Happy Thanksgiving – All Weekend Sports Feast Open Thread

Screen Shot 2013-11-27 at 10.25.51 PMHappy Thanksgiving to you and yours from all of us here at Statefans Nation!  Hope you are enjoying the holiday weekend, that you get to spend time with loved ones and friends and of course get to watch some of the great sports action.  Chat about it here!

If you are driving long distance this weekend, here’s a recommendation for a smartphone application you might want to employ: Waze.  It’s a combination GPS mapping application, but comes with the added bonus of a social media component that can alert you about heavy traffic, wrecks ahead, and yes…patrolmen too.  The alerts about traffics and accidents are worth their weight in gold.

Here’s today’s sports major sports action:

Friday 11/29

Via The News and Observer. Games of special interest are highlighted in red.  The NFL is on hiatus for a couple of days, but we’ve got the chance to take a good look at some future hoops opponents, a good SEC tilt in football and two of our three regional pro teams are in action.  That, and the Pack’s Women’s Hoops team looks to continue their high-flying start this afternoon against Wright State in the Gulf Coast Showcase.  In toto, there’s plenty to keep us busy while our better halves go about their Black Friday shopping while we eat turkey sandwiches and sit in front of the television.

Happy Thanksgiving all. Please be safe.

    Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Just a thought… Minutes ago I was reading on nbcsports about the Maui Invitational and new ACC member Syracuse winning it when something else caught my eye, which was the team that finished 3rd. Dayton Flyers! Just wanted to shout out some praise to the job Archie Miller’s done so far this season up there. They’re 6-1 and in the past week beat GaTech, #11 Gonzaga, a one point loss to #18 Baylor(that would have put them in the Maui title game) and a clobbering of Cal in the 3rd place game. Not a bad week at all!

Thanks for listing games of note on today’s sports “menu”

    Enjoy the day!

Quarterback Mike Glennon was named the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Month for November.

  5. Alpha Wolf 11/28/2013 at 5:19 AM #

Glennon has been looking good. We’ll see if that lasts this weekend against a far hotter team than the ones they’ve seen recently.

    And Wufpacker, that’s great!

    Happy Thanksgiving to all!

I’m quite happy that all three former Pack QB’s in the NFL are shining. As Alpha syas we shall see how our giraffe does as the competition stiffens.

    Nice job Wulf

Happy Thanksgiving to all…Alpha: is the above an artist’s rendering of Ol’ Roy after he got the news on PJ’s playing status?

  9. redcanine 11/28/2013 at 7:26 AM #

What’s AXS TV? I’d like to see that game.

A Big Turkey Day to all !!!

Enjoy your families where ever they are.

    ——
    Random passing thoughts…

Less is more. Turkey that is.

Glennon handles the pass rush well down in Fla as it’s the first season he’s played behind a real 0-line.

Watched the Dookies last night… Anybody that thinks they can outcoach Coach Rat in the last three minutes of the game is probably wrong. And I couldn’t help but
keep thinking that he got’s four coming in next season as good or better than any four he had on the floor last night. Some’s thing wrong with that picture.

Twerps don’t have a chance at Carter on Saturday.

Somebody is out to get J.Winston as the monkey Internet trial continues unabated.

Have a good one guys and gals.

  11. BJD95 11/28/2013 at 8:43 AM #

Dear Matt Flynn. Please throw 5 TD passes today and save my outside shot at cashing in my fantasy league. Amen, hallelujah.

Two decent college games tonight, too. This should be a fun day.

HWSNBN 13-14 Sun Devils are 6-0 going into the Creighton game. ASU beat Marquette this past Monday Night 79-77.

    Bill,onthebeach,

I hope that you are correct about the Twerps. Based on the search criteria “Maryland state” on the Raleigh, CL, the “make offer or best offer” phrase seems to be used in most of the ads.

At least, if all the MD fans attend, it will be red….but I have a feeling that the last week’s REAL attendance of about 80% will not even come close to being matched…

As to Jameius Winston….I have not gone out to all the “swamps” and done any reading. All I know is what is reported in the various media outlets. Have NOT done a lot of reading, but some. Couple of statements stuck out….

Tallahassee police seemingly trying to “deep six” the investigation….and it took a prying press to ever get, via FOIA, the info….THEN, it got turned over to a State prosecutor.

Tallahassee police wanting to make sure that the “Victim” understood that she would be REALLY become a Victim.

Jameius Winston’s attorney commenting on the DNA match as being “irrelevant”, then realizing that OPPS, no info on DNA had been released and then trying to retract his comments or tone them down.

Tallahassee police’s main or most stated reason for NOT believing the victim….the assailant was between 5′-7″ – 5’9″ and Mr. Winston is much taller. Did the incident take place in a bank or a convenience store where there is a scale on the door so you can ID the height?

JW’s attorney stating that JW had two witnesses (supposedly FSU teammates and this seems to be correct based on all the local news accounts) that were willing to testify that it was NOT as it appeared, i.e. consensual

I remember a case of our star freshman QB entering a dorm (Lee or Sullivan) on Saturday night and having “consensual” sex (using all three orifices) with a co-ed. He was convicted on a lesser charge, if my memory serves me right, served a little time, then was allowed to return to CA and played for a “Tech” school out there.

NOW, I’ll grant you that a lot of the boards, some of our lower echelon boards included, are having a field day and swear they have video of the young lady being kidnapped and bound and the entire FSU team, save the female managers, availing themselves of here for at least a month….

I also note some similarities between how certain “local” athletes seem to be handled and that certain coaches get phone calls about 2 seconds AFTER the DL# hits the dispatcher’s screen….not that Jimbo has donated exorbitant sums to the TPD Officer’s Benevolent fund….but MAYBE he has….

    Happy Thanksgiving!

Everybody have a great day. Make sure to watch the best team that A&M and Mizzou have beaten.

  15. Alpha Wolf 11/28/2013 at 11:45 AM #

Dear Matt Flynn. Please throw 5 TD passes today and save my outside shot at cashing in my fantasy league. Amen, hallelujah.

Next season we simply MUST have an SFN league. My fantasy teams are both mediocre at best, but I still have a lot of fun with it.

Adventuroo…. I heard on the street corner (Tennessee and Monroe)….

Number one reason to “be cautious” in conclusions re: JWinston….

    In the fall of 2012…
    1. J had an out of town girl friend.
    2. J and thatOtherWoman (tOW) were ‘hooking up” on a regular basis.
    3. Same for the night in question.
    4. Afterwards, J tells tOW — you gotta stay out of sight this weekend — my girlfriend is coming to town.
    5. The proverbial Shat hits the fan. tOW goes off.
and a couple of hours later calls 911.
    6. tOW’s roommate who’s “dating” J’s friend are in the apartment before, during and after…. and also tell TPD what they saw and know.
    7. for some extended period (weeks or months) after the night in question….

    ….. and the punchline is….wait for it….

J and oTW continue to “hookup” on a regular basis.
    (We all know makeup-sex is … )

At least this much appears to undisputed….by either party and collobrated by witnesses.

Yep… if that’s the case…. TPD did the right thing… three months later….

Miscellaneous Useless Trivia…. for the overly paranoid Noles’ fans….

Wm. Meggs — the State Attorney — is an undergraduate and law school graduate from the Florida State University and he’s our age… Adventuroo.

It must be “Friday” down in Tallahassee.

Thanks Alpha. I went to their site and entered my zip code… “You’re SOL”

Too bad because I’d like to see Wiggins play. At least I get to watch Ok St beat someone other than the Wolfpack by 20pts.

  19. DC_wolf 11/28/2013 at 12:07 PM #

Mmmmm.. Wuf, those birds are lookin’ YUMMY

Happy Thanksgiving to all my fellow Pack fans

On a quick, sad note: couldn’t help remembering when Manny Stocker was a HUGE target for the Pack – & when we hauled him in it was considered a huge get; probably the biggest score for O’Brien & staff. Real sorry it didn’t work out & wish him better luck wherever he lands, hopefully closer to home.

You’re always a member of the Wolfpack family!

  20. BJD95 11/28/2013 at 12:23 PM #

SFN fantasy sounds great, Alpha. As long as it’s at least 0.5 PPR.

I started 6-1, then 7-2. Now 7-5 and on life support. I am extremely Bronco WR-dependent, and I also needed more out of the Panthers’ D last week.

I also have to play either Fred Jackson or CJ Spiller this week. Against a horrid run defense, one of them will end up doing well. But will it be Spilly off the bye week and feeling better? Or the steady plodding of Fred?

It is a week of taking risks. I am starting Flynn over Brady because I think today’s game will be a Wild West shootout. Flynn should be confident facing the Lions, had the game of his career the last time he faced them.

Houston somehow has the #1 ranked passing defense, and I could see the Pats beating them like 17-6 and running more.

But I am certain every decision I make will be wrong.

  21. BJD95 11/28/2013 at 12:24 PM #

And of course I have to add a song, just for VAWolf’s amusement:

  22. Wufpacker 11/28/2013 at 1:08 PM #

I really gotta get me one of these.
I am of course referring to the camera.
Get your damn minds out of the gutter.

  23. BJD95 11/28/2013 at 1:29 PM #

Damn you, Matt Flynn. Why must you suck so hard??

  24. Wufpacker 11/28/2013 at 1:37 PM #

There ya go…Stafford trying to keep the pressure on.

  25. Virginia Wolf 11/28/2013 at 2:15 PM #
