Simmons in Mock Drafts (Updated)

Cedric Simmons stock in the NBA draft has risen so much that the big guy has now been invited to Wednesday’s draft in New York, an honor reserved only for the cream of the crop prospects.

Similarly, Sports Illustrated ran two mock NBA drafts with Cedric Simmons projected:

* as the #10 pick heading to the Seattle Supersonics, and

* as the #12 pick heading to the New Orleans Hornets

Pretty awesome stuff!

    Enjoyed having him on the bench, I mean team, for a year or two there.

    I’m getting sick of the “Herb Sendek is a great coach” quotes from other coaches (like Roy Williams). If he’s so freakin’ great, I think the talent on the team would have shown through a little more.
    For Simmons, this is awesome. And it doesn’t surprise me. The dude can play.

    Just shows how wasted big Ced was in Herb’s f*** up system. Sure would’ve been fun to see what he could do playing for Sid, but I’m happy for him anyway.

    May be the best player we never played.

    Sat on the bench 1 year and not used to full potential the next. What a shame.

    I think the lack of play as a freshman and the lack of continued improvement in the second half of his soph. season shows that talent was not being used properly. Lets hope things change under SL and I think they will.

    when the 3″s aren’t going in? Ced is not just and average player. Where is plan B?”

    I agree with all comments regarding Ced and hope he can enjoy a successful career in the NBA. I really like this guy. He’s got a huge upside and is going to make a franchise VERY happy. Way to go CED!

    I could add lots more names than just those two, who would and should have been solid contributors that year. Bennerman especially, Etimov was about as skilled with the mental aspects, court awareness and passing, coming straight out of high school as you will find these days. Not to mention the guys like Levi Watkins and Jordan Collins who were pretty highly sought after coming out of HS, but just didn’t ever get a chance to do anything. Now we have the seldom seen talents of Gavin Grant playing as a junior this year, that’s hard to believe.

    The only thing I will never, and I mean never ever, be able to comprehend is how Herb Sendek continually convinced some solid talent to come to NCSU in the first place. How he was able to continue to recruit at any level without improving any players after they arrived, that will boggle my mind from here to eternity.

    I think I may have stated before, but this topic kinda chaps my hide.

    I’m just wondering if somehow this single thread will finally end those post questioning my intelligence for the inability to comprehend the absolute genius, that was Herbert Sendek, in his decade at NC State.

    ^ Haha, nice try. While I agree he certainly has his faults, the guy worked his tail off in getting NCSU basketball back in the game. He’s a top-notch coach that will do great things in his career. As I said, there are many things I would change about him, and I’m certain he now knows those and will seek to change. But I truly appreciate what he did for our program — that’s not a lie. I may have not been conscious of the Valvano years, but the program is now light years ahead of the garbage I saw with Les Robinson. Thank you, Mr. Sendek for restoring a sense of pride. The best of luck with the Sun Devils. Hello, Sidney Lowe. Let’s go kick some a**.

All we know for certain is that Herb has changed jobs, but that he will seek to change something about himself? That’s his one big downfall. When Big Ced’ went for 26 in Carmeron against the #1 ranked school in the nation, Herb got the team together the next day and stressed the importance of running his offense, I’m sure of it. It had worked against inferior ACC teams, the Citadel, ND, and GW so that was proof enough. Ced will be a big time force for a team in the NBA, at the very leave a key role player, like Theo Ratliffe, for years to come. He’s the one who will change, there is a huge upside, we saw how hard it was for Herb to change as a coach. He had to change his environment but it will not lead to any upside in terms of success, we have seen all that he was capable off.

    Seattle is believed to be enamored with Duke All-American forward Shelden Williams, but he’s not going be around when they select. North Carolina State’s Cedric Simmons, however, might be the next-best option, and Connecticut’s Hilton Armstrong is an alternative.

    Wulf, Hook, line, and sinker, you are consistently predictable. I was counting on you to be the first to jump all over my last post. You are a die-hard HSSS’er and if this thread doesn’t convince of anything, nothing will.

    All I am going to say is that you are a good fan, a little misguided, but consistent anyway. You have had absolutely nothing to cheer about in your short time frame when compared to what I have known as a Wolfpack fan in my lifetime. What may have seemed like major strides to you during Sendek’s decade, was not even a crawl when you look at where we need and expect to be.

    Herb is done. Sidney Lowe and company will quickly over shadow any of his slight accomplishments in short order, and you will be left to scratch your head trying to come up the reasons why it couldn’t have been that way long before now.

    And if I know you, you will come up with many.

    I don’t doubt it and hope we all can experience the magic of ’83 again soon. I supported Herb through and through and will do the same with Sid. A divided fan base makes us all look like fools.

    I wish Ced the best but I think his decision to leave after his sophomore year is a mistake. If he had stayed we would have been just as competitive this year as in the 05/06 season. With an up tempo offense and talents like Costner, Fells, McCauley, Brackman, Ingin, and Grant still on the roster. He had nothing to fear about our chances for 06/07. Like Sidney Lowe said, why leave now when you could be a sure thing lottery pick later? Anyways, best of luck Ced.

    You’re right, he may have had one hell of a season, but now that he has an opportunity to show what he can really do, there is no doubting the decision to go. It’s just too bad he couldn’t have struck a little fear in the hearts of ACC foes for at least one year.

    In the “ACC in NBA draft” thread that SFN provided I just thought it was kinda strange that if you look to the right on Glenn’s article, at the ACC recruiting classes in a column dated 6/21/06, Davis and Werner were still listed as incoming freshmen for the 2006 class.

    I’m just wondering if there has been a single comment coming out Tempe on Cedric Simmon’s new found abilities, or is the dead silence considered as another one of the many “class acts” that I was subjected to before.

    ^^It is 110 degrees in Tempe today, much too hot to do anything much less comment on Ced- It may cool down to 100 overnight. We’ll just have to wait and see how the coach handles that kind of heat.

    I think Simmons is making the right move to go pro. I wish he was staying, but after what he’s shown it’s obvious he has what it takes to find a place in the NBA. I don’t know if his stock would have gone up (and it might have gone down, depending and who will be turning pro next year) if he had stayed another year. It’s gonna hurt without him on the court this season though.
