Social media blunder

TJ Warren retweeted Thomas DaThey’s tweet about Gottfried. I have no idea what was his motivation. Was he highlighting how childish TDT is acting or was he agreeing with it. Either way he should not have done it and the NCSU administration needs to get in front of this ASAP. I hope this is not an indication of a problem within the team.

And now it has gone viral. When will kids learn?

One can only hope he was highlighting that idiots ignorant opinion. Motivation?

Tyler Lewis’ dad tweeted back at him
@de_thaeyGOPACK There is no need for these comments. Doesn’t accomplish anything for the team. All teams have ups & downs during the season

    and his response was
    Thomas De Thaey ‏@de_thaeyGOPACK
@Coach_Rick57 I have the right to tweet or say whatever I feel like saying! I’ve been taking a lot the time that I was there..

TDT thinks Gott’s a bad coach because he didn’t get PT while he was here. And he’s definitely got a lot of time to think about that now that he’s in bball oblivion.

Accusations are one thing, but all the proof I see is contrary to TDT’s thoughts. The development of players like Brown, Leslie and Howell (!!!) are a direct result of the coaching they’ve received under Gott.

Don’t get me wrong, I like Gottfried and this staff. But based on some of the things I see on the court lately… I cannot completely disagree with his assessment. Wrong to put it out there like that, but proof is in the pudding. No reason to lose/have close games like the team has, consistently against opponents like Clemson, Maryland and Wake Forest.

^JasonP coaching and in game coaching are two different things.

Coach – this is your welcome to the Wolfpack nation. The disfunctional, lunatic fringe, that is your fan base.
We love you, but keep in mind, this will seem like a good week if you lose Saturday. Next week could get ugly.

I see TDT’s tweets, on his page, which by the way, is decked out in red with pictures of him in a State uniform. TJ Warren must have already deleted his retweet, because the last thing I see on his page was about 12 hours ago, and TDT’s original tweet was about 2 hours ago. Maybe the retweet was a mistake, maybe TJ meant to send a reply to TDT, but instead hit the wrong button. At least that is what I am hoping.

I couldn’t get any uglier. I personally unfollowed TDT on twitter. I don’t care to hear his brand of negativity, if for no other reason than the fact he obviously lied about his reasons for departing. It’s shame his negative attitude is still poisoning the well. Regardless of a players opinion on a coach, it should be handled in the locker room. This could have an immediate grave impact on recruiting. If a player doesn’t vent about a coach until after a loss it seems pretty petty and child like. Vandy had some positive tweets in the aftermath and so did purvis. Hopefully this serves as wake up call and bonds them together before Saturday.

What good has ever come from Twitter? Seems like it’s just a forum for terse sniping.

There’s obviously some serious attitude problems with the team.

“Don’t get me wrong, I like Gottfried and this staff. But based on some of the things I see on the court lately… I cannot completely disagree with his assessment.”

It is way too early to say this. You do not turn around a team like Gott did last year and get to the s16 without being as least a decent coach.

The way this fan base has turned on the coach is both sad and frightening.

It seems as if Warren took it down following the outcry. I don’t know how you re-treet that and not think about the consequences. Not smart.

Ban twitter, NCSU. Nothing goods comes of it.

On an unrelated note, the edit post feature doesn’t seem to be working via my I phone. I know parts of the site are being worked on and it’s not a big deal, I just wanted to pass that along in case it’s a concern.

I’m firmly in Gott’s camp. What I am seeing (or not seeing) on the floor is not on him. These kids have the talent but they are playing like crap. No defense, either.

  13. Pack1998 01/23/2013 at 11:26 AM #

110% behind Gottfried – he is an awesome coach.

We lost 2 games by 3 points — we shot terrible FTs and missed close shots in both.

This coach, and staff, is awesome.

    I remember pre-Gott . . . wait, don’t need to go there.

    Peak for March.

  14. redredred 01/23/2013 at 11:28 AM #

    Rick,
Didn’t know that questioning some of the coaching equaled turning on the coaches. I thought the first sentence of my post should have shown my intent. If it didn’t… let me be clear. I like this coaching staff and am in no way ready to turn on them.

  15. packof81 01/23/2013 at 11:30 AM #

“Ban twitter, NCSU. Nothing goods comes of it.”

    Amen. It’s a sniper forum.

“These kids have the talent but they are playing like crap.”

    They are underachieving.

Absolutely no reason to waver in support of Gott, his coaching ability and the program he’s building here. None. Much less due to tweets from a disgruntled scrub.

Quick observations of X’s and O’s improvement: The actual ability to execute out of bounds plays, the ability to break a full court press, and the ability to score. These are all foreign to Wolfpack teams of the last 2 decades.

Everyone take a deep breath. We all know (at least those of us who did not drink the kool-aid), that our team was overrated which led to unrealistic expectations. Lower your expectations and understand that there is still a lot of BB remaining to be played. Next game on Saturday is huge. I for one am going to enjoy the moment. On Saturday the nation (via ESPN’s Game Day) visits west Raleigh – I refuse to let the lunatic fringe dampen my day. I will be there supporting my team AND my coach. Go Pack! Beat the Heels!

    Of note:

Nearly the same team 2 years ago finished last in the ACC.

    Of note:

Each loss in the ACC the opposing team rushed the court. Just humorous.

  19. Wulfpack 01/23/2013 at 11:42 AM #

Somebody needs to tell the team no championship was won following the big Duke win. We have not been good since that game. Huge game Saturday night. Things could spiral out of control with a loss.

  20. bill.onthebeach 01/23/2013 at 11:47 AM #

well.. looks like we’ll just have to add Mr. DeTheay to the list of ‘crybabies’ who just couldn’t cut it on “Tobacco Road” …

    of more recent note…
    LD2
    RH
    Wear bros
    JM
    Gbinije

I am sure that I left somebody out….
and I’m also sure that somebody else will be added to the list sooner or later……

  21. randygupton 01/23/2013 at 11:48 AM #

Anyone bother to check out de Thaey’s wife … or girlfriend … or whatever’s Twitter page?

    https://twitter.com/megggggcampbell

I want to know what the real story is behind this thing. I always was scratching my head about his departure. Something just seemed amiss.

And … last night … I kept thinking ‘God, we need de Thaey.”

We’re thin. Not that it has anything to do with this Twitter issue. Just sayin’ there’s something more here.

  22. Thinkpack17 01/23/2013 at 12:00 PM #

God I would love to have Josh Davis on this team.

Notable>>> except for the freshman center with the career double-double that killed us inside <<< Notable

Regarding the ill-conceived retweet, I hope there’s a logical explanation. Can’t imagine that TJ is unhappy with where his is in his development, so hopeful on that front.

Regarding the original tweet from TDT, he presumably accused Gott of being a “terrible coach”. In no way do I agree with that “assessment”.

There are a few very high level teams this year – we recently beat one of them in a memorable home game. If you expectation was that we would have zero WTF moments this year, then you either bought into the idiotic MSM over-hype at the beginning of the year despite warning after warning on this blog to the contrary, or you’re just not paying attention.

This team has known issues – primarily depth, FT shooting and turnovers. Lack of depth means that in games where the whistles are blowing non-stop we are at a disadvantage. To my eye, Gottfried is juggling his assets well, trying (as all good managers do) to maximize the productivity given his resource constraints.

I LOVE what Gottfried has done for our program. I’m solidly behind this team and this staff. No matter how many MSM trolls want to make it into something it isn’t, I’m just not biting. The team is 15-4, well on track for my expectations for this year.
