Going Pro (Third Update 10:30pm – Leslie, Brown and Warren Say They’re Undecided)

10:30pm Update: Joe Giglio says Brown, Warren still undecided on NBA future

Kim Banks, Brown’s mom, said she would be in Raleigh this week to talk to her son about his future. She also refuted the CBS report.

“I’ve seen the rumors,” Banks said. “I don’t know where they get that from. He hasn’t made a decision yet.”

Leslie, who almost left for the NBA last April, also seemed to deny the report on his Twitter account on Tuesday afternoon.

“Who said I was leaving,” Leslie tweeted.

Regarding Warren Giglio Added:

“If he’s a first-round pick, I think it would be a good decision,” said Warren, a former Wolfpack player who was an eighth-round pick of the Chicago Bulls in 1979.

But Warren also said he felt his son could be a lottery pick next year after a big sophomore season as the centerpiece of N.C. State’s offense.

“It’s too early to tell,” Warren said. “I want to see what he wants to do. It’s up to him but he knows he can play at the next level.”

**Update** CJ Leslie tweets “Who said I was leaving?”

This confirms to me that no one outside of maybe Coach and the team knows what is going on 100% of the time.

Well that didn’t take long…

For anyone interested, Draft Express has Zo listed as the #29th pick, CJ projected as the #35th pick and Richard Howell projected as the #57th pick. I fully expect these guys to improve their draft status at the NBA camps/workouts before the draft b/c they are both freakishly talented. It is tough to say we’ll be better off when losing 2 5-star elite-level talent guys but next year will really test Gottfried’s coaching as we’ll probably be starting ZERO upperclassmen.

As a side note, I’m hoping Scott Wood gets a shot, literally.  His height and shooting skills might lure a team into giving him a shot and usually all Wood needs is a shot.

Listen to a lot of radio and scouts like him. He has shot up.

  2. Spike 03/26/2013 at 3:57 PM #

Haha. I love Leslie’s tweet. Now let’s see the same from Zo.

  3. BJD95 03/26/2013 at 4:06 PM #

My outsider’s view is that 99 percent of what’s “tweeted” is just to get attention. So I don’t take much of what a player says there seriously.

As long as we get Warren or Leslie back, I will have hope for an interesting year.

  4. partialqualifier 03/26/2013 at 4:21 PM #

I think all reasonable people figured Zo and CJL were leaving…altho, I really would like to see Leslie improve his D and bulk up a bit and come back for one more year. We will see…

I think even Gott prepared for this as best he could. The thing to watch is what happens to Purvis, Warren, and Lewis. With so many transfers and seemingly disgruntled player, transferring could be an option for all these guys. Gott is recruiting over Lewis like heck. The writing is on the wall that this kid isnt gonna be playing much. He may decide to move on. Purvis was obviously disappointed with how he was used…dont forget he was pre-season ROY and had very high expectations. He could decide to move on. And that leaves Warren…who had the famous retweet. If any of those guys bolt we are doomed and SERIOUS questions about our coach will have to asked.

Declaring for the NBA draft doesn’t mean staying in the NBA draft. They could withdraw their names. This is no surprise. They are getting an evaluation of where they would fall in the draft. Once they get that, then comes the decision time. THAT IS WHAT WE SHOULD ALL BE WATCHING FOR! And I would love to have one or both of them back for another year!

. When Brown or Leslie say it themselves publicly, I will believe it.Until then it’s just idiots in the media talking to hear themselves talk.

  7. gopack10 03/26/2013 at 5:01 PM #

Seriously, what is it with a select few of you and constantly harping and talking about the possible transfers of two, if not all three, of the freshman. There is no basis for that whatsoever. All three will have plenty of minutes come next season and none of them are ready for the NBA.

Why must some of you always talk doomsday scenarios without any basis for them. Purvis lost PT late in the year, so what? You think he doesn’t realize that this is a process and that it will be his and Warren’s team next season. Please let it go and let’s just focus on supporting our team instead of trying to tear it down with rumors and comments that are being thought up by people who know absolutely nothing.

^We have lots of “cutters” in our fan base. Read the boards. It’s bizarre but true. I’ve read rumors of every single scholarship player (that played this year) and coaches Lutz and Gott wanting to leave. Never seen a bunch of (presumably) men more hooked to drama in all my life. Somewhat fed by paranoia and inferiority which quite frankly is not totally the fan’s fault. I’m somewhat paranoid myself, but you have to look at this stuff as entertainment. Let who wants to show up and suit up for us next fall do that. Needless worry produces zilch.

    edited.

    ringo…does that include coach?

  10. fullmoon1 03/26/2013 at 6:13 PM #

Having been raised a state fan, at 39 years of age I have seen the doomsday scenarios come true too often. I have no factual information but a gut feeling that at least 1 player transfers. CJ coming back would be huge. He has improved each year and is a fighter. Sure he deserves some criticism but he would most definitely be an asset.

Desmond Lee is the real deal. 6’4″ two guard that can shoot and drive plus plays good D. He OV’s this weekend. If we are going to get him which I believe we will he will commit while on visit.

Certainly sounds like TJW is considering moving on…

I hope Cat stays out of trouble and I look forward to seeing Ralston Turner play.

Would love to have cj Leslie back. Hell, I would love to have all of them back… if all 3 go…my gosh it will be ugly.

If anyone is interested I’m turning pro in something other than sports…

Not getting Randle is ok, but that and losing Warren would be a disaster, hopefully he doesn’t Cedric Simmons us. (You hardly remember him right? Exactly)

  16. JeremyH 03/26/2013 at 7:47 PM #

Maybe Warren will only go in Leslie or Brown stays…heh.

  17. mak4dpak 03/26/2013 at 7:49 PM #

Leslie and Lo leaving is believeable, but Warren, I just don’t see that happening. Transfers? I don’t see that either. Guess will see. Seems I remember other rumors on here, like teams leaving the ACC, and that still hasn’t happened, other than Maryland, who had already made this choice, before I heard said rumor. Time will tell us all. For now I will wait and see, and hear the many rumors that seem to stir up.

  18. Wulfpack 03/26/2013 at 7:52 PM #

You never know what is going to happen to a team when it experiences chemistry issues like it did this year. It was bad, folks. I said it before but some of our guys really did not care for one another. I would just like to see a clean slate – no more old vs. new. It may cost us a few wins but in the end this is about building a program, and we took a step back this year. Time to move forward.

  19. TOBtime 03/26/2013 at 7:54 PM #

Why under the heavens would Tony Warren remotely push his son to the NBA? Next year TJ will be THE MAN and will have a very important part of that equation solved – A PG who absolutely is magic at getting guys the ball. Plus, Purvis will be improved offensively and able to take some pressure off. If Turner can shoot AT ALL resembling his former self there is even less D on TJ.

He ain’t top 10 and would be very, very foolish to leave with all his stars aligning.

  20. wolfpackdawg 03/26/2013 at 7:57 PM #

NOTHING is a disaster compared to Sid, Herb or Les. Get over it.

  21. vtpackfan 03/26/2013 at 8:02 PM #

Good luck to “Bucket(s)” Head if he’s out the door. He showed about as piss poor performance of buying into a program and respecting veteran players as possibly any possible one-and-done.

Strange thing about life. It can come back and haunt. What’s “Bucket(s) Head” going to have to face sooner or later in his chosen “profession”. Buying into a team/franchise atmosphere and working with and showing some respect for veteran players. But wait, the light will just switch on for for him I’m sure.

  22. choppack1 03/26/2013 at 8:11 PM #

Gee. Why would any player want to leave such a supportive environment?

  23. Wulfpack 03/26/2013 at 8:15 PM #

Warren could most definitely use another year. He won’t leave the floor and can dominate many games. I think he can be a VERY good player next year. If a couple of guys leave, I can see him wanting to come back. If they are here, not so sure. He was visibly upset on the court at times. Not picking sides, but it didn’t look good.

  24. choppack1 03/26/2013 at 8:35 PM #

The way the idiots in the NBA evaluate talent I cannot blame any first rounder who leaves early. The more they see your game, the farther down the draft board you fall. Both cj and McAdoo and probably zo lost a lot by not leaving last year vs. This year.

  25. ringo 03/26/2013 at 8:38 PM #

Come on. If it was that bad why did anybody have any optimism we would do anything at all in the post season. In fact, why were they mad we lost if there was that much discord. This all sounds like revisionist history. There was nothing that looked remotely as bad as that QB and center for Alabama during their championship game, and they were best friends. Have some of you never been on a team of any sort? Do you not have brothers, sisters, parents, friends? We’re all human and have moments, dear heavens.

Agree chop, can’t figure the NBA out at all. It sounds like a game of potential, which means lots of guys get discarded. Kind of bad for the players. You’d think the union would see that.
