NC State vs Xavier in Dayton on Tuesday at 9:10pm [Updated 6:55pm]

NC State will play Xavier in the “First Four” in Dayton on Tuesday night at 9:10pm.

With a win, State travels to Orlando to play St. Louis on Thursday.

Ultimately, things shook out just like we said yesterday when we said that NC State would be either the last team in the field or the last team out.

We also told you this morning that this analysis was the most appropriate and accurate of all of the bubble analysis out there. BOOM! I hope you listened to us, we would have saved you an awful lot of heartburn (and time) following the morons who don’t know how to add and subtract. You are welcome. 🙂

For fun, allow me to highlight that NC State is in the same bracket with Herb Sendek’s Arizona State Sun Devils…who, for even MORE FUN, is playing RICK BARNES’s Texas Longhorns. WOW!! Someone get me out of 2005!!

In all of this, I can’t help but LOVE the egg on the face of some of the expert ‘Bracketologists’, most notably Joe Lunardi of ESPN. Lunardi was so dismissive about NC State that he not only refused to acknowledge State as a ‘First Four Out’; he moved the Pack completely out of consideration and added salt into his own wound by keeping FSU as one of the first teams to miss the Tourney. That is the same FSU that NC State defeated head to head on our way to finishing ahead of in the ACC as we’ve been on fire the last three weeks. Sorry, Joe

But, of all of the douchebags that live ‘out there’ in pundit-land, nobody has as much egg on their face as ESPN’s Jeff Goodman who was adamant all weekend that NC State would have to win the ACC Tournament to advance to the NCAA Tournament. Not only was Goodman wrong about that proclamation, he missed it by a full two rounds as State needed two LESS wins than he projected.

Earlier today Goodman again proclaimed that the Pack wouldn’t make the tournament.

His reaction when NC State was selected?

The take-away from all this should be obvious — keep listening to us.

We even avoid playing on my personal bad luck day (Wednesday). Recipients of the very last bid.

Weird angle nobody has mentioned yet – we probably have our old 1983 friends Houston for this invite (beat SMU in the American quarters, with an RPI in 150s).

I mentioned it in the Bubble Talk thread. My youngest starts at UH in the Fall.

Fly to Dayton, OH tomorrow for a late Tuesday night game.
Win & fly to Orlando, FL (for an unknown time at this moment) Thursday game.

Good point. Didn’t the NCAA address this a year or so ago and say we would play in the evening?

Just for the record where did Jeff Goodman go to school?

Yea Jiga, last one in doesn’t get any breaks, a team that played 3 straights games in order to get in.

I think K’s endorsement helped as well as the Cuse and *unx games as foose pointed out. And the surge in the last 5 games.

I really dont care about the breaks. We are in. Give it to Buckets. We can win 2 and see what happens with Louisville.

Is anyone listening to ESPN talk about their BPI. If something doesn’t make sense versus their made-up ranking…maybe the problem is with the BPI.

I stopped caring about BPI the first time they mentioned “pace of play” as a factor in calculations.

We were the only miss by the Dance Card. They had Cal in instead of us.

Goodman went to the University of Taiwanese Lady-Boy Lovers.

I mean Arizona. University of Arizona.

Glad you brought that up. The Dance Card also missed on State during the Herb-era (2003?)

Sendek, Barnes and Beilein in the same pod. The committee sure does have some humor.

Much deserved! Survive and advance! And to Joe Lunardi and all the other pundits: GFY! 🙂

If Arizona State can make this field, you’ve got to figure that we were in it all the way!

I imagine there are a lot of Wake Forest fans who would wholeheartedly, even financially, support a Ron Wellman campaign for ACC Comish.

Thank GOD (and maybe Coach K) that there will be no NIT for this team this season!

The game vs SMU next year just got a little more juice. 😉

A bunch of these guys are picking Michigan State to win it all. Kind of surprising.

I think we should also thank Central for having a really good season. That ended up being a quality loss, not a back breaker.

I definitely felt Lunardi was significantly off in how far below the cut line we were. But didn’t see any way we weren’t below it. VERY GLAD to be wrong on prong two.

I wonder if ESPN leaned on Lunardi a little bit to advance their made-up BPI metric (which really didn’t like us, for some reason).

When I talk about Houston, I meant how weirdly serendipitous it was for it to be Phi Slamma Jamma that came through for us.

I like our draw. These aren’t particularly long flights, or vastly disparate time zones. Not too worried about fatigue.

or what ever terminology you want to use for the loss other than bad loss.

I think it should be a requirement that everyone drink Budweiser till we are eliminated or win the whole dam thing. I commented on the “So You’re saying we have a chance” thread that we would be a play in 12 seed around noon today. That was my 1st Budweiser. I have now moved on to liquor. Go Pack!

Yeah, I was happy they didn’t get a 16 seed play-in…then they wound up all the way up to 14. We helped them, and they helped us. I’m sure that made Coach Moton’s buddy Julius happy!

UVA got a 1 seed, but a tricky 16 matchup with Cliff Ellis’ Chanticleers. I will pick that as an upset in one of my brackets.

After watching Central’s season they turned out to be a decent team. And with some luck they can bury the dump on the hump. Glad the teams gets to fight another day. Being a bubble team you can’t expect a lot of love but it seems the bracket is not as unkind as it could have been.

A strong 4? Perhaps. But a weak 5? Definitely. I’d be happy as a pig in shit just to make it to Saturday, we are totally playing with house money.

The basketball god’s are (finally) smiling favorably on us. I don’t think any of our future opponents want anything to do with Buckets. He is a Wolfpack legend, and it is growing. Watch out.
