State’s CWS comes into focus

NC State will play the winner of UNC-USC in Omaha on Sunday at 3pm on ESPN2. The winner of the round one match up plays the winner of UCLA-LSU on Tuesday night at 8pm. The loser of the round one game plays the loser of UCLA-LSU on Tuesday afternoon at 3pm.

I am currently in California, so I am not at home to monitor the weather. At 7:11pm last night I noticed someone saying that it was not raining in Chapel Hill and appeared clear. I’m wondering how long the weather held clear in Chapel Hill late yesterday afternoon and into the night? Ultimately, was there enough clear time for UNC and USC to play their game? Or, at least start their game?

The delay was nothing sinister. It was clear by 7pm, but tornado warnings in the area until 10pm, lines of storms moving through all day. They postponed it in the afternoon.

I think they could have played it. The sun came out where I live(near RDU). The tornado WATCH was cancelled early. They had to make a projection though and you have to error on the side of caution.

Don’t believe the official statements – it was delayed because the Cheaters were still butthurt from the spanking that the Gamecocks gave them on Sunday.

Brings a tear to the eye to watch the above clip of the celebration. I’m so proud (always am actually) of being a Wolfpacker right now. The payoff for these young men who have put so much into this team and seeing them get rewarded….it’s a lot to take in. I hope the basketball and football teams are inspired by the joy and elation on these players faces. This could be you guys too!!

Please stop referring to South Carolina as USC. Let their own fans call them that if they wish, but any sports fan knows that there is only one USC, which is in Los Angeles.

Except for Ray Tanner’s final few seasons in Columbia, South Carolina has never been even remotely close to the level of sports success enjoyed by the Trojans.

And today will probably be no different; the Chickens will find a way to lose today. What I’d really like to see, though, is a 30-inning game, interrupted by storms, fights, ejections, and mass ESPN outages.

This game will definitely be played today….No score after one innning.

  7. NCMike 06/11/2013 at 12:38 PM #

1-0 chickens going to the bottom of the second.

  8. NCMike 06/11/2013 at 1:23 PM #

    2-1 Holes bottom of 4th.

USC went into LA and beat the Trojans in football during George Rogers’ senior season. In the weeks before the game there bumper stickers in Columbia that read –

“USC vs. USC No Trojan Can Hold Our ‘Cocks.”

“Please stop referring to South Carolina as USC”

I’ve been trying for several years to convince people to refer to USC as “Carolina” and call the baby-blues “Chapel Hill”. For no other reason than I know that UNC-CH alums hate it.

Hole’s CF, tool of the year, drops a routine fly and gives the Gamecocks 2 runs. South Carolina up 3-2

I don’t know who to pull for. I want UNC to lose but I would love for State to beat UNC in the CWS. So I’m torn. Also, I know we have the ability to beat UNC. Not sure about SC.

Does State use wood or composite bats or mixed? I was wondering but have no clue on what is normally used in college.

  14. Whiteshoes67 06/11/2013 at 2:02 PM #

^ Same here. Plus, my wife is from SC and a big Gamecocks fan. No wood bats except in BP and summer leagues.

I mentioned in the other thread, but UNC is beatable right now. Scar has been there done that 3 years running. They know how to scratch out games at the CWS with zero mistakes and aren’t afraid of the big stage.

  16. Whiteshoes67 06/11/2013 at 2:10 PM #

^Agreed, as much as I’d love to see UNC go down today, i think I’d rather face them in Omaha than the Gamecocks. I think the SEC is still a better league top to bottom. Vandy got a really tough draw with Louisville. But with LSU and Miss St. already in, and SC up on UNC, looks like the SEC could get 3

  17. PackFanInLA 06/11/2013 at 2:19 PM #

What has gotten into you people? Root AGAINST unc. When in doubt, always root AGAINST unc. It’s very simple.

  18. 6-4Sequoia 06/11/2013 at 2:24 PM #

I have to wholeheartedly agree with PackFanInLA. I can never, under any circumstances pull for UNC in any sport. Even my own brother (who graduated from UNC) whom I love very much gets snickered at when I beat him in anything. Usually with a “serves you right, you TarHole” comment uttered from me.

  19. NCMike 06/11/2013 at 2:26 PM #

5-4 UNC top of 7th…a couple of major errors by both teams.

  20. Whiteshoes67 06/11/2013 at 2:27 PM #

Oh no, I ain’t rooting for UNC. Ever. But I recognize that the better matchup for us may just be UNC in Omaha. Holes up 5-4 in the 7th

  21. MrPlywood 06/11/2013 at 2:40 PM #

I always root against the Holes, but this is a bit different since if they win today, then State would get to beat them in the CWS, which would be very satisfying. I’m good either way.

  22. Whiteshoes67 06/11/2013 at 2:41 PM #

Syke Bolt runs like Hansblower. They must teach that over there.

  23. Texpack 06/11/2013 at 2:50 PM #

So Gamecast only showed two outs for USC in the 8th. Is their half really over?

  24. Whiteshoes67 06/11/2013 at 2:52 PM #

yep, UNC with runner on first, 1 out in bottom of 8th

  25. Whiteshoes67 06/11/2013 at 2:54 PM #

I believe the Gamecocks have the top of the order coming up in the 9th. Runner on 2nd for UNC, 2 down
