All you need to do is scroll through the last 20 entries we’ve posted on SFN to get all of the (depressing) State @ Wake trends and history that you may need, like a recap of the last 10 years. Let’s just hope this year is like last year when State’s defense dominated the Deacons.
2012: Raleigh. NC State 37, Wake Forest 6
Going into this game, State needed one win in their last 3 to get bowl eligible. They didn’t waste any time, jumping on Wake Forest 17-0 in the first quarter and cruising to an easy victory. The play of the game was the second half kickoff when Tobias Palmer ran for a 100 yard touchdown. Mike Glennon had a good day passing for 258 yards and 2 touchdowns. Shadrach Thornton ran for 110 yards as well as the Pack came back from a listless performance the week before against Virginia.
One statistic that wasn’t as (relatively) bad that I found interesting is that Wake Forest’s Head Coach Jim Grobe is 31-10 in his career against schools from North Carolina. Of that 31-10 record he is only 6-6 vs NC State.
The following is quick video preview of today’s game.

Wake Forest expects that they might sell out their massive 31,500 seats today!! Typically, NC State fans bring at least 50% of the crowd in Winston-Salem. It will be interesting to see if that trend continues to hold after a decade of futility for Wolfpackers. But, things are different in Raleigh now; hopefully that leads to a different result today.
[Coach Doeren] has exceeded all of my expectations. He’s just like my old high school coach. He came in, he had a game plan, he got everybody on board. He’s energetic. He’s in your life. There’s not a day that goes by where he doesn’t have enough energy for the whole entire team. He’s done good with coaching for the games, getting us prepared, getting our bodies right, the personnel they have for offense and defense. They’ve just done such a phenomenal job. I’m glad to be a part of it.
