    I’d split the difference. They should win by about three touchdowns.

    BC only ran for 56 yds total, and Ryan threw 2 INT’s. Not that it may matter, but it sure could. Especially since there’s film now. Ryan didn’t exactly tear it up last year in Raleigh. Call me a dumb believer, but i have a feeling State will keep it closer.

    35-17. Revenge, Home field, experience where it counts most. Too much field time for our D comes across in the 4th quarter. We’ll see who our players are though. Particularly Beck.

    Rochester: Ryan threw two pics for touchdowns, actually. I believe our DB’s will be too busy flapping their arms to worry with using them to catch a football.

    I may be overly optimistic, as per usual, but I’d almost compare this start to Sidney Lowe’s start in BB last season. Admittedly Lowe came out better in his first game by squeaking out a win over a hot shooting Wofford BB team, whereas TOB took his lumps in a close loss to a pretty fair program on Saturday. The shear volume of players makes it’s a harder task to accomplish in football no doubt, especially when absolutely essential areas have been basically denied and overlooked by those before him, just like what Sidney Lowe’s inherited in his basketball debut. But we shall see if TOB can take a limited cupboard and do similar to what his basketball counterpart did, by getting the very most out of a very lopsided and shallow pool of football talent.

    It would be a miracle for sure, but I’m not writing them off just yet.

    Personally, I’ll be content if we only lose by 3 TD’s. I think right now our only hope is the “curse of the old coach” keeping us in it much like Amato could do with FSU. Hope I’m wrong, but I don’t see a reason to think otherwise right now. BC’s QB is not going to miss those passes, so unless coverage really improves I expect a high scoring game against us.

    Our best hope, Beck starts and lights up the night with passes and this is a game where both teams are scoring in the 40’s. Based on past history, scoring in the 30’s would be amazing.

    Sidney Lowe took over a team that had been to the NCAA tournament several years in a row.

    TOB is taking over a team that was 3-9 last year and had been trending downward since 2003.

    It’s completely unfair to compare the two.

    As long as it looks like progress is being made, the score won’t bother me too much. At least I’ve had Wisconsin to fall back on last year and this; so the football season won’t be a complete wash (Until Wisconsin’s annual WTF? game). At some point it would be nice to see both teams playing well at the same time though (rare occurence).

    Noah- at least TOB inherited more than a couple players that saw significant playing time.

    An early season game for a new coaching staff is basically indicative of the holes left from the previous staff and the halftime adjustments. A 14 point spread for the BC game is probably pretty accurate but we hired TOB for his ability to improve the situation. Am I disappointed with the results from the last game – yes. Am I discouraged – no. I saw excellent progress with the halftime adjustments – problems remain there is no doubt but to quote an old song “The future is so bright, I gotta wear shades” – maybe not this year but it is coming.

    We’ve lost 8 straight games by a total of 48 points. In only one of those losses did we lose by more than 13.5 points. The line seems about right to me but if you are that positive we are going to lose by at least 3 touchdowns, take out a second mortgage on your home and take in some free money.

    The only reason we were not down 50 in the first half was that UCF’s QB made some bad throws and receivers dropped the balls. There was no one — no one — around their guys. And when we hit them we were coming in late. And when they juked – we over-reacted and they got by us. If the defense can settle down – things might be better. But Louisville could drop 70 on us if we played like this.

    Wait, didn’t I just read a comparison of the two?

    I think it was you who said that every game in FB was important, something about how it related to gambling and that’s what really makes all sports popular. You also mentioned that a BB team in comparison, can take a few nights off because of the length of the schedule and still be in the mix for a playoff/tournament spot. That my friend, is exactly what happened to allow the over glorified “five in a row” that you just mentioned. Surely you don’t mean that you think the basketball team was bursting at the seams with well balanced talent either? I’m fairly certain that I have an earlier recollection of something stating just exactly the opposite, but there’s no need to bring that up again. Overall, the football team may be in worse shape because of fundamental weaknesses, but it isn’t totally without some good talent in spots also.

    If you’re right, then I’m wrong, and we’re both at 50 percent in the prognostication column.

    I say it may, or may not, lead to winning more football games this season, but TOB will engineer a turnaround on the football field this season.

    Um noah, please don’t make me type your famed BB quote you again. There is a definite comparison in the uneven talent level.

    Hey Dr. BP, I can one up you…my MBA is from App State so at least there’s one team I can feel good about!lol

    All that being said, it is truly a shame that the last 3 seasons have conditioned us to ‘expect the worst’ from the Pack. Reading this blog I’d think that there hadn’t been anything new happening in Raleigh since last November!
    TOB demonstrated that he can change his GP on the fly, no reason to think that he can’t do the same with the season (which was one of the problems of the past).

    First love – NC State – just glad I live in SEC country.
    BS from App – I was still high from seeing us with the national Champtionship, and then this win.
    MA/PhD from Mississippi – we held on against Memphis, thank goodness – loosing to UMem always means bad things for the Rebs season. But Ole Miss we learn that if we can’t win every game, we can and will win every party.

    BC looked sold out for the Wake game – were they loud as well? From what ya’ll are saying about our pass defense, the Louisville game could be really scary.

    I’m afraid thescore this week may be something like 35-14 in BC’s favor. I just do not have enough confidence in our QB situation or in the fact that we did not start blitzing until the second half of the UCF game.
