TSN – Calipari is the Focus

See this link to DeCourcy’s thoughts. I don’t know about you – and this is just my personal speculation – but that certainly sounds like “one or two days needed to finalize a contract, or negotiate the last few hurdles to a deal.” John Calipari sure as hell isn’t going to “interview” here and be turned down. That’s not to say Calipari still couldn’t turn us down, and pull out before the “interview.”

Let’s hope good news is around the corner!

Agreed. I thought the “interview in 24-48 hours” seemed odd.

Still, I can’t wait to add Calipari’s scalp to my collection, right along side V’s. (facetious)

Maybe Cal is waiting till his players get back from the weekend.

So what are the statefansnation sources saying now that the Calipari news has broken and the Barnes raise has broken? Will their be another update tonight? Also I heard Gillispie doesn’t meet the coaching requirements to coach here since he has only coached at a ncaa division 1 school for 2 years and the minimum for the job is 5.

This is a roller coaster befitting a book.

    Hope someone will publish it.

“In just three years as a college head coach, Billy Gillispie has made history.”

This is what the first sentence is on his profile from the A&M site. Link is below.

    Let’s seal this deal.

I can’t believe someone has the name “Mickey McCarthy.” The real Mickey McCarthy is dead, I think – and if so he’s rightfully spinning and toasting in the deepest, hottest pits of hell.

Please let us get Calipari. Please please please.

C’mon Cal, ya gotta ya just gotta!

One great thing about Johnny C amongst the many. He will play ANYBODY. No more glorified scrimmage OOC’s.

I haven’t heard any new rumblings yet. Perhaps one of the other bloggers has, and will post an update tonight or tomorrow morning.

Does anyone think that Coach Cal has in fact been made an offer by NC State? If so, why are we waiting? We have recruits and a season to prepare for…so what the heck is going on…the delay is hurting everone. Someone please confirm something…Lee give us Coach Cal NOW!

Cardiff, I adopted “Micky McCarthy” as a username to originally post parody comments. I hate that SOB with the furor of a starving lion.

Our timetable is in no way unusual, or excessive. I would imagine if it is Calipari, we’ll know by Monday or Tuesday at the latest.

Just playing devil’s advocate here. I would think that the top priority for any coach with the competitive juices would be a national championship. It seems that Memphis squad next year would have really good odds to make it happen. Especially compared to the Pack (in spite of the talent and potential we have). I know that WE are a better job than Memphis, but ……….Is this the right time for CAL to jump ship?????? Just wanting someone’s opinion on this.

  20. monte kiffin 04/08/2006 at 8:05 PM #

might be the best chance he gets to be tobacco road coach…aint gonna happen in carolina or duke any time soon.
and who wants wake? Now is a very good time…

FOWLER, CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW????

Holy freakin’ cannoli, hire Calamari already so he can start building us a program.

  22. st8grad9699 04/08/2006 at 8:29 PM #

I can’t think of a better time for Cal to leave. He can’t be accused of leaving the cupboard bare for his successor…

  23. packbackr04 04/08/2006 at 8:52 PM #

weve prob been going through all this just for fowler to hire some bum from a mid major that noone as ever heard of

Wikipedia has a good summary of Calipari’s bio/acheivements. He would be an unbelievable coach for NC State.

From DeCourcy’s article, *”The plan is to interview Calipari within the next two days.”*

IMO, that doesn’t mean there *is* an interview scheduled or that Calipari has agreed to one. It may mean that State hopes to land one in the next 48 hours.

Just trying to play the realist here.
