yeah… I vaguely remember the story…
it’s probably 50/50 … the folks living there were ‘comfortable’, not the same as happy, with the house…
and Mr. Carter could have fixed the place up but then they couldn’t afford the rent…
and then he would have had to fix up all the other houses on the planation… and didn’t want to spend the money…
or maybe he saw the end of ‘sharecroppers’ and their shanties… you know we did in North Carolina ten years earlier…
and decided it best to help those folks ‘move on’…
and then maybe the reason had something to with that AJC reporter… following the Gubernortorial campaign…
or all three…
who really knows?
any way it was… as Paki suggested … we’re reasonably sure it was a “well thought out” decision….
