Game Thread: Wolfpack Football at Wake (ugh)

And so the Pack’s biennial trip to Winston-Salem, with a superior team in tow, is upon us once again. Nobody needs to beat that particular statistical dead horse and/or remind any of us with a pulse what this trip has meant of late.

Bottom line…any Pack fan younger than 14 was not alive the last time State bettered the Deacs at their place.

And sure, maybe the Pack didn’t have the better team for every one of those trips. But more often than not. And of course, as I type this most books have the Pack as 10 pt road fave. So yeah, we got ’em right where we want ’em…I think.

Hopefully Vegas knows best, and hopefully the extra week has helped with health and preparation. Because not only is the road streak at Wake ongoing, but after opening 4-0 against the salad of the ’15 slate, the meat has punched back. State is currently on a two game skid which needs breaking before it snowballs into a season sinker.

It all gets underway at Noon. TV is on RSN (FoxSportsCarolinas locally) or ESPN3.

And aside from whatever extras (vids, links, pics and such) I decide to pepper this up with, that’s all I got folks. I spent way too much time at the fair on Friday.

Plus I got a date with a couple (or more) of hot guys early today. It’s the one year anniversary meeting of the OGORM Club (Old Guys’ on Road Mojo), founded roughly one year ago in order to bring the Pack mojo for a much needed road win (at ‘Cuse).

The “Old Guys'” part is sadly self-explanatory.

Last year we managed to help Wolfpack Football to a much needed win in the Heat Pump Dome to snap a then four game losing streak and get back on track for a post-season push. This year the streak is but two. But still, mojo be needed.

Thusly, we are once again making the sacrifice of having to gather for laughing, drinking and general merriment.  Hopefully the two year anniversary mtg will be merely ceremonial rather than mandatory, with the Pack sporting an unblemished first half.

Since founding, we’ve also gotten together for basketball and baseball at times. FWIW, the Pack has never lost in any sport when we’ve been together in toto. Seriously…I did the research.

Yes, we ARE awesome.

Did not like the play calls in the red zone. Why not just run it down their throat?

Shouldn’t be difficult to find short range accuracy. It’s not a rare ability.

New kicker at next try, If there is one.

Need D to pick us up.

    Ply,

The plays were there for easy scores. JB missed. Ugh.

We might win. But unless we tack on one, maybe two nice scoring drives, it’s not going to feel very good, IMHO.

JB needs another realigmnent, then we good again.

What that means, I don’t know.

Is Tanner McCarthy (FR from Wilson) redshirted?

If not, give Jackson Maples a shot.

….maybe a rotation and balance too.

    Good job D.

Ok JB. Long 5+ min drive. Slow and steady. End this right.

    Please?

I guess my expectations got too high in the 1st qtr; the last 3 have been very hard to watch. I cannot relax yet. Too much typical State play.

    That was unimpressive.

Regardless of ending, lots of work to do this week given a game that started 28-0. Looking like a microcosm of the season.

How many times must a lesson be learned? Youth, whadda gonna do?

Not a long time consuming drive, but I’ll take it.

    That’s better.

The player id is happy, but the coaching ego is not.

Not fully fluid, but close enough to require vigilance.

I stand corrected on the kicker thing. No bench?

Alpha Wolf said “It’s been quite a while since State’s had a place-kicker this bad. 3-8 this year with his long being 36 yards.”
Until this year, I do not recall when we did not have a good/great kicker since my freshman year, 1965.

A win is a win is a win, especially in Winston.

But Freud says there’s still much work to be done.

    Much. Work.

This team’s limit seems to be set by its collective noggin.

What an elegant way to state your issue.
