made some comment about needing to wear diapers at N.C. State games and I didn’t know what he was talking about (at first I thought he was making some comment about the fans being babies). Why is it the only national press we ever get is the negative type?

  24. supersalo 10/06/2006 at 10:45 AM #

BoKnowsNCS71: Overreacting? I don’t think so. Tailgating has “no relationship to the events that happened”? Sure it does. Ever heard of beer? Tailgaters get drunk, then get shot.

And exactly how would more security stop students from pissing in the stands? Instead of blaming others, try blaming the classless kids who decided that they could just take a piss wherever they felt like it.
