FSU game day thread

Looking to make it three in a row. We are playing FSU tonight at 7. The Pack is favored by 8.
I think we finally have a good game and win by 12+.

It appears Buckets is coming out of his slump so if we can just get Purvis back to playing well we could be hitting on a cylinders going into tournament time. Rodney’s problems are all in his head so hopefully the coaching staff can help him work through this.

Since I am probably the only one here who has papers from both universities (grad school @ FSU….. don’t anyone misunderstand… NC State has always been first in my heart) it might appropriate that I go first here….

. my gut feeling is that …. tonight’s game won’t be too much different from those since Virginia… as we continue to improve on the three things that are currently holding us back: (not in any order).

    Who plays for us tonight:

    1. CALVIN or cj ??
    2. Purvis and Warren or Nervous and Cuz ???

    and

    3. Lo and Tyler continue to learn how to play well with both on the court at the same time.

It’s guaranteed someone in Garnet and Gold will have a good night….

Maybe we win by 7 — 11 and avoid the nailbitter and the tip-in with less than one second… No blowout in the tealeaves….
If so… then we can say the positive trend of being ready for tournament time is continuing….

Will we have the same officiating crew tonight that we had for last season’s FSU game here?

Warren with the game winner tonight at the 0:03 mark. Another blowout.

I’m feelin another squeaker. Hope not, just feel it.

It’s time to break out of this funk and get things rolling before heading west this weekend.

    I hope.

FSU seems completely different since Dull Keys and the 30 YO former Vet big man moved on. I’m sure they can still play the mud wrestling tug-of-war basketball the Hamilton coaches, but it seems watered down.

I think the two keys are:

    1) Can Woo dial in. Seriously, the guy is totally capable of a 7+ three point night and this night is as good ad any.
    2) RH health. He played like 41 minutes on a sore ankle on Sat- we need 13+ rebounds from Rich even to be in it at near the end. No option 2 and the box score item “team rebound” has been crossed out.

This comment does specifically relate to tonights game, however, I watched some old clips from the Corchiani days and I couldn’t help but feel like Corch/Monroe is the throwback version of WBS/Zo. Sadly, I am too young to remember the old days, but for some of you guys that have been around the block, is this accurate at all? I know all players have their own personality of how they play, but could someone agree or disagree with me?

  8. Wufpacker 02/19/2013 at 9:39 PM #

^ Yes and no. Zo doesn’t have Monroe’s shot per se, but he’s definitely a scorer like Monroe otherwise.

I definitely agree that they can give us the same type of dynamic in any case.

Rodney Monroe was the backup PG to Fire, at least one or two years. He had better handle than advertised. But he wasn’t much like Zo in style of play. Ice was the perfect blend of shooter and scorer. Closest thing I’ve seen to him since was Wake’s Randolph Childress.

I dunno if I really want a blowout before we play the Holes.

^ Agreed. Would like a “comfortable” win for sake of confidence, but not a blowout to avoid complacency.

Although I’d hope that we’re past being able to feel complacent at this point, you know how that goes sometimes.

    Ugh
Whit tries but he is not a good announcer

  12. Rick 02/19/2013 at 10:04 PM #

    Buckets with the hustle

  13. Rick 02/19/2013 at 10:05 PM #

    2 calls for the Pack.
    Good start.

  14. Wufpacker 02/19/2013 at 10:05 PM #

I had the sound off until just now…Warren with the start over Purvis?

  15. Rick 02/19/2013 at 10:06 PM #

    that is killer
good D and they get a lucky shot

  16. BJD95 02/19/2013 at 10:07 PM #

Nice, crisp ball movement. A very good sign.

  17. Rick 02/19/2013 at 10:07 PM #

We need Purvis to get his mojo back. Maybe benching him will be good for him.

BTW FSU has 3 7ft+ players

  18. Rick 02/19/2013 at 10:08 PM #

Great job by Calvin to break into the passing zone

  19. eas 02/19/2013 at 10:09 PM #

Lets hope Calvin figures out how to pass before the end of the game.

  20. Rick 02/19/2013 at 10:09 PM #

That was a good call on the pick but they need to be consistent with it

  21. Rick 02/19/2013 at 10:10 PM #

BTW I saw more than 3 illegal picks last time down the court on Buckets

  22. Rick 02/19/2013 at 10:11 PM #

    Woo wants his D

  23. Wufpacker 02/19/2013 at 10:11 PM #

Howell better be careful. Surprised he didn’t get T’d for that little pull up action.

  24. Rick 02/19/2013 at 10:11 PM #

I love both our energy and our execution (offense and defense) so far

  25. Texpack 02/19/2013 at 10:12 PM #

Where in the Hell did this defense come from?
