One thing any new coach should realize coming in is that the fan base at State expects to compete for a national championship. That is another good part of the way this played out.

Nice job SFN. ESPN has not even posted it yet.

I have been a big critic of Herb, but will recognize his integrity and intelligence. He made the right choice to move on.

Now we can get down to business and get State hoops back on the same footing with our cherished neighbors.

Lets just hope Fowler doesn’t f__ it up.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHO))))))))))) The State Nation is free and my alma mater dodges a bullet. Here’s hoping that OU and NC State both make great hires in the coming weeks!

  4. Roy 04/01/2006 at 8:44 PM #

    Say bye to Chris Wright.

  5. PackisBack 04/01/2006 at 8:48 PM #

True — we need to thank Herb for the hard work and dedication over the 10 years of service. He will do well at Arizona St and should be a presence in the Pac 10.

For State, this was needed step for the program.

    WOOOO-HOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Take that Kennel!

    Say bye to Chris Wright.

    How will we ever survive?

  8. Mr. Duff 04/01/2006 at 8:51 PM #

Chris Wright, if we get a very very good coach, i.e. Nate McMillan or Larry Brown, he might change his mind. If we hire a good up and coming coach, like Derreck Whittenburg, he may follow Herb or go to Villanova. At any rate, I’m not losing sleep over one recruit. Herb’s done a good job at NCSU. The cupboard is not bare. There’s a lot to build on.

Whoever the new coach may be they derserve the ENTIRE support of Wolfpack nation. Everything that is required to be a successful basketball program is in place.

  10. Rodge 04/01/2006 at 8:53 PM #

    Yes!!!

Maybe we’ll finally be able to beat Carolina, Duke, and Wake every now and then.

Bring on Nate or… is Nolan Richardson available???

  11. blpack 04/01/2006 at 8:54 PM #

Amen! Now on to part 2 of the equation. Think Big.

  12. TPack 04/01/2006 at 8:56 PM #

I don’t think Chris Wright will go elsewhere.

Congrats to SFN. You beat everyone, and damn, ESPN doesn’t have it and FSN didn’t till like 5 minutes ago.

Now who do we bring in?

  13. vtpackfan 04/01/2006 at 8:56 PM #

Anything said by “Team Sendek” or the Dickie V’s of the basketball world goes as far as the next coach. If he comes in with a winning attitude and willingness to be the best by beating the best, even if it means falling on your face once in awhile, then everything about this past decade of Wolfpack basketball will be put into perspective. I think Tommy Burelson deserves some credit, and good luck in Tempe Herb.

Even if Chris Wright will leave, which I doubt, Nate’s son is rumored to be commiting to us. I have it in a Wolfpacker mag/newspaper thing I have sitting around here somewhere. He said we are his favorite.

Well, I had my criticisms of the guy’s coaching ability- but he did leave the program in good shape talent-wise, and he did run things clean, which is important.

I hope the best for Sendek out west- unless he plays us in the NCAA tourney… Of course, part of the problem is I don’t exactly trust the guy who’s going to hire the next coach.

Can I throw the name Adam Kennedy into the mix?

We may lose Chris Wright, but I wasn’t too excited about any recruits as long as HS was here. This is just sooooo absolutely wonderful!!!! Now that he’s gone, I honestly do wish Herb well. But even if somehow he has the extreme good fortune of putting together an NCAA champ at ASU in a few years, as highly unlikely as that might be, I’ll never ever regret seeing him move on. Would love to see Barnes or Calipari.

This has got to be someone’s April Fools joke.

  18. WolfInVolCountry 04/01/2006 at 9:11 PM #

VT, I think that you are right. Tommy’s recent coments (this week) may have contributed much to making this happen.

Pretty courageous if you ask me.

I can’t believe you guys would even mention Larry Brown. I wouldn’t want him as a UNC coach and he’s one of “us”………..
Good luck, I hope the next coach brings the same integrity to NC State as Herb. I know you want a better coach who can compete with K and Roy. I hope so as well, it’ll be a lot more fun!

For no reason should anyone here even think Larry Brown…two colleges and two severe NCAA probations. It’s good to be excited about the next NCSU coach but think clearly. Nate would be a good choice as would L. Romer of UW. It’s ok to take a shot at Calipari or Barnes but be willing to look around the country and think optside the typical coaching box. Right now I am so happy I am even looking forward to football season…let this mark the beginning of the return of NCSU athletics to the position of greatness that it once occupied!

The tarheel reaction is understandably funny. My favorite “they’re crazy if they think they can do better than Herb” post is this:

*Dear NCSU, Thank you for kicking out Sendek and showing your true colors as fans. Apparently, 3rd in conference and an NCAA bid with that ragtag bunch of stiffs, miscrients, and mediocre basketball players was not enough to satisfy you.*

Thanks for making the case for us. We should expect more after ten years than a team full of “stiffs, miscre[a]nts and mediocre basketball players. Oh, and you got some drool there on your Wal-Mart shirt.

Awesome job by StateFansNation on this, BTW. Awesome job.

“Thank you for kicking out Sendek and showing your true colors as fans”

Who was that coach at Carolina a few years back that got run out of town by COLLEGE PLAYERS?
