Wolfpack Football Fans Continue to Impress

It is always nice when numbers support what everyone innately knows to be true.

In 2004, NC State struggled on the gridiron with a 5-6 overall record. During the disappointing year, NC State fans proved the level of their amazing support by LEADING THE COUNTRY in football attendance as a percentage of capacity! The numbers are in for last season, and the Wolfpack still ranks in the country’s Top 5 you can only put as many fans in the stands as can buy tickets. 2005: #5 with 103% at 52,925
2004: #1 with 109% at 56,200
2003: #5 with 103% at 53,274
2002: #23 with 96% at 49,477
2001: #24 with 96% at 49,254
2000: #34 with 91% at 46,787

NC State’s season ticket commitments for this season currently stand around 40,000. Almost every ticket requires an additional financial commitment through the need of Lifetime Rights that are required simply to be able to buy a season ticket. By contrast, our neighbors over in Chapel Hill are touting that “excitement is back” with Carolina football whose season ticket sales are “somewhere between 29,000 and 30,000.”

Football excitement is back at North Carolina following noticeable on the field improvement, key staff hires and retainment, and subsequent recruiting classes of national notoriety. And though season ticket sales are going at about the same pace as last season, UNC officials expect individual sales to increase with an extended home slate in 2006.

“I think we’re probably going to end up somewhere between 29,000 and 30,000 [season] tickets sold,� said Director of Ticket Operations Clint Gwaltney, a former Tar Heels’ kicker and the school’s seventh all-time leading scorer. “I think there is a lot of excitement. Our sales are still on about as steady of a pace as they were last year.�

    I think the Tarholes just want to watch Coach B standing out there at the end of the game, cap over his heart singing the alma mater, looking pitiful…that’s excitement.

    Is there a coach anywhere out there who couldn’t sell that fan loyalty and all out enthusiam to recruits?

    Not a huge fan of Bunting or their PR machine, but he has made some good hires recently that seem to be paying off on the recruiting trail. Hopefully, these guys will leave for greener pastures soon.

    When did the Lifetime Rights go into effect? Is that when the percentage of the stadium filled numbers jumped?

    I want to say the LTRs went into affect around the time of the RBC opening up. So, late 1999?

    I would say the percentages jump because of Chuck’s first year.

    The percentages go up for the 2003 season, which if after Chuck’s third year, the 11-3 Gator Bowl season. People bought into Chuck, bought the LTRs and now are stuck buying tickets for a not-so-good team – or they lose their LTR investment.

    I hate to say it, but I am afeared that the heels might just be improving their football program at a pretty fair clip. That would just about be the final straw for a total overthrow from the top level on down. The coaches can stick around, I am talking about anybody who has had even the slightest decision making ability involving athletics for the past nine years.

    Comparing ’05 to ’04:

    2005: #5 with 103% at 52925
    2004: #1 with 109% at 56,200

    The difference? Middle Tennessee State. Remember, that game was NOT in the season ticket package. I think our attendance for that game was around 37,000. If it is included in the season ticket pacakge, there are at least 48k-50k there.

    And btw, that number will most likely DROP below 100% for 2006. We wont have temporary bleachers anymore, and that is how we were able to go over 100% in the previous years. The official stadium capacity will be around 60k, instead of 51,500.

    I guess I’m a bit confused about why the linked PDF lists the Pack at #42 with 92.72% but we are talking about being #5 with 103% here?
