NC State unveils new basketball uniforms

The Twittersphere was active this afternoon as Coach Gottfried and some of his players posted pictures of NC State’s new men’s basketball uniforms. The good news is that the uniforms are going to be far more widely accepted than the infamous 2009-2010 attempt at a redesign that was unpopular to the extent of never being worn in action.

    Why are they mesh? It looks hideous.

    I have to say, I completely disagree. I think these are pretty sweet. The block S is clever, and the wolf picture in the neck is a neat touch.

    The top looks like a sports bra, or 2 different uniforms sewn together. Also the swoosh on the pants looks like a JV girls team, and the NC in the S looks cluttered.

    As long as they’re throwing “Ws” on the board, they’ll look good in Anything to me… I do like that block S and the Wolf applique!

    I like ’em. Adidas doesn’t necessarily suck. (I mean look at what Nike did with the NFL jerseys – they’re see through. ). I can’t wait to see them in action. It should be a good looking team on the court this year. GO PACK!

    I think the block S as the first letter in STATE is very sharp. Would also like to see what the RED version looks like. GO STATE and go to hell unc-cheat.

    Thought the same thing when I first looked at these – looks like a sports bra. Go back to last years.

    It looks like they sewed a corset and sports bra together. I showed this to my wife, who is into fashion design and she was stunned. She says this is wrong on so many levels…that it is just so bad.

    The sweetheart line (where the two fabrics join) is a classic technique used to make clothes look more feminine.She called this embarrassing and asked if this was a joke. I told her it wasn’t. She equivocated this to sewing a thong onto the outside of the shorts and said that would be no less embarrassing.

    First thing I saw/thought was BRA. Not sure what that means. WTF….just beat the crap outta er’body and I’m cool wid whateva ya wear fellas!

    It really looks like a homemade attempt at putting a uniform together. It really does look bad on what could have been a neat clean look.

    I am horrified at how our uniforms have been in football, basketball, and minor sports. We have no identity. Red on red or red on white. Nothing unique, no flair or panache.

    This is too important to leave to dumb ass folks that don’t want to build a brand identity for the wolfpack.

    We have the worst looking unis in the conference in football and now the poorest attempt to put something on the BB court.

    I like the “STATE” across the front. Otherwise, I don’t particularly care for them. But what I really care about is what the players do when wearing them!

    @bluelena – I find it really interesting that you, your wife and many others here have and immediate negative reaction to the uniform design, and in the case of your wife, also be able to verbalize what the problem is. As a designer and writer, I learned long ago to invite scrutiny from anyone and anyone, and I was especially interested in hearing from people who were not familiar with my projects. First impressions are key. In light of that, I can only wonder who vetted the design.

    And not only this version, but all the uniforms I’ve seen that are much worse and just defy explanation.

    I’m old school. I’d like to see something similar to the circa 1983 jersey brought back. Put the block S on the shorts but the jersey should boldy say NC State. No manufacturers logo, clever embroidery or mesh stuff just a classic look.

    Bra….every time I look at it the first impression is bra, then bra and followed by bra. Not trying to be negative because 90% of the uniform looks real good too me. The remaining 10% (or bra portion) literally looks like someone ran out of material and said “hey do we still the uniforms tops from the mid 90’s because we could just sew that on the top portion”. I like the Wolf etc. and a new look is cool. However the bra portion is terrible! It even has round/curved edges like a bra. Bra, Bra, Bra, Bra and Bra. They were actually close to getting it right. Hey Todd Fuller is missing the top portion of his uniform today…….

    At first glance it does read Tate because the block S is hard to read. Just looks like some blob next to the other letters and the more I look at it , I have to agree the top part is even worse.
