We have won four of the past five and are still on track for a 11-7 if not better record. This is a road game so it will not be as boring as the last game but this one will not come down to a final shot.
I think we win by 8 points. 79-71.

Good game. I think we are a 6 or 7 seed right now, at he highest, with the potential to get to a 4 or 5 seed, depending on how others do in their conference tournaments.

    I don’t like being out-rebounded, but the 12 steals is a plus.

    The new mantra:
    Lose ‘Hoos, LOSE!

    wins win.
    loses don’t.
    do more of that.

Interesting game. Didn’t play out quite the way I thought it would. But I won’t complain about a double-digit road win, especially when we had off nights from both Zo and Wood. One down, two to go. Go Pack!

Georgia Tech is tough at home. Plus, they are kind of mean. Glad we get to go home with the W.

I also don’t like their floor either. What happened to sunshine yellow? Played there once (a real long time ago) for a Christmas tournament b/c they needed a team to squash before conference play. Back in the Cremins’ era. He invited and then escorted us to their men’s locker room (normally this did not happen- in fact it never happened again – using the guys upgraded locker room). Nice man. They did have fantastic locker rooms.

Really good teams find ways to win games like this. Tonight is a most excellent omen.

Very good win. Tech has some bruisers. We beat them up pretty good. Howell was amazing in the first then we went away from him. Not much outside shooting tonight but Lewis made a big win. He deserves more minutes IMHO. Calvin played hard but still makes some really bad plays. But at least he played hard today and had a few good buckets down low. All in all a very solid win on the road. A week left to fine tune a few things before March madness. Hope we get the 4 seed with UVA’s horrific loss at BC. That is a horrendous loss. You can’t lose that.

A win on the road with one 3 pointer made is unheard of in today’s NCAA. Speechless.

  8. 61Packer 03/03/2013 at 8:31 PM #

Gregory may end up making Paul Hewitt look good; Tech is AWFUL. I honestly don’t see how Gregory and the guys at WF and VT can continue to keep those jobs.

We played down to Tech’s level for awhile tonight, but finally got in gear and pulled away for a much-needed win. But to get an NCAAT “6” seed, we need to look a little better than we did at times tonight.

However, if the Baylors and the Virginias of the NCAA continue to implode like the Bears did last night and like the Cavs did at BC earlier today, we might be a “3” seed before it’s all over.

“But to get an NCAAT “6″ seed, we need to look a little better than we did at times tonight.”

This was an important ACC road win – I don’t think the committee will consider style points.

If we win out, and UVA loses one of last two, we’re in good shape on the first round ACC bye front. They are at FSU and then Maryland at home.

UNC is at Maryland and Duke at home. I don’t see them losing more than one of those, and I’m not sure what the scenario is if they drop one and we win out..

    oh and nice win.

We needed that win and got it. Virginia’s loss helps us. Maybe, just maybe we won’t have to play Thursday a week.

No, no style points this year. Enough examples of parity across all of college basketball. A road win in conference play is a plus any way you can have it. And we won this one with relative ease. Tech pushed us but we pushed back and won easily down the stretch.

Bottom line – we need to go 2-0, have uncch lose to Dook, and get one more total loss by uncch/uva. Not necessarily likely, but not far-fetched.

61, VT’s coach is in his first year. The Hokies fired Greenberg for being Mr. NIT the past 4 years or whatever. Don’t fault him. Coaches need some time. And Gregory is in year 2 following Hewitt, arguably one of the worst coaches in ACC history. Great recruiter. Atrocious coach. At times he appeared to not even coach. Tech has some good young players. Give him another year, maybe two, and they could be a factor.

Bzzzz at Wake is something else. He followed Gaudio, who was good. Bzzz has been an utter failure. Wake has played better this year, but not by much. They still suck. Bzzz may have bought another year with the win over us and Miami, but I am friends with a few high up Wake fans that aren’t in the least happy about it.

With the way UNC is playing, they very well could beat Duke Saturday night in Chapel Hill. Kelly is indeed back but I guarantee you his legs will go tired soon. Duke is very beatable.

  16. MrPlywood 03/03/2013 at 8:46 PM #

I have a feeling that at 3pm on March 10, Maryland will have a lot of State fans pulling for them.

  17. JeremyH 03/03/2013 at 8:48 PM #

yes Duke is very, very beatable but have more weapons with Kelly back. That dude should have played two nights prior against uva.

  18. JSRy2k 03/03/2013 at 8:53 PM #

I’m pretty sure if we can win our last two and Duke beats UNC that we win the tiebreaker over the holes since neither of us beat Miami but we beat Duke and they did not.

  19. JeremyH 03/03/2013 at 9:03 PM #

I don’t know if a UVA road loss to FSU is more likely to happen than a Duke road win at UNC. I might have to put my money on the first.

  20. BJD95 03/03/2013 at 9:10 PM #

If UVA and the Holes each lose another (provided the Hole loss is to Duke), then we are #3 seed. But the key is what we’ve done for the big dance. Definitely out of the 7-10 pod, regardless of what Lunardi says.

  21. Pack Mentality 03/03/2013 at 9:16 PM #

We’re tied with UVA now at 10-6. If they lose to either MD or FSU and we win out then we finish ahead of them. They win a tiebreak.

Carolina plays MD and Duke. Both are possible losses.

Our chances are good to finish in the top 4.

My assessment of the VT coach is based on my observations of this Hokie team this season, including here at the PNC. VT pushed us to the limit, and I think they have better personnel than BC, WF, FSU, GT and Clemson. Yet, they’re mired in last place. Any coach who has the nation’s leading scorer on his team should do better than 12th in a so-so ACC.

I’m not defending Seth Greenberg, either. But it’s possible to get better coaching in Blacksburg, as Don DeVoe was proof of that.

I just don’t understand why so major universities are hiring people who’ve never had head coaching experience. I’m guessing its due to the increasing interference of administrative types like Lee Fowler, who think they know more than anybody else.

  23. coach13 03/03/2013 at 10:20 PM #

May help FSU played so poorly. Coach reems them a new one, they bounce back, beat the Hoos, let down again vs Pack. Ta-da.

  24. MARinRVA 03/03/2013 at 10:23 PM #

VT fired Greenberg weeks after the season’s end, not days. They put themselves in a situation where no one was available. So they hired back Johnson, a VT assistant who’d gone to Clemson. A Fowler-esque transition. Horrible.

    OK…

I hate to flog a dead horse….especially since the Europeans would like it in their hamburger….BUT.

I think that the JIG is up. We are playing on Thursday. Right now, we could probably lose one and still be in Fifth…..but ASSUME we win them all….which I think we will.

IF UVA had won all of their games, which they SHOULD have, then they would have had a LOCK on 3rd. That was the most probable….but that is why they play the game.

UNC has TWO more. Duke (Even at CH, this SHOULD be a LOSS) and MD (ROAD Trip…on WED) should be a WIN…Sr. Night….never know.

THEN, we would have been tied with UNC for 4th. Both lost to Miami. UNC would have TWO losses to DUKE and us ONE. BINGO….tie is broken and we are FOURTH.

THAT is why I was pulling for UVA to WIN IT ALL…

UVA wins the rest. We win the rest. UNC wins the rest.
UNC is 3rd. We are tied with UVA. UVA WINS!

UVA Wins the rest. We win the rest. UNC gets beat by Duke….VERY PROBABLE.
Three way tie. UVA has 67% Win Record (against UNC & State). UNC has 50% Win Record (against UVA and State). UVA is 3rd. UNC is 4th…..we play on Thursday.

It will take ANOTHER loss by UVA ( FSU or MD) to knock them out. Highly UNLIKELY.

It will take TWO losses by UNC (Duke and MD) to knock them out. Highly UNLIKELY…

That is why I could NOT understand the comments about the BC win HELPING US…..it virtually eliminated us…..

BUT, that is what it is. NOW, maybe I am wrong….I certainly HOPE that I am, but had UVA won today, then our chances of playing on Thursday were greatly REDUCED…..now they are slim and ??

Comments…..and please…..tell me I am wrong and why….I would feel MUCH better.

BUT, it was a good win tonight.
