#GameDay – State @ Wake

All you need to do is scroll through the last 20 entries we’ve posted on SFN to get all of the (depressing) State @ Wake trends and history that you may need, like a recap of the last 10 years. Let’s just hope this year is like last year when State’s defense dominated the Deacons.

2012: Raleigh. NC State 37, Wake Forest 6

Going into this game, State needed one win in their last 3 to get bowl eligible. They didn’t waste any time, jumping on Wake Forest 17-0 in the first quarter and cruising to an easy victory. The play of the game was the second half kickoff when Tobias Palmer ran for a 100 yard touchdown. Mike Glennon had a good day passing for 258 yards and 2 touchdowns. Shadrach Thornton ran for 110 yards as well as the Pack came back from a listless performance the week before against Virginia.

One statistic that wasn’t as (relatively) bad that I found interesting is that Wake Forest’s Head Coach Jim Grobe is 31-10 in his career against schools from North Carolina. Of that 31-10 record he is only 6-6 vs NC State.

The following is quick video preview of today’s game.

Uniform watch:

Wake Forest expects that they might sell out their massive 31,500 seats today!! Typically, NC State fans bring at least 50% of the crowd in Winston-Salem. It will be interesting to see if that trend continues to hold after a decade of futility for Wolfpackers. But, things are different in Raleigh now; hopefully that leads to a different result today.

[Coach Doeren] has exceeded all of my expectations. He’s just like my old high school coach. He came in, he had a game plan, he got everybody on board. He’s energetic. He’s in your life. There’s not a day that goes by where he doesn’t have enough energy for the whole entire team. He’s done good with coaching for the games, getting us prepared, getting our bodies right, the personnel they have for offense and defense. They’ve just done such a phenomenal job. I’m glad to be a part of it.

Heading over to WS soon, tailgate gear crammed in the Yukon. Going to be hot as hell. Hope we can run for 300 yards today and keep the ball away from the beer drinkin baptists. They do drink, you know. Just not in front of each other.

Having grown up in a Baptist home, the joke we always had was whenever you find 4 Baptist, you are likely to find a fifth.

Or how we Baptists have selective memory. Ask about your family in the grocery store, have no idea who you are in the liquor store.

Seems to me that Wake Forest broke ties with the Southern Baptist Convention years ago.

Yeah, my buddy is a Wake grad, and they are no longer Baptist-affiliated.

Invite one Baptist over, and he will drink you dry. Invite two, and nobody will touch a drop.

Woohoo, mainline Methodist in the house!! LMAO.

    Recovering Methodist here.

Most folks call it “losing my way” however. 😀

    Meh

They keep “modernizing” the services, which I don’t like. I am a traditional introvert Methodist, bordering on recluse. So I am really a Methodist mostly in terms of choice of funeral location LMAO.

    Iowa/Sparty – a game without offense.

Actually, I find it quite offensive.

And don’t sleep on UVa hosting BALLU.

    Heh. Letterman would be proud.

But lord almighty, that game really IS on.

EDIT – oh, and I forgot to mention the BallU is currently up 7-3.

I am now watching Texas Tech at KS, to get acclimated to watching a crowd of about 800 people.

    Being a Whiskey-palian I can’t say a lot about another religion’s drinking.

Underwood seems to have gotten over the shock of finding a head coach who’s enthusiastic and has a lot of energy.

“….to get acclimated to watching a crowd of about 800 people.”

    😀

I’ve been watching that one myself, as I have one of those kinship things with TT. But yeah, I think the folks in Lawrence must have had a Danny Manning remembrance party to attend. They have those weekly, you know.

At least the Red Raiders have managed a tre now.

Looks like Carolina won’t win the Coastal this year…at least they can still make a ring.

  23. BJD95 10/05/2013 at 2:00 PM #
