Simmons in Mock Drafts (Updated)

Cedric Simmons stock in the NBA draft has risen so much that the big guy has now been invited to Wednesday’s draft in New York, an honor reserved only for the cream of the crop prospects.

Similarly, Sports Illustrated ran two mock NBA drafts with Cedric Simmons projected:

* as the #10 pick heading to the Seattle Supersonics, and

* as the #12 pick heading to the New Orleans Hornets

Pretty awesome stuff!

We have included links to man other mock drafts and links in the comments section of this entry.

Relatedly, we shared the following in this entry from earlier in the week:

We’ve talked about Cedric Simmons and the impact of his departure on next year’s version of the NC State basketball program. Simmons has continued to climb the draft projections and recently was ranked as the #20th best athlete in this year’s NBA Draft.

Let’s use this entry to track any Cedric-related conversations this week as the NBA draft approaches. Please feel free to share with others when you run across anything on the internet.

If someone picks up Diaz as far down as #29 it’s a steal. He should light it up in the NBA.

Cedric is a high draft pick because of potential.

Cedric didn’t even average 20 pts per game as a HS senior against in a low classification of NC high school basketball. He didn’t start playing basketball until he was a 7th grader.

Cedric wasn’t ready to be a big contributor as a freshman at NC State. Cedric being a high draft pick doesn’t prove anything as far as “underachieving” the last two years.

Awesome. I heard Jay Bias (no disrespect to the aforementioned late- great Lenny Bias) bad mouth Toronto for toying with the idea of going after the Italian center with the #1 pick. Bilas said the Cal center (the one Ced wrecked) would make more sense. Draft previews are the best on ESPN when all the college experts sit around with guys who cover the NBA and actually played in the NBA. They should run a new comercial at Disney with Dee Brown and Greg Anthony picking all the seven Dwarfs and then the last guy has to pick between Gottleib and Bilas.

    Mr O

Maybe Simmons had a terrible coach in High School also. Someone with talent will take it from here.

    PLEASE give it up!!!

I agree that he didn’t underacheive. I do disagree that he wasn’t ready to contribut more as a freshman. I thought he should have been used more than he was his freshman year. However, I don’t think there’s much to complain about regarding his minutes and role in the offense his sophomore year.

Potentially a big day for Pack fans – Simmons a potential top 10 pick and SI’s Stewart Mandel naming Amato the worst football coach in all the land…
