ParticipantSolid, workman+ type performance.
Good job ‘Pack, players and coaches.

ParticipantSince he does everything else, I was just wondering when we’d see JaySam at QB/Wildcat.
Now we need to have him hike the ball as the ‘center’ from the end of the line (so eligible reciever) on trick and PAT plays.

ParticipantI wonder if our goal now is to get into like 30-yard FG position, purely for psychological reasons.
You know this is an NC State fan site, right? That’s kinda like making a toast at an AA meeting.

ParticipantGallaspy’s issues have been picking up blocks but he is going to be really good.
That, and correctly reading blocks / hitting the hole (… careful, this is a PG board). Otherwise known as Trent Richardson syndrome.
But agree. He’s a good, strong runner and will get better.

ParticipantMaybe in the past, the receivers, on average, just haven’t run fast enough to catch up with the passes?
Or it could’ve been due to a failure to compensate for unexpected anomalies in the Coriolis effect.

ParticipantWhether it was injury, weather, or just mental funk, is good to see Jacoby come out of it and get his arm back.
He’s only gotta hit a few a game to keep em honest and stop the D’s from doing what L’ville and VT did to us. Today, his mid to deep ball accuracy seems better than ever.

ParticipantAfter a half, it’s about as good as could’ve reasonably expected.

Participant^ Fair enough, opinions vary.
I see improvement in H Jones, Burris (Clemson, with all their talent completed one pass on him for less than 10 yds), and the soph Stevens. Though admittedly, Stevens had a bad game Saturday, magnified, I think, by the injury to Tocho and fatigue. I’m wondering what’s up with Troy, Jr.
LBs – not much, but my originals comment was referring to that position. I did like what I saw Sat from the freshman Nicholson. Think he’ll be a gamer. But disappointed in this group, especially given the flashes shown last year and the steep learning curve on the front end. This group may have regressed.
Hynes, Ramos, and Trowell have shown some improvement. But hard to judge here, as Brissett, in my judgment, hasn’t been right all year. The drops have certainly disappeared though.
I’m not saying I’m blown away by the magnitude, but I see it. But I also expected more, much more from some players.
DD will evaluate after the season. He’s proven he’s not slow to the trigger if he thinks it’s warranted, case in point being the quick change a WR coach.
McKeever sighting, anyone? With that height and athleticism, the growing depth on the DL, and his lack of use and production levels, maybe its time to consider moving him back to WR?

ParticipantStill dont think Frazier’s RS is coming off, unless he’s been the 2nd coming of Gurley in practice.
DD himself had said missing spring + the injury + the illness had put him far behind Gallaspy.
But then, that was 7 or 8 games ago and Gallaspy has shown zero progress on the game field.
Another injury and DD has no choice.
tjfoose1
ParticipantOf course he is. A game away from 1000 yards. Smh.
The hit will be exponential. Either a huge drop off at RB that hits both the run and passing (protection) game, or Samuels is moved to RB to minimize the hit, which dramatically reduces the productively and threat of Samuels’ former TE/Wing position, which makes the entire offense more easy to defend.
Id take 7-5 right now and be content with it.

ParticipantSkunk did write State has an awesome return man. Well, Hynes is good but on a short path to awesome.
But I’ll count it, so he got something right.

ParticipantAnd there’s CD, adding detail I left out as to the routes occupying the safeties in the middle of the field.

ParticipantRye,
Maybe over simplifying, but unless you’re talking shutdown corners, a zone gives the CB safety help.
This allows the CB to play up tight because he has help behind him for anything over the top.
But Clemson was in a 4 receiver set (maybe even 5, can’t remember), with routes going to the deep middle to occupy the safeties. This can limit the protection, the hot routes, or the dump of options, but Clemson’s OL was playing very well.
Anyway, this is what I was referring to earlier with my reference to Clemson scheming to purposely get specific matchups. They were scheming to get one on one coverage on the outside. Given the specific athletes and experience levels, this was a matchup that favored Clemson.
It was clear as day from my seat 15 rows up. There was really nothing the coaches
could do except rely on the kids to execute.Sometimes it’s not complicated, it comes down to player vs player. You just gotta let the boys go and play.

ParticipantThe clock management was about right from my perspective. The intent was to save enough time for a continued TD drive.
From my view on the sidelines, behind the bench, I’m almost positive they went into third down with the intention of going for it on 4th, but would evaluate after the play.
The lost yardage on the busted play dump off to the outlet Dayes foiled that plan. Clemson made a great play.
As a coach, you don’t scheme so conservatively to expect that result. It happens.
My take, anyway.

ParticipantSo where is the development?
?
Aside from Jacoby who may have regressed (I stl think he’s injured) and some on the D, I see it everywhere.

ParticipantYou gotta wonder whether they have any adults in supervisory roles at “the ACC”….
Based on Swofty costing the conference millions to get little Johnny a promotion at Raycom, I’d say it’s a safe bet lots of ACC positions are filled via graft, favors, nepotism, and quid pro quo. Probably even worse than the NC State administration and other positions, pre Woodson.

Participant48 seconds left in half. Man coverage on outside receiver. Believe that failure was the game! Don’t understand this decision, would love to have heard explanation.
I was in the stands, so didn’t have the advantage of the TV replay, but from what I remember, it was the boundary side of the field with a single WR, and their slot (#13, super fast, former walk-on, who had burned us earlier down the middle with a long TD) on the other side of the ball ran a fly to occupy the safety. He did the same on 1st down too. I remember because I was watching him and was making sure they didn’t do the same thing for a redux of his big play TD from earlier in the game. The coaches had it covered, but it opened up the boundary (weak) side of the field. Stevens had perfect coverage, but the push off created the separation.
From my perspective, the most valid criticism of the entire sequence is having Bambard attempt the FG. I would have had Maples and would’ve made that decision the previous Sunday. As I mentioned earlier, I understand sticking with talented youth in a slump, but it’s about GAME DAY production, not practice. 3 of 8 is enough. Let him work on his pysche where it can’t hurt the team. Come back to him later.

ParticipantNot having Shadrach on the field last Saturday was worth two touchdowns…
It was also worth a fumble.
On an obvious passing down Gallaspy went in… If you want a valid point to discuss criticism, this is one. It was one of my few ‘wtf’ moments in the game. Said aloud to the Clemson guy next to me, “oh uh, this ain’t good, here comes a sack”. He whiffed his block and Jacboy was stripped. I don’t recall him back in the game after that, at least on a passing play.
I also called 3 of Clemson’s TDs from the stands before they hiked the ball. That concerns me. But to be fair, it was somewhat obvious given the matchups they were purposely creating with their alignments. Their OL (I can’t stress enough how much I was impressed, aside from that mini stretch our DLine had) and run game forced us to play it straight in the box and man coverage on the wings. We simply don’t have the horses, yet. Outmanned and outgunned. But DD and staff kept going toe-to-toe for a punchers chance.

ParticipantI don’t understand, Fox and Del Rio had four years to fix the bronco’s defense. As soon as they leave, Denver has the #1 defense.
Though terrible as a head coach, Phillips is the best DC in the NFL, and it’s a long way to 2nd. Just pulling from memory, but I can’t recall a stint were as DC he did not have one of the top D’s in the league.

ParticipantTwo or three more years of this guy is going to be so much fun to watch.
He’s still got a bit to learn, but I’d say he already is.
