O’Brien plays for overtime, risks losing his job

I’m not even going to complain about the two different holding calls on the return that would’ve negated the run.

We deserve to lose when we called such an AWFUL game after getting up ten points in the second half.

Another big thank you to Fowler for adding salt to the wounds.

I honestly think that Yow can force his hand even with the two year extension. We all know that he sticks by his coaches no matter what.

I think that she tells him that he can come back next year with the big “IF”; if he fires his OC and DC.

No way that he will do that so he retires.

To me, this game wasn’t on the OC or DC. It was on whoever decided to play for overtime (with 3 running plays in a row), thus leaving time on the clock for a punt (and another possession for UNC). I assume that was TOB that made that decision. If so, it is all on him. The only time I would agree with playing not to lose (as he did), was if there were only 30-40 seconds left, and we could be assured we didn’t have to punt, and could just take a knee.

Good call WP4ever. What ever it takes – DY needs to do it. I’m sure she’s use to very hardball negotiations coming from MD. However she has to do it, I for one want it done. I’m sure she’ll handle it with the class that he and his assistants deserve. I would like nothing better than for TOB announce his retirement at the end of this season.

wolfpack4ever: I can’t say I agree with you at all.

If I were TOB and Yow tried this on me, I’d tell her to fire me. Not only would she have to buy me out, but she’d also have to do the same for the assistants (who I believe have multi-year deals) she’s trying to use as leverage.

I think Adventuroo is correct. Fowler @#()$*@#$ us with that extension, like he did so many times. As a result, I think that we’ll have TOB for a few more years.

    @ wolfpack4ever:

you are so right. I bet that will happen — and that gives me hope. Ryebread, I assume we can afford to buy out an assistant coach’s contract (if they even go beyond this year). We all know TOB will stick with them and retire. I don’t see him going into his final year with a new staff; he’s too proud/stubborn. She’ll force him out by forcing out his assistant(s). A New Hope.

Ed89- with all due respect, but this game was lost by the entire coaching staff during different times of the game. They all screwed the pooch…..

TOB just made sure to put his seal on it at the end.

I pray that DY can pull a rabbit out her hat and get this shit done because I could not imagine waiting to 2014.

Did anyone notice at the end of the game the camera for a spilt second showed a lady I believe to be crying in the stands wearing red. I was wondering if that was TOB’s wife or just some fan that felt the way I did? Actually I was speaking in tongues after that punt.

I have not read everyone’s comments on here but I can tell you this, if our boys go 8-4 or better yet 9-3 TOB will not lose his job. If he does I will tell you that will be one of the first mistakes Dr. Yow has made as AD at STATE! You cannot fire a coach that runs a clean program(especially right now), finishes the season with a winning record, and has led his teams to 3 consecutive bowl games. I can tell you firing a coach after what I mentioned above will not look good to any other coach we would have a shot at hiring. I will be the first to tell you that I was just as disappointed with the play calling the last few mins of the unx game as the rest of you but that one loss will not be the end of TOB as many are speculating. So lets get out there this Saturday and cheer our boys on to a victory over the wahoos of UVA so we can be on our way to another postseason trip somewhere!

I watched the game last night on tape. I don’t see how you can make the argument we played for OT. On the 2nd to last series, after the Thornton run, we threw three straight passes, including a long one to Underwood. On the last series with 1:30 left on 1st down, Glennon dropped back to pass, but was sacked. It was then 2 & 17 well back in our end (about 20-25 yd line). We clearly were not initially playing for OT, but with the sack, they coaches thought better of it and ran the ball instead–smartly in my view. If Glennon threw an INT there, everyone would be saying how dumb TOB was to throw it. Monday morning QB.

I thought the teams were pretty evenly matched. Glennon clearly the best QB and Bernard clearly the best back. UNC better OL, State the better DL, etc.

How more people aren’t putting this on the players with 8 dropped passes & a dropped pick-6 is beyond me. Glennon was on fire, but he might have had another 100 yards passing without those drops. CJ Wilson played well (great takeaway 2nd half) but he had a gift wrapped pick-6 and didn’t execute. That is on the players.

Bottom line: we are a top half ACC team, but we aren’t talented enough to make mistakes like that and still beat a good team. We didn’t and lost.
